A Clear Palin Victory

2009 August 16
by MFG

Now that the dust has settled it is clear to all but the most deranged that Palin has won the “Death Panel” battle with Captain Bullshit and has increased the odds of the whole plan going down in flames

Well done Sarah Palin!

    Specter is tone-deaf:

“I think we have to bear in mind that, although those people need to be heard and have a right to be heard, that they’re not really representative of America, in my opinion,” Specter told ABC News’s “This Week.”

Spectre is an ass of course. But give him a smidgen of credit. He did stand there and take it. Consistently. Unlike some of the others in his ‘adopted’ party who just ducked it totally, hid behind purple shirts, or phoned it in.

That I find it ironic that he will lose reelection regardless due to his party switch, is poetic justice beyond belief.

As for Sarah Palin, in a week she upended the Dems. Her first facebook post with “Death Panels” in it was short and the phrase summed things up and caught fire.

Having seized the discussion and directed it, her next two were longer. I think the second one she mentioned Obama’s response to her first. The last especially (going from memory) she went into more detailed discussion of the bill, indicating she can read and talk policy!

This is precisely why the Dems have continued to go after her all these months. I think they’ve instinctively recognized her as nemesis.

Specter is trailing Toomey by double-digits.

This is the time for the GOP to capitalize. Unfortunately, the party resembles two characters from the Wizard of Oz – the Cowardly Lion and the Scarecrow (no brian).

“well, the Lord hates a coward.”

This episode shows you a few things:

1 The truth will win if you are not afraid to speak it often and not back down
2 There is a thirst for leadership, and a love of liberty, still in this country despite all that’s happened.
3 The GOP with 90% worthless and needs to be replaced.

Oh, and one more thing: It proves that Sarah Palin is totally unqualified to hold any sort of national office in this country.

Occasionally we mention the UKs National Health Service (NHS) such as the comments made the other day by Investors Business Daily about Stephen Hawking and whether NHS was a benefit to him. I came across the following article which shows the health care debate in this country is raising some eyebrows across the pond. A good read.

I deeply resent the Americans sneering at our health service – but perhaps that’s because the truth hurts

I enjoy reading coldwarrior’s posts over there. He is a take no prisoners type, and not afraid to take a long clear look at the left in all it’s nihilist vacuity, and does not worry about being polite.

The GOP capitulationists or the “Frum brigade” are worrying about their makeup in the midst of an existential fight.

At best that makes them worthless, and a less kind view makes them worse.

No need to worry about Sarah Palin any more. Her 15 minutes are up. Besides, she never picked up much of a following any way. Once Palin resigned as governor, she became a nobody.

As one astute BJG poster put it, “She’s just in it for the money.” Sarah’s probably basking on her yacht in the Mediterranean and going from cocktail party to cocktail party, never to be heard from again.

Here’s Tammy Bruce on Sarah Palin, Newt Gingrich and the GOP (about 20 minutes).

    Tammy’s advice in a nutshell:
    1) Stay true to who you are; remain an outsider
    2) Completely ignore Newt Gingrich’s advice
    3) Get advisers who are outside the Beltway and NYC. I would be surprised if she has not already done this. Thomas Sowell has been a very vocal Palin supporter. I would be surprised if Sowell and Palin are not already in contact. After all, she can only make so many caribou bergers and moose-meat pies a day. I see Rush Limbaugh and Mark Levin supporting her big time.

You want to know what the top 3 standard of living enhancements in the last 100 years have been?

    1 electricity
2 liftstations (wastewater pumping stations) and wastewater treatment plants.

well, you never know with these old cities.

Old cities? Speak for yourself dude.

My parents first AC home was circa 1965/66 as I recall. Before that all we had were ceiling mounted whole house exhaust fans. In Florida. You wanted AC you went to a movie theatre. Mom put a army blanket between the bed and top sheet to absorb the sweat.

Waste treatment? Septic tank baby. Have a hurricane come thru and the septic would flood the leech field in the back yard. The whole neighborhood smelled like a Chicago cattle lot for a week till the ground dried out.

