hmm…my opinion on the “$9 Trillion projected government deficit over the next 10 years”?

    (a) the $9 Trillion is gonna be $20 Trillion is ObamaCare and Cap&Tax pass
    -and-
    (b) it’s a joke even at $9 Trillion

The deficit THIS year is gonna be over $2 Trillion…and will put our country literally on the brink of collapse. Maintaining that pace year over year is suicide!

Obama is back in the negative double digits (-10) in today’s Rasmussen Daily Presidential Tracking Poll. overall (49% approval/50% disapproval). Those approving of his performance are much softer than those disapproving (as indicated by the -10 rating).

bc3b, the same with the feelings on ObamaCare. in the WaPo poll out today the For/Against ratio is 45/50. Only a negative 5 for our Dear Leader. But the STRONGLY For/Against ratio is 27/40. A 13 point negative for the Chosen One.

And this is WaPo/ABC polling…which means a hard skew towards Dems.

drdog, the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, Articles of Confederation and the like are just musty moldy old documents, kinda fun to look at when you visit the National Archives…but REALLY, are we expected to let them govern our lives?

We gotta be flexible! Besides, there’re hidden meanings inside them! If you turn the Constitution over, rub lemon juice on it and use a blow-dryer to heat it gently it says: “Oh, and every woman has a right to Government paid abortions!!

Watching National Treasure last night were you?

Understand what you are saying. Here’s the rub tho. The commerce clause has been limited to exactly that, even though the aspects about interstate commerce have been broached. So if they go this route using the power of that clause as the basis for being able to control the fortunes of the populace that nullifies the 14th Amendment.

    So slavery is legal again?

As to the feminist argument of reproductive rights its just about done if HR3200 passes. How can one have control over one’s uterus when the State controls every other aspects in relation to body parts. State wants to raise the birth rate? Oh well we have ‘The Board’ radically defund abortion services. The opposite? Add more money. But regardless control has been ceded. Freaking useful idiots.

We are going to have to learn to live with it, because it ain’t getting any better any time soon. In fact, it’s much likelier to get worse.

If Obama gets health care, carbon caps, and amnesty thru, look for the stock market bubble to reinflate, while unemployment goes up to 15% nationwide by 2010 elections….

Why am I not surprised about the projected deficit going up a third to $9 billion? ….and, it will undoubtedly be higher, if Obama is able to slam more of his agenda through.

Obamacare is an abomination! I’m sticking with my MFG vote that it will falter and die. If the dims stay with the public option, or the co-op idea (which people don’t trust as being legitimate), the townhall types will be angry and vote the dims out in 2010. However, if they get rid of the public option than the far left dims will be angry and vote against any watered down health care, opting for nothing, rather than “anything,” so they still have the issue of health care to rile the masses.

Cap & trade is weakening with the growing cooling that is overtly taking place across the country. 9 states this year have recorded overall cooler temps –that’s huge! Plus, the increasing deficits are taking the front seat to global warming rhetoric.

CIR —-> with everything else on the table, there is hardly time to think about trying to throw that against the wall too, to see if it will stick!

Obama’s numbers are bestowing him with some of the most dismal outcomes for a first-year President. Add his race-baiting comments and polarization, I think he will grow more ineffective with time.

The Republican Party is rumbling, like hungar pains from an empty stomach, but, so far there have been few stand-outs taking the plunge to differentiate themselves effectively from the dims. But, there is still time…..and, perhaps the tea parties will give courage to the lion-part of the GOP!

Pelosi & Reid —> Pitiful & Reprobate come to mind as adjectives for these two people. I think Reid is vulnerable in 2010, if the GOP can come up with a strong candidate to oppose him. Pelosi’s district, though, is just too liberal to upset her political apple cart. But, I do see her leadership position going bye-bye.

2010 elections, if held today, would see a sea change. Come 2010, a lot can happen, both pro and con.

2012 —> no crystal ball for that one!

Sarah Palin and her facebooks comments have been controversial and effective. I think, though, that she has to come out of the cyber world, taking and making her opinions on the national stage, or she will appear as nothing more than “ghost writer.”

Sarah Palin: “The America I know and love is not one in which my parents or my baby with Down Syndrome will have to stand in front of Obama’s ‘death panel’ so his bureaucrats can decide, based on a subjective judgment of their ‘level of productivity in society,’ whether they are worthy of health care. Such a system is downright evil.”

