Iran: Revolt Over Fixed Election
Iran’s clerical regime is facing open revolt as riot police clash with huge crowds accusing them of fixing the vote that returned Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to power.
The capital, Tehran, has seen its most violent street disturbances for a decade as demonstrators protested over Ahmadinejad’s surprise defeat of Mir-Hossein Mousavi, the reformist challenger.
Meanwhile, in the United States, Americans do nothing as “Chicago-style politics” move to the national stage. We Americans have far too important things to worry about: Starbucks Coffee, Coldstone Ice Cream, eating at the best restaurants, the most trendy fashions, the hottest cars – all the truly meaningful things in life. Things like the loss of individula freedom, skyrocketing national debt, ACORN’s voter fraud, media dishonesty and the movement toward socialism don’t seem to concern many Americans.
I’ve added some video. You guys are right; it does look better than Detroit.
Meanwhile in Pakistan, a Christian was beaten to death for drinking coffee at a “Muslims-only” coffee stall. “Islam has a proud tradition of tolerance.” – President Obama.

Iran is starting to look like Detroit. Except for the goofy burkas, I’d be right at home.

[1]
Looks like Iran’s ‘Tianamen Square ‘ moment.
The crackdown by the mullahs will be harsh and brutal beyond measure.
I hope my skepticism is unwarranted.
You can be sure they will be getting no help from the marxist in their desperate quest for freedom.
[2]
Re. Detroit, bc, I don’t know. Those buildings in the picture aren’t boarded up and their windows are still intact.
Tehran’s still got nothing on Detroit.
[3]
Talking of Detroit. I have noticed over the last 2 weeks the ads from GM are starting to ring with a ‘begging, we were once great, don’t you want one’ tone.
[4]
Exciting developments in Iran. If Reagan or even Bush were in the White House, they would be making a speech that every person has a right to live in freedom. Instead, we have a clown who runs around talking about how every culture is equal. If that isn’t an argument against progress, I don’t know what is. I mean if every culture is equal why was the war against the Southern antebellum culture justified?!
[5]
It hasn’t worked before. Chevrolet introduced the new Silverado in 2007. It was a great product and the F-150 and Ram were both long in the tooth. Instead of promoting the new Silverado’s features and benefits, Chevrolet commercials were all nostelgia – our country, our truck with the John Melencamp song. And they played it over and over to the same audience on Fox NFL Sunday and MLB telecasts.
Silverado never took off and now Ford and Dodge pickups are new.
GM’s head of sales and marketing – Mark LaNeve – is as dumb as a rock.
[6]
North Korea is making lots of noise too. I think many of the world’s despots smell weakness.
[7]
This is courage
[8]
Economically, Geo. Bush let a lot of things slide. But, internationally, his presence in the WH seem to temper the zeal of despots.
[9]
Janzam -
If you remember, in the days of the Shah, Iranian women were the most liberated in the Muslim world. For some reason, I don’t appreciate Islamic tolerance as much as out last two Presidents.
[10]
A rant by Frank Rich, which seems a little over the top to me, giving Obama the benefit-of-the-doubt, even when it comes to deficits!
The Obama haters’ silence enablers

