Obama Spoke with McChrystal Once in 70 Days

2009 September 28
by bc3b

This is certainly a unique interpetation of “wartime presidency.” What does it say about your Commander-in-Chief when he’s spoken with David Letterman more than his key guy in Afghanistan?

The military general credited for capturing Saddam Hussein and killing the leader of al-Qaeda in Iraq says he has only spoken to President Obama once since taking command of Afghanistan.

“I’ve talked to the president, since I’ve been here, once on a VTC ,” General Stanley McChrystal told CBS reporter David Martin in a television interview that aired Sunday.

“You’ve talked to him once in 70 days?” Mr. Martin followed up.

“That is correct,” the general replied.

Senator Judd Gregg (R-NH) termed it shocking that Obama has only spoken with McChrystal once,

The war in Afghanistan or Chicago Olympics – isn’t it wonderful to have a President who has his priorties straight?

Not that I expect the president to be up his arse, but I find it odd that it’s only been once in 70 days, particularly in leading up to a report and official request and recommendation for additional resources.

As amusing as that sounds I don’t know if that’s accurate, as they might have talked prior to his taking command no would that not tie him with Letterman?

more disturbing than the lack of talking, is that McChrystal’s report on the current state of Afghanistan and recommedation on how to proceed sits INTENTIONALLY un-read (hell, INTENTIONALLY UNDELIVERED!)

Obama refuses to even let it be delivered to him!

McChrystal seems to have true grit…he’s gonna need it.

Yup, I know Bush used to meet with both Afgah and Iraqi commanders generally weekly via video conf, I mentioned that here this morning.

But we gotta rush rush rush that stimulus, cap and trade, car bailouts, and health care power grab Tina … or else the terrorist will win…. or something. No time for those sandbox games, gotta get the Olympics to chicago now now now! 😉

    ****************
The commander of U.S. and NATO forces in Afghanistan has submitted a request for more troops, a spokesman said Saturday, but the Pentagon will hold it while President Barack Obama decides what strategy to pursue.
General Stanley McChrystal hand delivered his long-awaited request to U.S. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Mike Mullen and NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander Europe, Admiral James Stavridis, said spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Tadd Sholtis.
“At the end of that meeting General McChrystal did provide a copy of the force requirements to Admiral Mullen on the U.S. side and Admiral Stavridis on the NATO side,” Sholtis said after McChrystal returned from the meeting at an air base in Germany. …
The White House says it wants to review the entire strategy for the region before considering McChrystal’s request.
Right now the focus is on the strategic assessment itself. It (the troop request) will be shelved until such time that the White House is ready,” a defense official said in Washington.
    ******************

The White House wants to “review the entire strategy” before reading the REPORT on what the facts on the ground are. HUH?? The request for more troops is in the CONCLUSION…how about reading everying thing up to that part??

nope. facts would just get in the way

Here is a good ad from the RNC FINALLY attacking Obamacare for the taxes, fees, jail time, and Individual Mandates:

    http://www.publiusforum.com/2009/09/28/at-least-8-new-taxes-in-obamacare/

As far as this with McCrystal goes, it just proves what a liar (ya, a shock – Obama and D lie) he and other D were for the past few years….

This was supposed to be the “good” war….the one we HAD to fight…..and now he could give a crap less….

All that so-called “principaled opposition” to the Iraq War and Bush was BS – it was that they were anti-Iraq War or even Anti-War period…..

It was nothing more then a talking point campaign – they were ANTI-REPUBLICAN and ANTI-BUSH…..

They just wanted power to cram their socialist utopia down our throats…..

They didnt give a crap about Afganistan or fight terrorism, Al-Quida, the Taliban, or any threat….

They care about cramming phoney HC down our necks so they can perpetuate their polical power so they can continue to impose the yoke of socialism on us……

Basically, they will pull a Vietnam on the Afgans…..leaving them and Pakistani’s to die by the millions who supported us when the radical Taliban types take over both countries…..

We wont have to worry about Iran’s Nukes – they will get a ready made one from Pakistan!

Another story you here little about is how there has ALREADY been three islamic radical attacks/attempted seizures of Pakistani nuke facilities…….havent heard that in the MSM have you?

As far as “supporting the troops” – that is the cruelest lie of all by the left…..

The troops only matter when they are in a body count that can be exploited, when the have one out of 3 million become a hippy peacenik turncoat and flee to canada or run as a phoney blue dog for congress, or when they can be exploited as a “victim” of Bush simply for doing their job with honor as they volunteered to do!