Barack Obama: “we are God’s partners in matters of life and death”

    From Kaus:

Old New York Times reporting: “Death panel” rumors “false,” the product of a familiar network of anti-reform “pundits and conservative media outlets”:

There is nothing in any of the legislative proposals that would call for the creation of death panels or any other governmental body that would cut off care for the critically ill as a cost-cutting measure.

New New York Times reporting: “[F]ears … about possible rationing” are “not entirely irrational”:

The zeal for cutting health costs, combined with proposals to compare the effectiveness of various treatments and to counsel seniors on end-of-life care, may explain why some people think the legislation is about rationing, which could affect access to the most expensive services in the final months of life.

    Sarah for the win.

Good question Yahoo. To paraphrase Michelle Malkin, we have a “Culture of Corruption” unlike any other time in our nation’s history. A few instances:

    - A marketing agency that belonged to David A$$holerod and another that was a major pleyer in the Obama campaign will receive $24 million from health care ads

    - A Brazilian firm that George Soros recently made a major investment in will receive a $2 billion loan for offshore drilling
    - DNC-orchestrated frivilous ethics charges that place the Palin family $500,000 in debt and drive Sarah Palin from office
    - SEIU thugs rough up people at town hall meetings
    - ACORN is unchallenged

All the time, the GOP stands by and does nothing.

Personally I am a little more optimistic. I say that only because those that are in the Congress and the WH are bunglers, like on the scale of 3 Stooges bad. Bunglers never seem to finish what they start. So –

    * HC. Senate rejects public option. The House libs seeing that as a possibility go into full revolt. At that point the libs pull the ‘take my ball home routine’, bolt and support nothing that is on the table. HC dies in its current form and is tabled till next year.
    * Crap and Tax. Economic news continues its lack luster pace and finally someone with a brain cell at the WH figures it is a bad time to burden the economy with 2010 around the corner. WH goes into a lazy 4 corner defense and suggests maybe 2011 might be a better time to talk about this.
    * Foreign Affairs. Something somewhere blows up bad. Say a NK missile goes awry and lands in Japan for example. ZerO stumbles again. Massive amounts of egg on face with two helpings of pie for good measure turn every pundit from moderate left to everyone on the right to a “He’s lame” mentality.

Sadly for all that goodness, the Reps will not have defined a cohesive strategy to capitalize on the misfortunes and only pick up maybe 2 Senate, 15 House seats thru it all. Dims remain in control.

Bottom line. Both ends of the Mall do nothing and we end up with a legislative Seitzkreg for the balance of Obama’s term.

drdog — I agree more with your scenario than some of the gloomier ones of yahoo or bc.

The more I read it seems like there are increasing numbers of formerly “disengaged” voters who are becoming actively engaged, forced into awareness by the sheer magnitude of Obama’s reaching into individual’s lives — their freedoms and finances.

The phrase, “awakening the sleeping giant” is reappearing when talking about townhalls; the repositioning of the “silent majority” now becoming a “verbal” group to be reckoned with.

Today, alone, there is a call for 1000 health care protests, outside congressional offices, around the country. It’s amazing how organized the “unorganized” grassroots is becoming.

So, I think there will be an impact by the public outrage. And, I also think we will be pleasantly surprised, come the 2010 elections. If there is fraud in the voting booth, like yahoo implied, then also be prepared for protest to follow (Iranian-style). Maybe this will be the “civil war” that people have alluded to which will eventually break the county apart.

All of this speculative, of course…but, I believe something “good” will yet come out of this confusing, chaotic time we are living through!

More likely its broken down into parts and rammed thru with an all-out blitz netting 4 or 5 Senate R votes. House is told to shut up and vote, and get what they want back in reconciliation. 5 Senate Rs agree to give Dems cover by voting for it after further media/Admin badcop/good cop…..

very few folks have ANY concept of the near total breakdown of society that would occur if our currency collapsed. If would take but a few days before storekeepers were armed to the teeth in an effort to defend their wares. —> Justrand.

It is said that markets keep a 3-day supply of food. Can you imagine how fast those shelves would be wiped out in cast of riots, etc?!!

