Cornyn Gets “Barbecued” at Austin Tea Party
2009 July 5
The first 15-30 seconds gives a flavor. People are starting to stand up to the GOP establishment.
The first 15-30 seconds gives a flavor. People are starting to stand up to the GOP establishment.
[1]
“Big John”’s people are passing them off as Alex Jones types…. Cornyn really thought the crowd beneath him, no doubt, and reeled off his small government credentials that he never stands up for in DC.
Another plutocrat deigning to address the mutants. Same stuff we get from the Scum-o-crats.
Yawn.
[2]
After a speaker starts you really should let an invited scheduled speaker finish their remarks, that or just grab the pitchforks and go to town.
[3]
I love the way Cornyn used the military to shield himself from the boos. Pathetic.
[4]
LH
People are sick and tired of these windbags who talk fiscal discipline, free enterprise and then support bailouts.
[5]
And expansions of entitlements.
And amnesty.
And huge deficits.
[6]
Mixed reaction from me.
1) Stupid of any Pol to go to one of these events whether invited or not. You will get the reaction he got. Were it me, I would set up a booth away from the speaker area and let people come by and say their piece one on one. I might get a s#$% but I figure I deserve it and I do have fulfill ‘redress of grievances’.
2) Very bad of the hecklers. Let the guy have his say. Then throw the tomatoes.
[7]
LH?
“People are sick and tired of these windbags who talk fiscal discipline, free enterprise and then support bailouts.”

Gee really you know I couldn’t tell that, thanks for pointing that out.
They should be mad at the sponsors for the invite then, boo before and after, interrupting during remarks is just rude, tea parties should not be trying to replicate *all of code-pink’s tactics.
[8]
interrupting during remarks is just rude,
I couldn’t care less if people are rude to politicians who screwed us over. They deserve it.
[9]
Being a U.S. Senator is the ultimate gig. You do what you want, appease your buddies for 4-1/2 years and then it’s “get religion” in time for the primaries.
I have read a number of articles recently about the Beltway and the effect it has on members of congress, other federal employees and columnists. They overestimate their own importance, look down on the rest of us and think no one else’s opinion counts. Elitism at its finest.
I guess Cornyn got confused and thought he was up for election in 2010.
[10]
Pols are people too. Screw them over at the ballot box. That’s the only place it counts anyway.
[11]
Well, I didn’t go to Tea Party because I completely disagreed with their plans of selling corporate sponsorship, spending money on fireworks. I don’t believe it was successful.
[12]
Gotta mow the lawn. Later!
[13]
I know you couldn’t, I mean why would you care if behavior such as that does more to undermine the efforts of the tea parties than aid them, I mean it doesn’t involve abortion or Palin so who could blame you for caring less.
“I completely disagreed with their plans of selling corporate sponsorship, spending money on fireworks. ”
—
Yeah I mean the money that it takes to pull off and run the events should just grow on magic tea leaves, I mean god for bid local businesses donate money or equipment to the effort, what a horrible idea.
[14]
“Gotta mow the lawn.”

Sorry I screwed up. She might be back, I spiked the carb with water.
[16]
Girl mows the lawn?
[17]
RWY,
Don’t be too perplexed. My wife never had a lawn till she arrived here. She likes doing it. She’s bugging me to get a new edge trimmer for her to play with.
Go figure…
[18]
There are exceptions but I’m a fan of women who know how to keep their lawns trimmed.
[19]
KH– that’s what I thought she meant too…
I say more power to you girl, I like it when they keep a clean shop.
[20]
Nice try, however I remember she mows a lawn. Not THE lawn. Beside have you no pride? I can think those sort of thoughts with a better object of my affections. If you know what I mean.
[21]
you know this whole thread now takes on a new light. DrDog, your wife is begging you for an edge trimmer she can play with, hmmm….
three settings I bet. Low, medium, and who-needs-a-man.
[22]
My wife is welcome to mow the lawn anytime. And cook, clean, tend the garden. The only problem is she sometimes interrupts my nap time by doing all this work.
Life of Riley, indeed.

Guess I’ll stop reading Powerline. Used to be one of my favorites. Mirengoff was always the weak link. Here he snaps and the whole chain gives way. See below for the most intentionally obtuse post I have ever seen… are those the only 3 reasons, Paul… really?
______________________________________________________________
It’s not clear why Sarah Palin resigned her position as governor of Alaska, but it must have been for one of the following reasons: (1) there is a scandal that would have made her position as governor untenable, (2) she couldn’t take the heat that was coming her way, or (3) she concluded that it was in her best interests to do something other than fulfill the duties associated with the position the voters of Alaska entrusted to her.
