Nor will funding be the problem that does it. (though it could) If one assumes that occupational choices remain free then it all become unhinged in about 20 years. Just like Canada is now. Three distinct components -- Beginning. Those that were considering a medical career will come to the realization that to put the 12-15 years of prep, to have the next 20-30 years capped financially is not worth the debt, risk, and pain for all the personal inputs. So they will look to other occupations. In-System. Those that are residents, or just finished residency will be somewhat stuck. Their incomes will be fine for a while but as the caps take hold they will consider alternatives. Maybe make a geographical move. Or if they are further along in their career moving into teaching. About to Retire. Those doctors that are close to considering retirement will accelerate their exit. Flush the medical rat race and go sip Mai-Tai's in Belize. Number of oars in the medical waters will be the ultimate undoing. When there are not enough hands to perform the services because the govt perturbed the market, collapse is guaranteed.