I’m not trying to shout you down, Jan. I like your optimism, but I am skittish about joining you there.

My career is heavily tied to the pre-2006 status quo on the economy. I want nothing more than jobs to come back, people to buy homes, state governments to spend wisely on infrastruture.

This secures my family’s future. I would love for every year to be like 2004 and 2005, economically.

I just don’t think it can be put back. It could be, if we elected Dave Ramsey POTUS. But with the people and government the way they are, it cannot be put back.

    So.

    JM…the Holler isn’t a bad hunker-down place!!

I hear it can be burned out…. I guess most places can be.

If you have a power source, enough room for a few livestocks and a garden, defensible boundaries, and access to medical, I am sure it is a good hunker bunker.

I would have to band together to make it, with my surrounding neighbors. I have enough room for a garden and a chicken coop, and that’s all.

Not really good on defensible boundaries, my house is totally exposed. And no source of power either. Still trying to decide on that one, with money tight.

I just have an underlying confidence in people, that they will not let this thing go as far as some of you are saying.

In people’s core I think there is a strength & heroism that bubbles up when pressed to the wall, or during some calamity. You see it in earthquakes, fires, 911. Sure, there are your cockroaches too that come out and take advantage. But, I think there are more decent people than indecent people in this country.

You are correct. That is why people need to think more along the lines of a 1 month supply of food (or more) on hand vs a 3 day like the gov’t recommends. CA folks should be good at this already, I hope. Batteries, food, tp, water, ammo, comfort items, etc- all in places you can access quickly if need be.

I agree about more decent people “in the country”.

The problem is that is not true for the government.

Our main pantry has 6 shelves, all stacked with over a hundred pounds each. I had to rip out the wire shelves and install wood to support the weight.

We have a couple additional 5′x6′ cabinets that we have assebled, and stood up against the walls as well, also full.

And the master closets are, well, packed.

My worries now are going back to things like body armor, overall vulnerability to fire and projectiles, and how to pack up and get out if things get really bad.

Tie downs for the trailer and roof rack, lists of items to be packed and cartons enabling them to be thrown on and tied down in a few minutes, logistics like that are hard to focus on.

You are always thinking “I’ll never have to actually do this, so, it’s a waste of time/effort.

    Who knows.

Well, then rwy, if we agree on the quotient of “decency” in this country, that is a core belief.

I also can’t fault your view of government as not holding the same values as people. But, I think this nation was formed on individualism and rights that supercede the grasp of government control. We are in the midst of losing that edge…but, I don’t think it is lost yet!

Obama would declare a “banking holiday”, suspend trading on Wall Street, seize key infrastructure components, and the National Guard would be called out nationwide. And THEN it gets worse… — JM

O may call one but he can’t stop banking. The majority of banking is electronic which is seldom shut down. Not only that but the SWIFT system never shuts down. Western Union is on SWIFT. They are not a bank so they are not affected by a banking holiday. Billions could be out of the country in days even for a lowly schlep like me.

Trading? He can close Wall Street to what effect? I can go to the Hong Kong exchange and trade American stocks there too.

Unless he is prepared to shut down the 20 or so top level routers in the US, he does not have much recourse.

As to seizing key components, not enough manpower. He might be able to cover the power plants. But juice is most vulnerable at the distribution points. Of which there are hundreds. He might be able to guard the water pumps. But then there are hundreds of miles of viaduct. He can’t protect it all. Same with refineries, thousands of miles of common carrier pipeline that can be blown up.

O would be better off setting up a black ops to blow up the electrical grid and blame it on right wing militia groups so he can declare martial law.

    Just sayin’.

I was a kid when the Cuban Missile crisis was at its peak. There was nothing left on shelves in the Tampa area within 24 hrs. This during a time when most grocery stores were not 24×7. Been there, done that.

The one item most forget is water. You keep a 1 month supply of food. So what? Do you have month’s supply of potable water? For a family of 4 that would be ~600 gal. (4*5*30) You know I don’t see many home with cisterns these days.

Cisterns. There’s a course my firm teaches on how to build them.

Other than that, an outstanding point. I have thought about building myself one to catch irrigation water during the rainy season, for the dry months.

I read Farfel’s survival blog, and he said most water mains continued to run during the Argentina meltdown, with only minor exceptions.

