The Cost of Freedom…and of LIFE itself!

We hold these Truths to be self-evident, that all Men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

Three Rights…stated to be “unalienable“, but now under assault.

…”the pursuit of Happiness” Although the Left has been chipping away at this clause for some time (oppressive taxation, demonization of business success, etc), Obama put it square in the cross-hairs when he told Joe the Plumber he was going “spread the wealth around“.  Re-distribution of wealth is the Left’s “antidote” to the “pursuit of Happiness”…the theory being that NO ONE can pursue happiness, because to do so leaves someone ELSE unhappy!

…”Liberty“.  The assault of Liberty has, sadly, been underway for decades.  But the Obama regime has accelerated this assault with their intent to limit Free Speech (“Hate Speech” legislation, “Fairness Doctrine”, etc), and with the wildly oppressive “Cap & Tax” scheme.  The goal is to put Government in charge, directly or indirectly, of virtually every aspect of your life.  The list of assaults on Liberty currently underway would run for pages…but certainly includes the demonization of those DARING to protest ObamaCare!

Which brings me to: “LIFE“.  The third of the “unalienable Rights” spelled out in the Declaration of Independence, but the first one listed!  The American people largely just want to live their lives (i.e., they’re NOT “Community Organizers”), and have mostly sat by while the first two Rights I mentioned (“the pursuit of Happiness” and “Liberty“)  have been chipped away at.  Many, like those here, have been fighting back for some time…but the vast percentage of Americans have just tried to go with the flow.

But now our RIGHT TO LIFE is being called into question.  And no matter how Obama and the Dems try to spin it, people are waking up to the FACT that that is exactly what is at stake!  Americans are understanding that they won’t be able to “go with the flow”…if they’re dead, or over-medicated in lieu of treatment or surgery. 

Almost in mockery of Patrick Henry the Democrats now cry “Peace! Peace!”.  They want CALM and QUIET at the TownHalls.  They want carefully staged Kabuki Theater that gives the IMPRESSION of “listening to their constituents”…and that is ALL they want.  But, as Patrick Henry replied: “there is no peace. The war is actually begun!”

Patrick Henry went on to say: “Our brethren are already in the field! Why stand we here idle? In our case it is WE who are “already in the field”.  The Cost of Freedom, and of our very LIVES is clear: roust your neighbors, friends, co-workers and family.  We need THEM at the TownHalls…we need THEM calling and emailing Congress…we need THEM “in the field” with us.  For the harassment of those daring to speak out against Obama is gaining momentum, and will only getting stronger and uglier.  Benjamin Franklin stated it perfectly: “We must all hang together or, most assuredly, we shall all hang separately.”

    Havok, you can go to http://en.gravatar.com/ and sign up.

    You can use something from the web or your own photo. They have a upload and crop feature to use.

    You can do several gravatars and pick the one you want to show up. It may take a while to show up–Mary said as long as hour. I think the first time I had to clear my cache twice. I may not have done that correctly.

    Excellent post, Justrand.

    The comparisons between today and the early days of our Republic are quite apt. These are historic times. A commenter at Hot Air the other day said that this time is both dark and thrilling. I have to agree. There are citizens who are waking up and looking back again to the Founders and the principles upon which the U.S. was built.

    At one Tea Party I was at I saw two people talking over an open copy of one of those small books that contains the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. I think the other day Katy Abram at Specter’s town hall told him she had been studying the Constitution and wanted to know when Congress was going to go back to the principles of the Founders.

    I was looking for a transcript of Katy’s words, but found this instead from yesterday:

    The fury of the Left is in full-force now, attacking Katy Abram with a shocking indecency.

    This morning, she spoke with Glenn Beck and described the vicious attacks, breaking down in tears more than once as she did (you can hear a portion of the show here. Beck said he understood her feelings, that he has a security detail following him for similar reasons….

    They’re calling her on her cell phone and accusing her of being a racist, as if that has anything to do with opposing health care. They’re sending her hate e-mails. These scurrilous cowards are even calling her father at his office and harrassing him there.

    I spoke with Katy just a little while ago. She’s doing surprisingly well considering all the cheap shots she’s taken. She said she feels as though speaking out is what she is meant to do right now. She’s not sure where her journey will lead, but she knows she cannot stop.

    Katy is paying the Cost of Freedom simply for speaking out as a citizen at a town hall meeting.

    Yeah, when you sign your email address up for gravatar, it can take a while to show up. Once saved though, it will follow you anywhere on the web you go. If other sites have gravatars enabled, it will show up there as well (provided you use the same email address). If you find a cool photo, rather than link it there, save it to your computer and upload it to gravatar.com, this way, should the picture ever disappear from the site you found it at, it won’t get erased from your avatar.

    Greetings All: I was at the Kittanning town hall meeting today. Acorn supplied 2 bus full of protestors but they arrived too late to be admitted into the meeting. Many of us here in Western PA were privy to the automated calls and emails telling supporters to arrive at 1pm (for a 3pm town hall!!) We all showed up at 11-noon and beat them to the punch. BTW the acorn buses pulled into the lot precisely at 1pm.