Then of course smart folks always painted their houses before the start of hurricane season. It was fun to walk over to someone’s home who did not and see 2″ of water everywhere. The hurricane would literally drive the rain THRU the concrete block and it would weep thru the drywall.

A little historical perspective is always useful. Apparently the French were the first -to use an underground septic tank system, back in the 1870’s. By the mid 1880’s, two chamber, automatic siphoning septic tank systems, similar in concept to those used today, were being installed in the United States. Even now, a century plus later, septic tank systems represent a major household wastewater treatment option. Fully 1/4 to 1/3 of the homes in the US utilize such a system.

  97. 2009 August 16 6:01 pm
    rightwingyahoo permalink

A septic tank system includes an underground tank and leach field A well designed and maintained concrete, fiberglass or plastic tank should last about 50 years. Because of corrosion problems, steel tanks may only last a decade or less. Most typical is a two compartment septic tank. The size of the tank will vary depending upon local codes, but a typical tank for a family of four would have a liquid capacity of 1,500 gallons. On the left is the input pipe from the dwelling, on the far right is the output pipe to the leach field. The tank itself is water tight and divided into two semi-compartments. This division allows for improved digestion of the waste materials. When the waste flows into the tank, the heavy solids (primarily feces) sink to -the bottom to form a layer of ‘sludge’. Lighter materials (grease, fats, small food particles ‘ etc.) float on the surface forming a layer of “scum’. Between these two layers is a soup of suspended materials and water soluble chemicals (urea from urine and many household chemicals). The division into two chambers increases the efficiency of the system at removing suspended solids. The second compartment receives its “load”, or liquid mixture, already substantially clarified (much of the solid material has settled out of the liquid). There is little turbulence in the second chamber either, because the load enters more slowly. Both of these factors allow settling of finer suspended solids than can occur in the first chamber where incoming material acts to churn up the chamber contents.

The process of digestion in the tank is carried out primarily by microbes excreted from our, gastrointestinal tracts (E. coli, for instance). Digestion is an anaerobic process, meaning -that oxygen is not required. Gases (hydrogen sulfide and methane) are produced and must be vented. Basically the same -thing that happens in a septic tank also occurs in our guts and in centralized waste water treatment plants, however a properly operating septic system probably is the most efficient of the three. In the septic system, the gases help to stir the sludge, scum and liquid layers which promotes further digestion of the solids. A properly functioning tank will convert the bulk of solids into liquid waste through the processes of digestion and hence, decomposition.

A septic system is well suited to breakdown human excrement, and a well designed, properly used and maintained system is one of the best choices for waste disposal in certain areas of the country. However, there are many potential problems with septic tanks. One of which is that people put a lot more than human waste down their drains. Even simple food items such as too much grease, cooking oil or fat may greatly reduce the efficiency of the system. Household cleaners, paints and other toxics are also toxic to the bacteria which make the system operate properly. Excesses of these chemicals may cause a severe disruption in the system.

Putting an excess load on the system when more people are in the house (flushing the toilet, taking showers and otherwise running more water into the system) then the system is designed for can result in materials moving through the system too quickly to be decomposed and contamination problems may result.

There are many considerations to be made before installing a septic tank system. In order- for it to function properly, it is important for the surrounding soil to have certain characteristics, the most important of which has to do with permeability. The water carrying capacity of the soil must be measured before a system can be approved for building and must be known before a proper system can be designed. Usually a percolation test is performed to determine the adequacy of the soil to support a septic system.

Another critical design consideration has to do with the height of the water table. The leach field must have a certain separation from the water table to prevent contamination from occurring. Likewise layers of impermeable “soil’ must be a certain depth below the leach field.