Since the military by and large dont support the left, they dont care and are more then glad to see the troops and their familes suffer in order to reduce a voting bloc….

The left would be more then happy to let the U.S. Army bleed out ala Vietnam and return worn out, demoralized, and discredited…..that way they can continue to defund our defense for socialist redistribution schemes…..

I know this may sound harsh, but they have more sympathy for an illegal who broke laws since they will be a solid voting bloc then they do for our military vets and soldiers….

I guess the left can accuse me of being a “hater” because on this issue I am – they get people killed and make them suffer for crass political gain….

So if there are “trolls” or KOS PLANTS on here please feel free to report me to WH.NARC.NEIGHBOR.GOV – I am mad as hell about this and I aint gonna take it no more lol!

Not to to nit pick much but for the most par the Paki’s are not helping us, in fact they are at times straight up helping out the taliban. If we do pull out we need to invite India to what is needed and “deal” with the Pakistani problem, course I don’t think the balls exist on either side to let that happen.

#28 Knighthawk – you are correct. Many individual AND the Pakistani government ARE playing both sides…..

This is because they are RATIONAL….

They know that the U.S. is a historically unreliable ally in a situation like this….they read the books on Vietnam and know what happened to South Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos….

The U.S. left them high and dry…..sure, all three of the countries listed had individuals and even government officials supporting the other side…..but we had millions support us who were rounded up and “reeducated” or worse by the commies….or they had to flee their home country…..

In Pakistan and Afganistan, there are millions in out of government who have openly supported us who stand to lose everything…..my point is, the left feels no moral obligation to those people but feel a “moral obligation” to provide free HC to illegals and other mooches!

Same situation in Pakistan….they are Cambodia with nukes…..if we go, the situation will get ugly…..the Indian option, while interesting, I cant see happening – again, due to lack of guts like you say but also due to nukes on both sides….

In any case, the main calculation for the left on Afganistan will be a political one – strategic considerations or moral obligations will be stirctly secondary

Also, right now if you were running another country which would you rather be?

    A U.S. Ally or Enemy?

Right now, its obvious allies get dissed and punished & enemies appeased and rewarded!

Again, Afganis, Pakis or Iraqi’s arent scum or ungrateful, evil etc….

They are RATIONAL – they have to survive in their own neck of the wood and the U.S. is pretty much telling them in so many words – uh, screw you, were leaving….

So they have to hedge bets….

Maliki is doing that with Iran right now….

Paki’s are doing that with the Taliban…..

What the hell would you do in their position if Obama is your new best buddy?

  39. 2009 September 28 8:01 pm
    [39]

No they play both sides because they created the Taliban (AQ not so much), and want to keep them, and there fellow brothers around for use in combating India and yes as you mention when we leave a buffer against Iran on there west. I don’t know if I’d call them Cambodia with nukes but I see your point.

Just saying a war even including a nuclear exchange between India and Pakistan has some upsides for the US, assuming India won, which I don’t see how they could lose if they went all-in.

Knighthawk, as I understand the history of the Tailban is that they were a local Afgani movement that rose up as a reaction to the Warlord-driven chaos that happened after the Mujhadden movement splitered after victory over the soviets….

The Tailban originated in the south of Afganisatan and sweep across the country and took over….

Yes, I am sure the Pakis then coopt them to a large degree to maintain stability in Afganisatan when they were in power…..and today for the reasons you cite and to maitain control of their own homegrown tribals and islamic radicals….

But again, for whatever purpose, the reason they maintain a degree of control and support is for Rational self-interst (I like to cite this as this is a Randinista site!)…..

If were more reliable then they would have less interest in maintaining this….

At some point, when its no longer in their self-interest or they become too large an internal threat, the govt of Pakistan will attempt to elimnate them…..

I guess I dont disagree with you, I just dont condem the Paki’s morally for making a rational decsion….

This is for EPH ROVE: You are right, I think our buddy CHEK at HHR is a KOS PLANT!

Here is what she posted today:

” guess I am not as upset about the individual mandate as others around here. Changes are, it will not affect my life. But it will affect the life of irresponsible people who pass off their medical bills to people like me. Let’s face it. As a society we have made a decision that we are not going to let people die or go untreated just because they decided not to purchase health insurance and instead opted to spend their money in other ways. So they get treated and when they can’t pay for the bill, we are forced to pick up the tab. That’s why I am not as upset as others here about making people buy insurance. Philosophically, I find the idea of mandates abhorrent. However, the pragmatist in me realizes that we either make these people buy the insurance or I will continue to pay their bills. I vote for the former.

