HealthCare: Prelude to Immigration Reform?

2009 September 6
by bc3b

The Obama administration took an overhaul of the country’s immigration laws off its legislative agenda this year, but the prickly issue of public benefits for illegal immigrants has resurfaced in the health care debate.

During the summer recess, members of Congress faced persistent questions from constituents worried that health care changes could leave taxpayers footing medical bills for illegal immigrants. President Obama has not been able to extinguish the doubts despite giving repeated assurances that illegal immigrants would be excluded from any subsidized benefits under proposals before Congress.

Here’s the entire article.

While there’s disagreement about whether or not “the undocumented” will be included in ObamaCare, three things are certain: 1) if “the undocumented” become citizens, 12 – 30 million more will be covered by the plan, 2) Obama and the Democrats will do everything to speed the process so new citizens can replace independents who voted Democratic in the last two elections and 3) hapless Republicans like John McCain, Jon Kyl and Lindsey Graham will gladly go along and give their support.

For the record, Jon Kyl’s name has no “e”. It’s possibly the shortest name in the Western Hemisphere.

I thought the world of Kyl, until 2007 when he sold out for amnesty. Cornyn too, has moved further left on the issue as the years go by.

These men are corrupt and for sale. Everyone knows this, yet Cornyn and Graham were re-elected in 2008, and Kyl in 2006.

Weren’t there some GOP congresscritters a week or two ago saying they would like to see CIR put back on the legislative agenda for this year? Arghh!!!!!!

Kyl was one senator who was part of the “gang of 12″ in the Senate on amnesty in 2007. Their job was to shut down debate and stop all amendments for border or interior immigration enforcement .

Before a procedural vote on an amnesty amendment, it was reported that he and McCain checked their vote with Ted Kennedy before casting it.

The Rs in the gang of 12 were:

    Graham
    McCain
    Kyl
    Martinez
    Specter
    Brownback? (not sure about him)

    The Ds were

    Kennedy
    Salazar
    Durbin
    Feinstein…..

    going blank on the others….

This is from his website. He is for amnesty. He just wants to go through the motions of enforcement first, then when he thinks he’s won us over he’ll start trying to ram amnesty down our throats. I heard him on local radio recently and he is hell bent on amnesty.

Comprehensive immigration reform legislation was defeated in 2007, largely because many Americans demanded that the federal government get serious about enforcing existing laws and better securing the border, including with fencing and other barriers, before considering whether to provide legal status to illegal immigrants who are already here.

After the legislation was defeated, I urged President Bush to more effectively utilize all existing authorities to enforce the law and thereby demonstrate to a skeptical public that our government is indeed committed to enforcement. The President subsequently announced that his administration would mandate expanded use of E-Verify to enable employers to check the work status of new hires, expand worksite investigations to identify those operating in flagrant violation of immigration laws, and increase fines imposed on those who knowingly hire illegal immigrants. President Obama should continue these policies.

Not to worry whether or not health “reform” covers illegals, as there will be no illegals when the flam flammer is through.

You know I actually see it as a bit of a good thing they want to bring up that debate next spring… the public is going to go ape sh1t again and it will be remembered months later at the voting both. The public was against it roughtly 65/45 or more last time around and that was with unemployment less than 5%, what do you think the sentiments going to be with unemployment > 8% or 9% ?

NYT reporter kidnapped in Kunduz, Afghanistan

New York Times reporter Stephen Farrell and his driver/interpreter have been kidnapped while attempting to cover the story of the NATO airstrike on the two Taliban-hijacked tankers in Kunduz, Afghanistan. The local Afghan press is reporting on Farrell’s kidnapping; however, the international press and the wires services have been silent on this issue.

The media has not afforded the US military the courtesy of a news blackout when US troops have been captured in Iraq and Afghanistan.

    No words.

This is sad to say, but I’m now beyond the point of caring for NY Times reporters and anything that happens to them. As far as I’m concerned, they made their own bed and they can now sleep in it. Perhaps if he gets the Daniel Pearl treatment it will open a few eyes at that pitiful newspaper. Nah, probably not as they can blame Bush and Palin.
