The Cost of Freedom (Mr. Jefferson, please call your office!)

The amazing document below served as the cornerstone of our nation…please read these excerpts (I have eliminated the long list of grievances from the middle).  My comments continue below it.

IN CONGRESS, JULY 4, 1776

The unanimous Declaration of the thirteen united States of America

When in the Course of human events it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. – That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, – That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.

In every stage of these Oppressions We have Petitioned for Redress in the most humble terms: Our repeated Petitions have been answered only by repeated injury. A Prince, whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people.

Nor have We been wanting in attentions to our British brethren. We have warned them from time to time of attempts by their legislature to extend an unwarrantable jurisdiction over us. We have reminded them of the circumstances of our emigration and settlement here. We have appealed to their native justice and magnanimity, and we have conjured them by the ties of our common kindred to disavow these usurpations, which would inevitably interrupt our connections and correspondence. They too have been deaf to the voice of justice and of consanguinity. We must, therefore, acquiesce in the necessity, which denounces our Separation, and hold them, as we hold the rest of mankind, Enemies in War, in Peace Friends.

We, therefore, the Representatives of the united States of America, in General Congress, Assembled, appealing to the Supreme Judge of the world for the rectitude of our intentions, do, in the Name, and by Authority of the good People of these Colonies, solemnly publish and declare, That these united Colonies are, and of Right ought to be Free and Independent States, that they are Absolved from all Allegiance to the British Crown, and that all political connection between them and the State of Great Britain, is and ought to be totally dissolved; and that as Free and Independent States, they have full Power to levy War, conclude Peace, contract Alliances, establish Commerce, and to do all other Acts and Things which Independent States may of right do. – And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes, and our sacred Honor.

The Declaration of Independence served as the cornerstone of a new nation…and the time is fast approaching when we may need a new document, to serve as the cornerstone for a new nation!  I pray that step will not be necessary, and that maybe just refreshing it will serve to wake up our slumbering neighbors.  For it IS time to refresh it.  Refresh it with a new list of grievances…a long list that is growing fast!  And we need to refresh it with a list of the current villains…starting with King Barack replacing King George, of course (“A Prince, whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people“). 

The Cost of Freedom was spelled out in 1776, and has not changed: “we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes, and our sacred Honor”.  We await only a modern-day “Thomas Jefferson” to pen the new document.  Mr. Jefferson, call your office…PLEASE!

    That’s your problem Justrand. Don’t you realize these documents were written by dead white men so they are longer relevant? What we need is some cool black dude to rework everything.

    God I love that phrase. I hear it frequently enough. Why? Because it is a pretty cool trick that dead men wrote documents from the grave. Proper wording would be “Don’t you realize these documents were written by white me long since dead so …”

    Next time you are at a party and you hear some wimpy liberal utter it use it to your effect. Just mention that is a nice trick that they could do that. It will bug’em all night long.

    As a small effort to free us how about a list of retail gas suppliers that produce ALL their products from US made oil. Well gues what —

    Here are some large companies that do not import Middle Eastern oil:

    Sunoco…………………….. 0 barrels
    Conoco……………………. 0 barrels
    Sinclair…………………… 0 barrels
    BP / Phillips…………….. 0 barrels
    Hess. ………………………… 0 barrels
    ARC0……………………….. 0 barrels
    Maverick…………………….. 0 barrels
    Flying J. ……………………… 0 barrels
    Valero………………………. 0 barrels
    Murphy Oil USA* …………. 0 Sold at Wal-Mart , gas is from South Arkansas and fully USA owned and produced.

    * *Not only that but they give scholarships to all children in their town who finish high school and are legal US citizens..

    All of this information is available from the U.S. Department of Energy and each company is required to state where they get their oil and how much they are importing.

    So yes Mildred YOU CAN stick it to the Arabs.

    Good post, Dr. Dog. I always buy from Murphy’s; it’s also quite convenient.

    Also watch out for retail gas suppliers that use Venezuelan oil, such as Citgo. No need to support the marxist’s good buddy Chavez.

    We buy from Arco a lot. Valero, I’ve seen in N. CA.

    Hess is cool! We had a friend who was a friend of the owner of Hess. Every year our son received a Hess truck for Christmas — really well made miniature that was like a collector’s item. It became his favorite gift!

    Republicans now have everything they need to keep Sotomayor from getting out of the Judiciary committee. BTW, I don’t think Specter has been replaced on the committee and hearings are scheduled for next week.