    OMG, Sarah used Obama’s own words against him in her FB piece. It is racist to use facts against somebody who is a) not a Republican and b) see a.

    Also, I’ve been thinking about Sarah’s death panel remark and I’m reminded of the term used by pro-abortionists and youknowwho: “Keep your hands off my uterus.” Remember, only a small percentage of wymen would ever even consider having an abortion, but the “abortion crowd” thinks they speak for the entire nation.

    So, what’s to keep the pro-death panel crowd from also thinking they speak for all of us? Just like the pro-abortion crowd, they also have some catchy slogans lined up: “Keep your hands off my broken pace maker” “Do not resuscitate-unless I’m voting” “Property of Kevorkian” “Bleeding-heart Liberal–No, don’t touch it, let it bleed”

    Anyway, first we had the audacity to upset the pro-abortion crowd by being (gasp) against killing babies, and now it looks like we are ready to stoke the flames by being (horrors) against killing grandma.

    This will not sit well with youknowwho.

    Not all of us are as good as Coulter. Only she can get away with “death paneling” somebody on a national news program and get away with it.

    on a serious note…State-run liquor stores (ABC stores) will be a thorny issue in States that have them vis-a-vis ObamaCare. In those States it will be all too easy to track alcohol consumption per person, and thus “adjust” healthcare to people accordingly.

    One “freedom” we do enjoy here in Kalifornia: we can wander barefoot and shirtless into a 7/11 at 3:00 a.m. and buy a bottle of cheap wine with a fake ID and no one asks any questions! Freeeeeeeeeeeedom!

    Coulter used to rub me the wrong way, but her style seems much more palatable to me now. I realize that she hasn’t changed, but I have.

    Another good “Cost of Freedom” thread, Justrand. It pushes on the mind to go deeper in thought about what freedom really means, past, present and future.

    We are on the north coast, above San Francisco, for a week. It’s simply beautiful up here, with gulps of blue ocean, redwood/fir trees everywhere, lots of natural open space — it gives you a sense of physical freedom. But, even with the remoteness of the area the government is pressing in on the people, trying to squeeze money out of them while exerting more power over them.

    Bed tax, for instance, which used to be collected on a quarterly basis, is now done so monthly!

    The govt. is also doing satellite surveillance around here, denoting the size and number of structures on people’s acreage. If people have built structures without permits they are being told to “turn themselves in,” and they will be treated less harshly. Otherwise, if the govt. “sees” structural outcroppings or additions that have gone up “illegally,” they will come in and throw the book at you. This kind of bureaucratic punishment is being done in areas with towns and unincorporated areas having populations of 485 and less. Just think how stringent govt will become in the cities, if they are hammering the rural communities so hard!

    Justrand, are you going to the Tea Party today in SF? I’m going to check out the sights and sounds and take pictures. SF literally is the “belly of the liberal beast” so I’m not sure what to expect. Hopefully a good contingent of counter-protesters show up to make things interesting.

    Got them here in Virginia. Used to work for the local store about 10 years ago. Let me tell you…if every state run entity ran like the ABC stores here, there’d be no snafu’s and well, the regular mess you find in state governments. They know where every bottle has gone, where it came from, yada yada yada. You’d think this stuff came from the mint or something, with all the sign offs, with all the protection…even down to the locks on the freight trucks tied like evidence at a crime scene, to make sure no one has opened the truck from departure to arrival.

    We can sell wine and beer anywhere in Virginia. It’s liquor that gets sold at the abc stores.

    mpt, I won’t be able to “escape” work soon enough…plus it’s “Poetry Night”, and thus my driving would be, um, impaired!

    I’m really looking forward to the August 23 TownHall out here though. Maybe Mrs. Justrand and I can meet you for a beer before the meeting…though she’s not inclined to go (she’s not much on “confrontation”). I explained we’re all gonna be good polite little citizens…but somehow she doubts me! 🙂

    I looked at the two vids over at Gateway. Did you notice something? Those were School Buses! Now I don’t know the business arrangement, they could be leased and contracted vehicles in which case its reasonable. But if that was school assets, what are they doing busing ACORN people to an event? Regardless of whether they are reimbursed or not.

    Hmmmmm?

    Justrand, that’s a reminder for me to block out the afternoon of the 23rd. I’m not much into confrontation myself. I’m much more content to ask a zinger of a question that puts them on the spot.

    I’m on iPhone the rest of the day which makes posting a challenge, but I’ll post a message if anything interesting happens in SF today. I’ll also post any pictures I take. Unfortunately I’ve no video capabilities. I’ll have to remedy that if I’m going to these events more often.

    I hear clips of 0bama at his “town halls” and all he does is deny the claims the opposition make without any detail.

    Many of the opposition quote portions of the bill and explain what they interpret it as meaning and why they oppose it.

    Instead of 0bama quoting the same portions of the bill and explaining why the opposition is wrong and what it really means, he just says isn’t true.

    He might as well stay home. He’s supposed to show up here in Phoenix. He makes me want to puke.

    You need to figure out a way of getting that specific question before him. Why he simply says opposition is wrong without explaining why. He’s a slippery one, but there must be a way of nailing him on this without the teleprompter on.