In all three scenarios, Palin is unfit for high office, and certainly unfit to be the vice president or the president of the United States. Moreover, Palin’s resignation confirms how disappointingly reckless it was of John McCain to choose the then-untested governor to be his running-mate.
And what are we to make, in retrospect, of the euphoria that greeted McCain’s selection of Palin — a euphoria that made the Republican convention seem so strange to me that, for the first time in my life, I felt I had returned to the real world when I arrived back in Washington, DC? I imagine the euphora was founded on the desperation Republicans felt as we saw the presidency slipping away, having already lost control of Congress.
There’s no dishonor in this reaction; the dishonor belongs to those like Peggy Noonan who understood the situation but would only express it when they thought their microphone was off. But when we conservatives say that we need a restoration of conservative values, we should remember that one of those values — perhaps the most important — is sobriety.
[25]
back on Tea Party observations…
had a few interesting converstaions during and after the Tea Party parade in Grass Valley. Bottom line is this: I met lots of folks who are North of 30, 40 or 50 who had a very big thing in common…they have NEVER protested anything in their lives until the last year or so!
In fact most never attended any rally of ANY kind until Obama started destroying our country. These are folks who sat quietly through Carter and Clinton (and both the Bushs). They seethed from time to time, but never even THOUGHT about getting out in the street.
There are MILLIONS of people like me…and ya’ll. We worked and fought our whole lives for what we have, including FREEDOM! And we’re ready to FIGHT even harded to keep those things.
If I was the Left I’d wake up. But they will not.
[26]
Non-christians hate Palin… are blind with fury … only explanation that I can see…
[27]
OT: check this nano hummingbird link
[28]
just read an interesting theory on another site:
that Palin will jump to the TEA Party in August, and work to get TEA Party candidates on the 2010 ballot. Then, if a few of them get in Congress, run as the TEA Party candidate in 2012.
if nothing else it would serve to wake or kill the Republican Party…either would be preferable to their current state!
[29]
aureliusx I consider myself a non-christian at least in how I think you meant it, and I don’t hate Palin, don’t think I’m blinded with fury over her either, but enough about Palin for one week.
[30]
aureliusx -
I gave up on Powerline a few years back and you definitely are correct about the Jewish neocon factor. Many of Palin’s biggest critics have been Republican Jews. Frum, Brooks, etc., are the same way.
At the risk of sounding anti-Semetic, what Jewish Republican has ever panned out? Javitz, Rudman, Specter, even Coleman wasn’t that great. In his book, Rudman brags about how he convinced Bush41 that Souter would be a dependable conservative, knowing all the time he would be a solid liberal SC vote.
[31]
KnightHawk -
aureliusx was being politically correct. By non-Christian, he meant Jew. Hell, the GOP got less than 10% of the Muslim vote in 2008.
[32]
Non-christians hate Palin… are blind with fury … only explanation that I can see…
There is another explanation. She turned off a lot of former supporters by not hitting the books and learning policy after the election. Instead, she whined and whined and whined about the MSM. One good Liz Cheney like interview or speech on policy and she could have put a lot of the doubts people had about her away.
[33]
Cantor. Another huge disappointment.
[34]
I mean it doesn’t involve abortion or Palin so who could blame you for caring less.
That’s unfair and you should take it back.
[35]
KH
The reason they needed corporate sponsors was because they decided to have a big party at Southfork complete with $30K firework display. How is that any different than what politicians do in DC?
[36]
chekote, a fireworks display on the 4th of July is not exactly unheard of…eh?
[37]
JustRand,
The could have gone downtown and had free fireworks. Now they are in a financial hole. Completely mismanaged the situation.
[38]
Jewish people seem to be suspecious of Evangelical Christians, even though Evangelical Christians ofe=ten are Israel’s biggest supporters.
When asked by Blitzer what she thought of Obama’s Cairo speech, Palin said she didn’t think Obama went far enough in supporting Israel.
It was very disappointing that the GOP only got about 25% of the American Jewish vote considering that the Democrats ran the most anti-Israel candidate ever.
[39]
KH
People like Cornyn would not get booed if they didn’t try to prentend that they have nothing to do with the current financial mess and bailouts. Him getting up there and pretending that it is all Obama’s fault is insulting. As a matter of fact, until the GOP apologizes for their mismanagement and starts calling for a repeal of TARP, faith based intiatives, Medicare Part D, they will continue to be booed. I am sure those people would not boo Pence, Paul and others who voted against Bush’s domestic agenda.

