There are metro areas where the unemployment figures are probably double the 16%. The MSA’s below are unaltered results. Apply bls’s magic formula and you get the idea. —
Monroe, MI Metropolitan Statistical Area 16.2
Modesto, CA Metropolitan Statistical Area 16.3
Flint, MI Metropolitan Statistical Area 16.5
Merced, CA Metropolitan Statistical Area 17.3
Elkhart-Goshen, IN Metropolitan Statistical Area 17.5

I am somewhat surprised by Monroe, MI. It’s about 80 miles south of Detroit and its major industries are La-Z-Boy and Monroe automotive.
I would think replacement parts sales would be gangbusters, but I guess Monroe also is a new car OEM.
Elkhart-Goshen is RV-boat related. Kokomo is auto-related. Lots of California metros.

I wouldn’t mind seeing a side by side with the great depression and today.

Justmary,
There’s no real comparison to the Great Depression…yet!
But there will be SOON if Barak gets his way! Our economy could still recover with good management. Our economy could still recover with simple NEGLECT!
Our economy CANNOT recover with the mismanagment and deliberate sabotage currently underway!