It’s amazing how fast and far culture can errode under despotic governments — like the Iranian woman’s rights.
But, just look at what is happening here — and, quickly too!
[12]
Janzam -
You’re right. In the late 1970’s Iranian women went from bikinis to burksa virtually overnight. I am just glad that we have a President who is willing to fight for Islamic womens rights so that men can force them to wear traditional Islamic garb.
[13]
his presence in the WH seem to temper the zeal of despots.
Because they knew that Bush didn’t care about world opinion.
[14]
bcb- I HATED those “This is our country” commercials. Couldn’t ever get that song out of my head.
From the east coast, to the west coast
down the dixie highway, back home,
this is ourrrrrrrrrrr country!
[15]
The irony of your comment, bc3b, is low-key, but comes through loud and clear.
Most Americans are so used to their freedoms that they just don’t realize how rapidly they can evaporate, under the steamroller of government intrusions.
I just looked at the picture of that Iranian woman, fist raised, in a stand-off with Iranian guards, and shuddered.
[16]
Where was Frank Rich when the crazies on the Left called Bush Hitler? Spare me Frank.
I do have to say that I had to stop listening to Beck. Too apocalyptic.
[17]
The left don’t seem to have “hearing” in stereo! They are only monaural, equipped to pick up the single tone of grivances of their own.
[18]
Chekote, she is an abyssinian, likes to be on my shoulders….one of their traits if you let them.
I agree about Beck, even when he is on track he is too goofy sounding to be impressiive.
[19]
What I dont understand about this election in Iran is that, ultimately, the Mullahs call the shots, what am I missing? Why the riots?
[20]
Those aren’t riots. They are tea parties.
[21]
Mullet — Nice analogy!
[22]
‘Why the riots?’
I’m just guessing here, but perhaps the people hate the mullahs.
[23]
Chekote, she is an abyssinian
I thought so. Great cats. What’s her name?

Coming to a neighborhood near you starting June 20. My primary client is giving me a week’s use of his summer place at Stone Harbor, NJ.
Know anything about Stone Harbor? I guess it’s way south in Jersey.
Not everyone vacations in Jersey … just people from Detroit.
[25]
Yahoo – just for you.
The Hot for Words chick on how the Orlando Magic got its name.

[26]
The Jersey Shore is one of the best places on earth, if I can say so myself. It is south, in Cape May County. I personally have never been there, but have driven through it many times on the way to Wildwood and Cape May. If you can, make sure you walk the Wildwood Boardwalk while you’re down there.
[27]
It’s about 45 minutes to an hour away from me.

I think 0bama, NJ and MI probably all smell tax revenue for that little excursion.
[29]
Never made it to Cape May while living in New York.
[30]
What will come of their riots? A chance to have another vote with strict legitimacy? I doubt it. The hammer will swing down on them, I’m afraid. I think they suspect the same thing I do, which is Amanutjob is going to be far worse this time around and any hope of revolution will die in the next few years.
[31]
I know Netanyahu already made his speech (and I am looking for video of it because after reading a partial transcript, it is very important) but here is an article I thought was a good prelude: link
[32]
Hot Air had an interesting take on this:
Tie that to Bibi’s speech today and you have a recipe for disaster.
[33]
American Pravda has a story up now. Still waiting for a full video though.
[34]
Chekote — Scarlett.
Good points JustMary, this will be interesting. Thanks God we have the Best and Brightest looking after us.
[35]
Perfect name Bruce! It really fits her. You can tell from the photo.
[36]
Yeah, Phineas, I think you are right that they hate the Mullahs.
Come to think of it I am starting to hate our Mullah, er Chairman or whatever he is. Hate is too strong a word. I just wish he would go away and take all his disciples with him.
[37]
Andrew Sullivan has been doing a great job following the events in Iran. http://www.andrewsullivan.com
[38]
Yeah, like Scarlett O’Hara it fits her, she has me wrapped around her little dewclaws….of course so do all my other pets. Do you have pets, Chekote? I mean other than RightWingYahoo of course.
[39]
A dog and a horse. I would have more by my hubbie doesn’t. So we compromised at this number.
[40]
Hillary has to be the most ineffective SoS in modern history. How many times are we going to say to NK “you are being provatice”. I need a break. Getting disgusted again with the American people for electing Obama. Later guys.
[41]
Where is outrage from the left about this, not to mention the “torture” that goes on in North Korean prisons? The silence is deafening as usual.
“Getting disgusted again with the American people for electing Obama.”
—
What do you mean again, are you saying your disgust ever faded?
Sheep to the slaughter.
Hillary and China’s comments on NK so hilarious and expected.
I see the muzzle on Jimmah broke.
nytimes actually reports on Obama saying one thing while those running the defense department saying the opposite.
[42]
I’ve added some video. It is nicer than Detroit.

I like Pence a lot. He needs more exposure, though and it’s tough to get that in the House. Can anyone name the last major party Presidential nominee from the House (excluding Jerry Ford)? Ford becoming President was a fluke.