I received the following form a Jewish friend of mine.
I also had the opportunity to hear Dennis Prager address a large audience, half Jewish half Christian and present his reasons why so many many Jews are totally uncomfortable with Christians who love and support Israel very often surpassing and outshining many American Jews. Here they are:
1. Christian Israel Lovers have conservative social views that we don’t share. So what? With the U.N. Security Counsel expending its energies on a country the size of New Jersey, while murder mayhem and meshugas run rampant in countries far larger and of greater importance, with the U.S. State Department showing continuous and consistent antipathy towards the Jewish State since its inception, with Ahmadinejad openly threatening to destroy Israel, Israel needs all the friends and especially supporters it can get. If you found yourself drowning in a lake and a Christian came to rescue you, would you ask him or even care about his social views?
2. Christians believe deep in their hearts that we Jews are destined for hell. So what? As a people, we have endured two thousand years being judged by our theology. Isn’t it unconscionable therefore for us to judge Christians by their theology? Doesn’t Judaism teach us to judge people according to their actions, not their beliefs?
3. Christians support Israel because it will hasten the Apocalypse. Dennis Prager once devoted two complete radio shows asking Christian supporters of Israel to call in and explain their reasons. Not one mentioned hastening the Apocalypse. Either the Christian world is expert at hiding the “real reason” or perhaps it is part of our Jewish neurosis. Equally important, it is Christian theology that teaches: you can’t hasten the coming of Jesus.
4. Christians have it on the agenda to convert Jews. If this is true, then the Yiddish pejorative “Goyish Kop” (meat head) is applicable. Christians will get more bang for their buck if they would go after the more than one billion Muslims, 350 million Buddhists, or 900 million Hindus. Why bother with a paltry 14 million Jews? More importantly, the odds are far greater for Jews abandoning Judaism if they are simply left to themselves. History has taught us any outside force seeking to convert Jews only causes Jews to cling all the more tenaciously to Judaism.
[41]
chekote, in re. the points above from your Jewish friend:
on point 1…Agreed!
on point 2…BULLSHIT!
on point 3…BULLSHIT!
on point 4…Marginal
Prager and your friend need to wise up. Of course, since the Democrats are actively working towards the destruction of Israel, it may already be too late!
[42]
JustRand,
My friend votes Republican. It was just Prager’s attempt to overcome Jewish objections to the GOP.
[43]
I think many of the concerns Chekote mentioned are totally unfounded.
Christians believe deep in their hearts that we Jews are destined for hell. This may have been true in 1920, but I don’t believe it has been in my lifetime.
Christians support Israel because it will hasten the Apocalypse. This one I don’t understand at all, but I am Catholic and the Apocalypse is not something we spend a lot of time on.
Christians have it on the agenda to convert Jews. The two religions that appear to be the most aggressive in conversions are the Mormons, which some view as Christians and others don’t, and the Muslims.
I think most of the fears are based on ancient history rather than today’s realities.
[44]
Hey, I am just telling you guys the reasons Jewish voters stay away from the GOP. That’s what they believe, right or wrong. Keep shooting the messenger. I don’t even know why I bother sometimes.
[45]
chekote, how your friend votes is irrelevant. holding such biased and ridiculous views is, well, biased and ridiculous!
[46]
Actually I think most Jews go to hell, same as most Gentiles. And of course most Muslims and Hindus, and Bhuddists.
Pretty much everyone. Much of the so called Christian church as well.
“Broad is the way, that leads to destruction, but narrow is the gate, that leads to life….”
“I am the way, the truth, and the life, no man comes to the Father, except thru me”
So Christ was either a liar or a mental defective, or he told the truth.
[47]
chekote, I didn’t shoot you! Either I don’t “shoot messengers” or I’m conserving ammo!
the reality is that the Jews of this country and the world are siding with the wrong side! The Christians aren’t the ones looking to wipe them out. but hey, if they insist on committing suicide I guess they should get about it!
[48]
I think most Jews are going to hell. Might as well say it. Sorry.
[49]
We’re not trying to shoot the messenger. We just don’t understand the rationale.
Most Jews that I know are not highly religious, but they are extremely liberal on a wide range of issues. I always assumed they voted Dem because it is the most liberal party.
[50]
Why are Jews so socially liberal? is it because they try to bury their own religion?
Christianity is not in opposition to Judaisim, but merely an extension of it.
All the Jewish prophets foretold the coming of Christ. When he revealed himself, they rejected him, no different than the episode with Moses and the golden calf.