    Comment by Chekote — September 28, 2009 ”

These are weak left wing talking points! The whole “we pay the bills for the unisured” is BS – it happens but its a very very small problem, 1% of the total HC spending annually – a weak excuse for a governt takeover.

Naturally, I had to slap her down hard:

“Chek – I am really begining to think you are a KOS PLANT!

You are not “upset” about an Individual Mandate because:

“However, the pragmatist in me realizes that we either make these people buy the insurance or I will continue to pay their bills. I vote for the former.”

You ape a WEAK LEFTIST talking point they use to push a health care takeover!

Look educate yourself with real facts!

    (1) Uncompestated care you cite is 1% of total annual HC costs! This probelm is SOOO SMALL in the trillions being spent its laughable! So you want to turn our HC system over to the FED GOVT for 1% of the cost and less then 3% of the population who doesnt choose to buy HC insurance!

Look at your Health Insurace Bill, fiqure out what 1% is – not much! And far, far, far less then how much the FED GOVT will drive up premium costs with bs regulation, fees and taxes!

The 1% is a small cost to pay to keep my liberty, right to choose to purchase health insurance, and to KEEP THE FEDS out!

    (2) You presuppose ALL uninsured people dont PAY the BILL for their medical care! Again, FALSE! Most people do try to pay, up to 75%. Some people actually save and pay out of their saving or pocket. You fall for the typical arrogant thinking – that your neighbor IS not doing the right thinig when in fact most are. You would pay for your HC. Again, we want to take away rights based on false information and a small percentage of the population.

You must not be reading or remembering my previous posts!

The will push the defacto takeover with the Individual Mandate!

This is a very dangerous period because Nationalization will still occur even without an overt government run insurance plan like this “public option” provision everyone keeps fixating on – Wyden/Bennett and the Bacus bill are prime examples of this.

Here are the core elements what will be contained in the “health care reform compromise” after the so-called “public option” is in all likelihood dropped:

    (a) Federal Regulation aka HEALTH CZAR/DEATH PANELS
    (b) Employer/Individual Mandates aka NATIONAL HEALTH INSURANCE
    (c) Government Subsidies aka MIDDLE CLASS MEDICAL WELFARE

With the Federal Government setting the rules, forcing everyone to participate, and is paying the bills for most of the middle class through subsidies how is this anything other than Nationalization?

Here is a great link from a CATO study by Michael Cannon about how the takeover will work without a public option or COOP:

    http://www.cato.org/people/michael-cannon

    This covers it in detail….

Please think rationally and dont accept the lefts lies and talking points!”

Same talking points, tried to pass as a moderate when the only issue she was opposed to was higher taxes and never allied with conservative points.

The point is they are not going down, if they have to launch against Iran, there is no point in taking Russia with you and there by ensuring 100% self destruction where as a single successful hit from Iran is actually “sort of” survivable assuming it even make it though. I just don’t see a realistic situation where in launching at Iran, launching at simultaneously at Russia makes any sense what so ever.

Knighthawk – ya, I think ? is a straight up KOS PLANT.

If you read her quote, this is AN ALMOST VERBATIM LEFTIST TALKING POINT TO PUSH THE INDIVIDUAL MANDATE!

I heard EXACTLY the same line from liberal callers on Levin and Boortz radio show….

And the same talking PT from Juan Williams on O’Riley on FOX….

The left is using that as their counteroffense talking point to push people to support the MANDATE….

An appeal to guilt (we dont want people dying in the streets, FALSE of course) and envy (We are paying their costs, YA all 1% of them! Far less then the premium and tax increase I will be getting from Obamacare)!

Here is an AP article I found today:

“People playing the odds on health care over costs”

    http://apnews.excite.com/article/20090928/D9B0AI7G4.html

A leftist counteroffensive to ROB us of our rights as a free born citizen to make our own choices!

These people are being rational with their money and the left wants to FORCE THEIR OPINION ON THEM!

If we get into a situation where nukes are getting flinged at Russia then it’s pretty much over for everyone. Forget about ammo, time to start collecting sticks and stones for WW IV. No doubt the human race will go on, but we would enter a new dark age that would make medieval times look like a warm up.

Oh yeah in general if I’m going down I’m taking as many deserving folks with me as possible, I just don’t see it coming to that, I think the Arrows and similar systems take out 80% of anything inbound and then the outbound response takes out Tehran, and about 10 other cities in Iran, not to mention untold numbers of other locations. Iran more or less ceases to exist and about 50% of Israel is uninhabilitable for decades if a payload does make it though, not to mention the resulting contamination where ever the taken out payload end up falling unexploded, probably Jordan.

