Public Option Doublespeak
Yesterday Glenn Reynolds had this to say on the White House and the latest Public Option news :
RETREAT? White House Appears Ready To Drop “Public Option.” I suspect it’s a Parthian retreat.
Well, it looks as if he was correct. This morning Michelle Malkin has news and commentary that track along with Reynolds’ thoughts in White House public option ploy: A trial balloon, not a white flag:
The real Obama is a declared proponent of single-payer and universal health care Trojan Horses. All else is political theater.
Late Sunday, the health care czar’s office said Sebelius “misspoke.”
It’s not a misstatement. It’s not a surrender flag. It’s a trial balloon to measure the potential nutroots backlash versus the potential Senate pick-ups.
She links to a Politico article with this headline: White House backs away from public health care option that carries this ludicrously contradictory paragraph:
A White House aide said in an e-mailed statement Sunday afternoon that the president is not backing away from the public plan.
“Nothing has changed,” said Linda Douglass, communications director for the White House Office of Health Reform. “The president has always said that what is essential is that health insurance reform must lower costs, ensure that there are affordable options for all Americans and it must increase choice and competition in the health insurance market. He believes the public option is the best way to achieve those goals.”
Ed Morrissey in White flag or trial balloon? thinks the label is “immaterial”.
Obama won’t have the votes to move a bill with a public option, no matter whether he compares it to the Post Office, the DMV, or the VA, all of which are valid — and disastrous — examples of what a future ObamaCare will resemble.
bc3b in his earlier post Is Canada’s Health Care Plan in Trouble? also notes the contradictory statements of the White House and Howard Dean.
I’m with Glenn Reynolds on this. Watch out for the Parthian Shot.
UPDATE: From RedState: A Parthian Shot in the form of Co-ops:
Co-Ops is the Public Option By Another Name
Karl links to Keith Hennessey and Ramesh Ponnuru in The Public Option – Individual Mandate Two-step:
Killing the public plan is essential, but not enough to prevent government-run health care. Ramesh Ponnuru makes the case for focusing on the individual mandate

at least the Obama Regime is finally living up to their pledge about “Transparency”. This is tranparently phoney!!!
The deeper danger in all this is that the Obama Regime doesn’t even feel it has to PRETEND to be clever about stuff like this anymore. They KNOW for a fact that the MSM will clean up after them.
Pathetic…but scary as well.

They are the most transparent liars I have ever seen on the political scene.

Scott Ott wrote this on Facebook this morning:

Obama improved today in the Rasmussen Daily Presidential Tracking Poll: -7. Uverall 49% approval/50% disapproval.

the statistical “noise” in polling about Obama will have him up and down a few points on any given day. But the cold hard facts for him are that he is at BEST at a true 50/50 spread among likely voters across America. The other polls skew their sampling to make it appear he is in the mid-50s of Approval…but he’s truly not.
And he is only kept “aloft” by constant cheerleading from the media. If the media was playing their role of REPORTING the news, versus “shaping it”…he would be in the toilet.
But the American people are waking up, and the media will soon have to decide whether to go completely over the cliff with this moron, or…

Is the uptick on the Strongly Approve from his campaigning for health care last week?

That decision has long since been made, JR. The left, including the media, is determined to destroy the country and the right and they will make a stand with this guy no matter what. It is War.

Yes, INC, the uptick was actually due to the cute little girl commenting about those mean signs.

The cute little girl was a fake plant, the fake doctor was a fake plant, and Obama is a fake plant.
(I didn’t want to impugn the integrity of real plants.)

I can hear Axelfarb now — “More puppies please!!” Would make a great skit parody ala a Capital One commercial.

Hmm, if they need more children, perhaps they can haul these kids to sing to the audience before an Obama town hall meeting.

Fake plants deserve respect too! They’re don’t use water, so their eco-friendly. Well, ok, they’re mostly plastic and that comes from oil. But they still don’t deserve to be compared to Obama…he exhales deadly carbon-dioxide!!

Since there are fake journalists covering the national scene they don’t like using the word “fake.”