Jews are no different than anyone else. They go to heaven or hell in roughly the same proportions as the other descendents of Adam.
[51]
“I think most Jews are going to hell. Might as well say it. Sorry.”
Yahoo, any particular reason?
[52]
Hey, I am just telling you guys the reasons Jewish voters stay away from the GOP.
We know why they stay away. So what. I’m over it, who cares. Fat lot of good it does Rahm Emmanuel to suck up to Obama. Obama would watch Rahm get his head sawed off by dinner jacket and not even blink.
The self-hating jew thing is a real hoot. At least Christians stand up for themselves, even though everyone hates us for it.
[53]
“I think most Jews are going to hell. Might as well say it. Sorry.”
They categorically reject Christ and his sacrificial death, and deny his ressurection.
If you want to know.
Didn;t you go to Sunday School when you were a kid?
“He came unto his own, and his own received him not”….
[54]
Bc:
From Matthew 8:
[55]
In reviewing the bios of the Powerline writers it’s interesting to note that all three are Ivy Leaguers. Ivy Lraguers take a dim view of Sarah Palin or anyone else that graduated from a school that charges less than $35k in tuition.
[56]
Not that this is Sunday school time either. Just saying why I think that…
[57]
“He came unto his own, and his own received him not”….
…..yet he who comes in his OWN name, he you will receive….
I probably wouldn’t have put it that way (the rest of your quote), but you are correct. This is why the Bible deals with “The Church” and “Jews” seperately, and why the weeks paused leaving 7 undone. They rejected their Messiah. They are the apple of God’s eye. They seek after a sign though. A sign they will soon have. When they are totally abandoned by the world (Biden saying knock yourselves out with Iran- who wants to bet that Damascus gets destroyed soon THEN Iran and Russia come to play), though everyone burden themselves with Israel….God will save them, and they will KNOW it was Him without a doubt. Christians live by faith and are saved by grace. No amount of law following can save us unless we accept the Lord as our Savior.
[58]
If you want to recruit people into Christianity the most important item on display is your own life… Not getting into Bible Arguments.
I don’t run up to Jews and yell “you’re going to hell” into their faces….. in case anyone was wondering…
[59]
NO….I won’t either….but there are Messianic Jews….and they can help bridge the gap.
[60]
If you want to recruit people into Christianity the most important item on display is your own life…
How many people have you kept away from Christianity? Thousands?
[61]
And I don’t get how professed Christians, such as Buchanan for example, can hate Jews. Isn’t the object of their faith himself a jew?
Uh, yeah..
So enough of the jew-hating from the Christian side.
But politically, the Jews are insane. It’s as if they are running from something. (God, hello…. the word Israel means “struggles with God”,) and so the Jews run off to Marx and anything else they can get their hands on.
so.
[62]
How many people have you kept away from Christianity? Thousands?
go to hell.
[63]
I think most Jews think that both parties are equally good on Israel (they are about to learn how wrong they are) so they vote on other issues.
[64]
go to hell.
If I am going, you are coming with me.
[65]
Ha, wanna bet? I can tell you one thing, if you make it to heaven I will leap into the fire with a smile on my face…
So all thru time I can be tormented but at least I can say I am as far away from you as the universe will allow.
heh.
[66]
So anyway, yeah Cornyn sucks…
[67]
I can tell you one thing, if you make it to heaven I will leap into the fire with a smile on my face…
Get ready to jump into the ring of fire baby!
[68]
Both parties are NOT equally good on Israel, but no matter, because the Bible does say that they will be ON THEIR OWN in the end (which, frankly, was not possible until Obama). This way, when God saves them, they will KNOW it was Him. Do the dems know that the battle is over birthright? This has been going on since Abraham, and guess who will win?
[69]
yeah, I am a spotted frog if you are anything close to a Christian, witch….
[70]
JustMary
I agree with you. I am just telling you what most Jews think.
[71]
Sad that they reject their Messiah. I do not. They won’t for much longer.
[72]
“How is that any different than what politicians do in DC?”
—
OMFG they wanted fireworks @ a forth of july tea party event and got sponsors for it, probably drew a bigger crowd because of it too… oh the humanity! Since my comments had nothing to do with Cornyn specifically no point in wasting my time responding to the rest of your rambling on the matter.
[73]
KH
They planned on raising $100K just because they wanted to hold it at Southfork and hire a professional event planner. The fireworks were $30K when they are free firework displays all over the Metroplex. The event was for free unless you wanted to take advantage of the Cool Zone or get good parking, in which case they charged $25. Is it a protest or a party?