Nevertheless it’s foolish to count on it. We have a couple tall stacks of water bottles in the garage, and an extra fridge, that would hold a week’s worth or 2.

Well assuming everything crashes and you have ‘prepared’. Have you? Are you prepared to barter? Do you have a skill to trade, for over the long haul that will be the only thing worth value?

    Industrial/Ag –

    * metal working (casting, welding, brazing)
    * Set up a neighborhood WiFi network.
    * Car repair
    * Alternate heating

    Domestic -

    * Make bread
    * Slaughtering
    * Canning, preserving

If as a group one can’t assemble those skills, 30 days will be tough, 6 months would be incomprehensible. Like they said in an old show — “If they don’t find you handsome, they better find you handy.”

You’re probably right about your assessment of who would go when in an economical collapse. But, in reviewing your list, I wouldn’t be far behind. Can’t slaughter animals, my bread-making is limited (but can roast a mean turkey), as is my canning abilities (haven’t done that since childhood).

I guess I would have to rely on nursing ability as a human commodity of mine.

They have full canning kits at Target right now, Jan. You can buy the “Ball” book on how to use your equipment, and it has recipes included. My Great Grandma was so awesome at everything, canning, baking, sewing, etc…..but my Grandma never had any desire to learn, therefore did not teach my mother. I was young when GG died, so what I know of old timey skills has been self/book taught. I own a Country Living book, which is FULL of info, and if I am not mistaken, there are several versions of it. I have tried growing things in my garden, but there are too many critters. Right now I have to rely on the store….but by next planting season I will have a mini greenhouse where I can try my hand at gardening.

rwy, on the subject of “Cisterns”, have you ever heard of H.O.V.E Hawaii??

Hove stands for Hawaii Ocean View Estates. It is the LARGEST sub-division in the United States, is built on (essentially) pure lava…and has NO WATER! We drove thru there while we were on the big island and were fascinated. Every single house has a cistern connected to elaborate gutter systems on their house. They try to capture every drop of water.

Strange existence. There are hundreds of miles of roads in this huge sub-division…and they all live this way!

Yeah. I’ve hadn’t heard of HOVE.

Hawaii has widely varied climates. On the east sides of most of the islands, the rains pour down and the climate is jungle/tropics.

On the other side of these mountains, its desert like, Arizona. Much more property available and less dense. They go from 400 inches per year on the wet side to 40/year on the dry.

We honeymooned on the dry side, in Makena on Maui. Lots of ash and dry clay soil, and hot in September. Even the red/gold beaches have a dry feel to them. Over on the other side of the island, it was like rain forest, with white or black beaches and more like FL., with humidity and cool breezes.

Interesting read from this blog posting: What would Obama do?. I guess framing health care in terms of patriotism was enough so God is now dragged into it.

This week, President Barack Obama claimed his version of health care reform was “a core ethical and moral obligation,” beseeching religious leaders to promote his government-run scheme. Questioning the patriotism of opponents, apparently, wasn’t gaining the type of traction advocates of “reform” had hoped.

“I know there’s been a lot of misinformation in this debate and there are some folks out there who are frankly bearing false witness,” Obama said, invoking the frightening specter of the Ten Commandments.

On Team Righteous we have those who meet their moral obligations; on the other squad we must have the minions of Beelzebub — by which, of course, we mean, profit-driven child- killing, mob-inciting insurance companies.

Why wasn’t this multi-denominational group of pastors, rabbis and religious leaders offended that a mere earthly servant was summoning the Good Lord in an effort to pass legislation? Certainly, one of the most grating habits of the Bush administration was how it framed policy positions in moral absolutes.

As CBS News recently reported, Obama has thrown around the name of God even more often than George W. Bush did. Then again, no group couches policy as a moral obligation more than the left. On nearly every question of legislation, there is a pious strawman tugging at the shirtsleeves of the wicked.

Good link. The real interesting part was the last paragraph that mentions:

But any change might be short-lived. To secure the vote of Sen. Abel Maldonado, R-Santa Maria (Santa Barbara County), in February’s budget deal, the Legislature placed an open-primary measure on the June 2010 ballot. If passed, the top two vote-getters in state primaries – even members of the same party – would face each other in the general election.

WTF? How could it possibly be good to have two members of the same party run against each other?