There is an engineering modification known as the Wisconsin mound system which may allow the use of septic tank systems in areas previously considered to be unsuitable due to slowly permeable soils (percolation rates slower than 60 minutes per inch), thin soils over permeable bedrock, and permanent or periodically high groundwater tables. Basically the only differences are the addition of a pumping station to pump the tank effluent up to a leach field constructed in a mound on top of the natural soil surface. This system is definitely much more expensive than a traditional septic tank system, but offers a viable solution in regions where the soil characteristics preclude the use of a traditional system.

Heh. I did not realize septic tanks went back before the 1900s, I thought they were ww2-era inventions……

I see these pictures from the 1800’s people in WOOL suits in New Orleans summers… –MFG

Little Ice Age. From about late 1300’s to about 1850 the temps were much cooler than they are today.

The Lions might be a little better at QB. They changed their uniforms slightly – stylized numbers and the symbol and stripes on the helmet are a little different (a blue stripe with a thinner black stripe on either side). I am going to the last exhibition game (free tickets from a printer).

NFL pre-season really doesn’t mean anything. The Lions went 4-0 in pre-season and 0-16 during the regular season. But, who knows.

Unlike the WWE and NBA, at least the NFL is on the level. Don’t tell Yahoo that NBA games are fixed. He’ll cry.

Speaking of the WWE. Linda (Mrs. Vince) McMahon is considering seeking the GOP Senate nomination in Connecticut. Could be interesting. Hopefully she’s not a RINO. I mean how could Triple H’s mother-in-law be a RINO?

Detroit is older than New Orleans (founded in 1701).

RWY, that’s no problem. My old man used to say there is needs then there are NEEDS. You might like to have the President drop by for a chat. But when your waste water system is on the fritz you LOVE your plumber.

This in from Columbia MO —

Sheriff White argued that armed civilians on campus have the potential to end the threat quickly. And he stunned the room with this assertion.

“In actual shootings, citizens do far better than law enforcement on hit potential,” said White. “They hit their targets and they don’t hit other people. I wish I could say the same for cops. We train more, they do better.”

Most advocates for removing the prohibition for concealed weapons on college campuses expected the issue to be debated during next year’s legislative session.

Think about that for a moment. A Sheriff is admitting that at least his experience says law enforcement is a bad shot?! Damn. Disarm the fr@#$%ers and give everyone in town a gun and a CCW permit!

Fact you know that would be an interesting experiment. You get rid of most of the police. You then turn around and deputize the towns adult population. Put them thru CCW training and encourge them to carry all the time.

100 years ago, you had to go to sleep when it got dark, (most places)
poop in a hole in your back yard (this is unbelievably disgusting and totally unacceptable)
And sit on the porch or under a tree and fan yourself for 4 months a year when it got hot.

Hey, sounds like California in 5 years from now.

    drdog, this from New York:

Harlem Man, 72, Shoots, Kills 2 Would-Be Robbers
Elderly Shop Owner Warned The Armed Men That Something Bad Would Happen — And Then It Did

This man is already being demonized in New York, even though he saved the lives of everyone in his store. They were pistol-whipping one of his people when he fired!! Note the reporters put his AGE in the headline.

Two of the other would-be robbers are still in hospital…and the local street gangs have vowed to retaliate against this man. Oh, and the issue of RACE has already been raised!!

That said…he’s alive, and the bad guys aren’t. A good outcome!

If they don’t already know about it, someone should forward that story on to the NRA.

the NRA must already have the story. The “beloved” A/P did a total hit-job on the man…and damn near delcared the dead and dying thugs Saints! They described how one of the wounded thugs ran towards a church…and collapsed on its steps (sniff sniff).

And they’re the ones who first put the man’s AGE in the headline. Obvisouly want to show the man to too OLD to have a gun. At the end of their story they grudgingly admitted these thugs all had huge rap sheets, and WERE in fact gettting ready to kill everyone in the store!

Hmmm. Claudette is a flash in the pan. Peak might be 50mph. Anna is probably the one to watch. Has a possible track along the Cuban coast then clear sailing all the way to Mobile. Open ocean to pick up energy all the way there.

Put Debbie in a hurricane tracking plane. Then dump her out the back….
