    I’m worried

Although Pelosi is insane, she has always been a good vote counter

Reid I discount, because he has the IQ of a paper clip

But if Pelosi says she has the votes, she very well may be telling the truth

Don’t listen to Nancy. Watch what the hell Dick Durbin is doing in the Senate. Unless Durbin can bolster support for public option which is currently cold, the Senate version won’t have the provision. That causes problems in the House.

There’s a lot of chaos in the democratic party — lots of factions — with the bottom line being that people’s political hides are clashing with people’s political ego and ideology.

It’s passage (or not) depends on how Obama clarifies his health care objectives and calms his party in tomorrow’s speech.

    let’s say it passes.

Does not take effect till 2012, right? So say in 2010 we take back the House.

Now we can’t pass a bill overturning it because Obama will veto. But the house has the purse strings right?

SO we can simply not fund it and bring in a new pres in 2012, then repeal?

Mike Allen of Politico seems to think “something” will pass the House, in order to please the President.

    aureliusx

There are two parts to a bill, the authorization, and the allocation. Passing it is one thing, but allocating funds is another. Under the purse strings authority, congress would have the power( but probably not the testicles) to close such purse. There are other programs on the books that have authorized stuff that hasn’t been supported by expenditures.

So it would appear that this thing could be slowed down and repealed, but that would require political backbone, which appears to be lacking at this point.
If something becomes an “entitlement” the courts may stick their probative snouts into it and mandate expenditures, which might create a constitutional stand off, as that is none of their business.

Here is an article referenced by Politico on how Obama is “using” the House.

For much of this year, House Democrats have served as Obama’s expendable shock troops, able to move quickly and put pressure on the Senate to strike a deal. This was true for the president’s economic recovery bill last January and climate change legislation in June, and even after all the setbacks of the past month, Obama still seems to be looking past the House to the Senate on health care

The darkened text is by my doing. I thought that was pretty tacky!

MFG, I was impressed with the Vols too, however, UCLA this weekend and Florida next will tell whether or not we are back.

As far as LSU. A win is a win and you should never be too proud to accept it. 😀

I think it’s a bluff — not that they may have the votes, but I think things are in such turmoil over the bill an honest can’t yet be taken. What’s in? What’s out? Who knows? Pelosi is posturing right now to see what she can firm up.

    Just read the link.

Both leaders told the president that despite the difficult rough and tumble of the legislative process in the last few weeks, they are optimistic that both the House and Senate can pass health care reform legislation.

Anybody do a Senate count yet for 60?

Kennedy is cooling and won’t show.
Byrd is sick, and is not too excited about this bill.
Nelson, Landrieu are not going to accept the public option.

OT? Dog and MFG. What a difference a new coach with exellent assistance makes These were the some vols who, last year, could not even get a touchdown against competition that was as bad as Western Kentucky (The did get a big payout).

I initially thought that we would win 8 games this year, possibly only seven. Saturday changed my mind about the Volunteers. We could actually win 9. I give Florida. We could beat Bama, they have no quarterback either, but do have a good running back. Our Defense is improved from 3rd best in Nation and as good as Bama’s, plus our 4 running backs may be the best in the country. That will be a battle royal as the “third” sat in october usually is. Our defense is good enough to beat Ole Miss. Georgia is in real trouble. We will one two of those, i think. All we have to do is win the games we should win, including UCLA this weekend.

Florida is a given for third nat championship in four years. It is important to remember that SEC has one half of BCS championship games without a loss, by three different teams, Tenn, LSU (2),Fla (2). Would have been 6 if Auburn had not been screwed out of playing in the championship game in 93.

It is going to be a great college football season. Canes win over Noles was great game.

    RP,

I saw some high lights on ESPN about an hour ago on this week’s Vols game. You guys have an awesome defensive secondary. That and your QB ain’t bad either. Get the Gators with a bad hair day and you could go toe to toe.

    #7 – “Conference. Reconciliation.”
    Said it all…

House passes what piggy wants, Senate passes some convoluted similar version calling the government take over something less than it really is… and puff they just rewrite it all in conference supposedly for a 1$ less then whatever the house passed. Nothings changed if they want to Rahm it they can and take their risks a year from now. What’s a hail-mary for the nation after all.

I’m counting on the fact that politicians place their political survival and reelection chances above all else. We just need to convince enough of them that they are toast if they vote for this travesty.
