Pelosi & Hoyer: Dissent Is The New Un-American Activity

2009 August 10

This week we begin a Monday, well, like a Monday!  Here it is–the opinion editorial from Nancy Pelosi and Steny Hoyer:

‘Un-American’ attacks can’t derail health care debate

These disruptions are occurring because opponents are afraid not just of differing views — but of the facts themselves. Drowning out opposing views is simply un-American. Drowning out the facts is how we failed at this task for decades.

They have written a parody of themselves.

As KnightHawk said yesterday, “That’s awesome…. let them keep digging themselves in deeper.”

Michelle Malkin provides these links:

Legal In-sur-rec-tion: Our Leaders Versus the Un-Americans

So this is what it comes to. After eight years of protesters hanging George Bush in effigy, calling him a Nazi, disrupting conservative speeches on campuses by taking over stages or throwing pies, creating websites and movies that wished for Bush’s death, and a myriad of other indignities…. After all this time, Nancy Pelosi and Steny Hoyer discover what it means to be “Un-American.”

Gateway Pundit: Just when you thought they could stoop no lower…

Dem Leaders Pelosi and Hoyer misrepresent tea party patriots– misrepresent their socialist health plan– say protesting their agenda is “un-American”– forget to mention the violent physical attacks by Leftist thugs on patriotic protesters.

Founding Bloggers fisks the column in: Pelosi And Hoyer Lie About Socialized Medicine: Test And Exams…”Without Paying A Dime Out-Of-Pocket”

and concludes:

They have such contempt for the American people.

Nancy & Steny need to be reported to the White House fishy line for national dissemination of erroneous material about health care!

UPDATE: Michelle Malkin’s Lead Story for today:

Rep. Tsongas tries to explain why Congress is exempt from Obamacare. Fails.

It looks like we have a bunch of night owls at BJG. I went to bed at 11:20 (I am in the Eastern Time Zone) and there was a 50+ comment thread started after I was asleep.

To the topic at hand. Imagine the media’s reaction if the statements made by Pelosi and Hoyer would have been made by the two top Republicans between 2001 and 2006. In the eyes of today’s media, criticism of the country is patriotic. any criticism of Obama is not only treasonous but also racist.

You have to give Palin and Bachmann credit for shining the spotlight on Izekiel Emanual and other Obama healthcare advisors. People who take the time to read their statements quickly realize that “death panel” is not just a sound bite, but a very accurate one.

Obama won’t curb healthcare costs via tort reform or denying treatments to illegals. But, he will curb them by denying them to U.S. Citizens,

It’s time to take our country back.

Yeah, I was kind of surprised to see how late people were up on a Sunday!

    The phrase really nails it.

As Jim Hoft (Gateway Pundit) pointed out, Pelosi and Hoyer totally neglected any mention of SEIU attacks and disruption. This is totally contemptible.

As I’ve said before, in the eyes of Charles Gibson an “orchestrated” demonstration is one where everyone dresses differently and carries homemade signs. A spontaneous one is where everyone wears blue SEIU tee-shirts, carries professionally made signs and roughs up anyone who gets in the way.

Gibson is about as dishonest as they come.

It’s really laughable when you see videos and pics of the protests.

From Rassmussen, are a majority of American citizens “Un-american”?

On Health Care, 51% Fear Government More Than Insurance Companies

Sixty-seven percent (67%) of Democrats fear private insurance companies more than government while 82% of Republicans hold the opposite view. As for those not affiliated with either major party, 53% fear government more.

Most of those who attend church at least once a month fear the government more. Those who rarely or never attend church or religious services fear private insurance companies more.

That last item took me by surprise, but I would assume it means the church-attenders have inculcated “dangerous” ideas of reliance on God and caring for one another rather than trusting in Big Brother and nameless bureaucrats to care about you! I guess the Dems will next go after the churches for “Un-American” activities next.

The sign variation has caught my eye when I’m watching these townhall meetings.

In one townhall, the people “for” health care were holding professionally printed signs, while the greater majority, who were vehemently against health care, had their words of protest scrawled on handmade ones. Interesting detail…..

More signs of the single-payer hoodwinking going on in Obama’s world.

Schakowsky is a left-wing Democrat from the north side of Chicago and adjacent suburbs and, as chief deputy whip, part of the House Democratic leadership. The video shows her speaking to an enthusiastic group last April. She cites an insurance company spokesman as saying, “A public option will put the private insurance industry out of business and lead to single-payer.” The audience cheers. “My single-payer friends,” she goes on, “he was right.” Later she adds, “This is not a principled fight. This is a fight about strategy for getting there, and I believe we will.”

If Gibson checked his bias at the door, he would be able to preceive what is really going on at these meetings! But, political prejudice clouds one’s eyesight!

That Power Line article is terrific:

Now comes Michael Barone with a Moby Dick of fishiness. Barone predicates an entire column on the video below, put together by Verum Serum. In the video three speakers who advocate a “public option” for health insurance explain how it would move America toward a socialized government health care system. “You may not have heard of the first two, Rep. Jan Schakowsky and professor Jacob Hacker,” Barone explains. “But you have heard of the third, President Barack Obama.”

I love the Moby Dick line!

INC — don’t mean to be flooding the thread this morning, but just too many good articles to let stand without people having a chance to read them!

I particularly like human interest stories that depict, in one person’s life experience, what we all are saying is going to happen if this health care plan passes. Here is one from a Dr. that is compelling.

So what was the answer? Was it to see more patients? Of course not. The HMOs taught us at least one thing: You cannot make profit in volume when you lose on every patient.

So recently, I quit. I sold everything, downsized my personal and professional life. I moved to small town America, took a part time job with a hospital. Now, I see less than half of the patients I once did, do no spinal surgery, and buy nothing but essentials and education for my children. I once employed 2 full time and 5 part time employees. I contributed significantly to the income of three factory representatives for the products I used in my practice. I was the only supplier of a critical surgical skill to a population of 360,000 people who now have no one. Now, I mostly contribute to the statistics on unemployment.

Obama campaigned on transparency, yet I don’t remember a more dishonest administration in my lifetime. You have A$$holerod, Emanuel and dozens of people like Linda Douglass, who is as dishonest as the day is long (at the North Pole in mid-June).