Tiananmen Square, indeed.
[47]
Frank Rich– king of the straw man.
“What is this fury about? In his scant 145 days in office, the new president has not remotely matched the Bush record in deficit creation.”
Umm… did you bother to look at the budget or the projections over 8 years, or the reality of the deficit and debt over a time comparable to Bush? Yes he’s only been in office 145 days, that’s the reason, you answered your own question.
“Nor has he repealed the right to bear arms or exacerbated the wars he inherited.”
Who is criticizing him for exacerbating wars? Nobody. Who is criticizing him for his apology tour and making us weaker? Everyone. Straw man.
“He has tried more than his predecessor ever did to reach across the aisle.”
Evidence? Thought so.
“But none of that seems to matter. A sizable minority of Americans is irrationally fearful of the fast-moving generational, cultural and racial turnover Obama embodies — indeed, of the 21st century itself.”
Generational? Evidence? None? Thought so.
Cultural? What cultural turnover are you talking about? Does Obama hate opera?
Racial? How exactly does he embody racial “turnover”? The minority he represents is not significantly growing.
“That minority is now getting angrier in inverse relationship to his popularity with the vast majority of the country.”
Are you referring to his steadily dropping approval ratings, now barely above 50% and sinking?
“Change can be frightening and traumatic, especially if it’s not change you can believe in.”
Patronizing ass. Are you saying we fear change? I can name a few “changes” that you would consider frightening and traumatic.
We don’t want to see core American ideals that have lasted more than 200 years discarded. That’s not generational, cultural, or racial. That’s caring about the heart and soul of America and its founding principles.
Moron.
[48]
just got back in town…hadn’t watched the news at all while up in Galt’s Gulch.
Interesting, but unless our OWN “Dear Leader” expresses support, then ImmaNutJob will simply tighten the screws even more.
Still…interesting, but too soon to feel hopeful for the Iranian people.
[49]
hmmm…just went around the net looking for stories on this. It’s one thing if ImmaNutJob stole a CLOSE election. If he stole a landslide the OTHER way, then too many people will know about it.
And now the Iranian Obama is saying he “can’t guarantee Mousavi’s safety”. uh oh…I sure hope Mousavi’s medical plan is paid up, ’cause it looks like he’s gonna start having accidents REAL soon!
Obama appears to be taking this EXTREMELY seriously…he spent the day golfing! I’ll sleep well tonight knowing our Dear Leader’s steady hand is at the helm!
[50]
My theory for the muted reaction by the White House and the MSM to the events in Iran is that they just hate they idea that – by removing Saddam and installing a democracy in Iraq – the desire for freedom is spreading in the region. They just hate the idea that Bush was right about anything.
[51]
JustRand
Did you say golfing?
Obogey
[52]
excellent vid, chekote!!
thx!! I loved the flying cell-phone…until I saw the “that wasn’t like a, uh, whiff…ya know…it was just a practice swing at a practice golf ball!” I loved THAT more!!
[53]
ok…OUTRAGE dosen’t voer this…
CBS “News” had THIS headline up (hattip Gateway Pundit):
“Meet Iran’s George W. Bush.”
http://gatewaypundit.blogspot.com/2009/06/outrage-cbs-meet-irans-george-w-bush.html
[54]
Thanks Chekote….wouldnt you love to see that comparison of golf swings on National TV….shouldnt the Rs run that comp and say ‘do you really feel safer now?’
[55]
Commentary — The bright side of Ahamdinejad’s “win.”
[56]
SOS from Tehran
[57]
I pray that Obama does what that SOS entreats him to do…but I have no faith that he will. Obama LIKES dictators.
[58]
JustRand
The last thing Obama, the MSM wants is that Bush and the neocons were right about spreading freedom in the middle by invading Iraq. That every person yearns for freedom. Remember all cultures are the same. So Iranians should be perfectly happy living in oppression.
[59]
I’m sure the Iranians protesting and soon to be crushed are sure not to hold a grudge that the u.s. president would not even support them rhetorically.