Nagasaki and hiroshima were rebuilt quite soon after, and were bustling cities in the 60’s last time I was there. Not to say it would be a desirable thing to have nukes go off, but the modern stuff is much less radioactive then the ww-2 types.

KnightHawk…just don’t play Lech Kaczynski. Poor Poland, a flat space, with no defensible borders, sitting between Germany and Russia over the centuries. Of course, WE’D never abandon them… — JR

NOW there is a country that has a justifiable need for developing nuclear deterrents. Imagine a mine field 50mi deep with ‘bouncing betties’ that pop 500′ in the air, each with a 10kiloton yield.

The piece de’resistance? The winds blow easterly.

KH, any speculation on the types and capabilities of the nukes that Iran could produce. I’m thinking Little Boy and Fat Boy type weapons in the 20K to 30K ton range. Certainly enough to take out Tel Aviv or any significant portion of Israel, it being such a small country. However, it would not render the area uninhabitable for decades as Hiroshima and Nagasaki were both populated and rebuilt fairly quickly after WWII. The early US weapons weighed in at 4 tonnes or so — that’s a LOT of weight to put on a short to intermediate range rocket. The electronics may be smaller today, but that is just a small part of the package. Could the Iranians do much better? Perhaps my speculation is wrong and weapons in the 100K to 500K ton range are within the Iranian capabilities.

Another thing to keep in mind is that building a bomb that can be detonated under test conditions is one thing, it is quite another to build a complete delivery system. Lots to go wrong and if it’s a dud — and hell is coming back at you if you don’t take out command and control infrastructure.

Polanski has griped my guts for years since I read the transcript of the hearing. Seems the genius filmmaker enticed a 13 year with promises of modeling and movie roles: drugged her, took nude photos, then over her protests performed oral sex, vaginal sex and upon discovering she wasn’t using any form of birth control, switched to sodomizing the adolescent. The victim’s mother, wanting to spare her daughter more trial trauma agreed to a lenient plea-bargain. Roman ultimately decided that didn’t work for him and took it on the lam. Now that he’s enjoyed over 3 decades of unsupervised “parole”, it’s high time he be returned to US prison where he can enjoy the same treatment he gave the girl.

Oh no technology has come a long way, as have manufacturing processes and additives like tritium (but I’d be talking out my arse as too all the details) , I have little doubt they could produce 150kt -.5 megaton warheads, if they have the right stock and supplies (using Paki as a reference and help from russia) perhaps even a bit higher, now as for accuracy and reliability they probably have some time to go yet to perfect that part.

Well I know the paki’s have stuff in the 150+ range, or at least that’s what I read online, same for India for there missile launched systems. I imagine what ever iran is up too is probably better then Pakistan, since they have far more cash, and I doubt “sanctions” have done much of anything as to quality though they might have added some delays besides being a nuisance and a cash eater. I mean really don’t know my speculation is though they’ve taken the base paki tech and added there own improvements so yeah 100-500k likely in reach, though I doubt there first test will be larger then 25-30’ish.

Still if I were the rest of the world I be more concerned about high altitude explosions (emp) then I would anything else.

Obama is dammed thick-headed he actually believes we’re going to fall for this. He wants your children from the time they wake up in the morning, to the time they go to bed. Weekends too. He desires to house them, feed them, clothes them, medicate them. . . .

There is a sickness with this man.

True but the Poles would not be adopting a MADD strategy like the US against the Russians. All they need is something that facilitates a battlefield denial on their Eastern border. Since they would popping off on their own soil they don’t want the yields too high.

    74,

Maybe a little drastic but if it works…..

A little mind game I have been playing with recently about illegals is the cost angle. I keep seeing reports that say up to 30% of the federally housed perps are illegals. So what would Mexico’s reaction be if starting next year we sent bills for the incarceration of their nationals in our facilities? Might the cost of prevention (ie Mexico patrolling their own border) out weigh the cost of having to pay that bill?

Many observers, however, have pointed out that the deposition of Zelaya was entirely legal under the Honduran Constitution, and that constitutional formalities were followed by both the National Congress and the Supreme Court of Honduras. Now, the Law Library of Congress’s Directorate of Legal Research has reviewed the legal issues under Honduran law and concluded that the deposition of Zelaya was entirely legal:

As stated in the answer to question II(a), above, the Supreme Court, based on its constitutional powers, heard the case against Zelaya and applied the appropriate procedure mandated by the Code of Criminal Procedure. … Available sources indicate that the judicial and legislative branches applied constitutional and statutory law in the case against President Zelaya in a manner that was judged by the Honduran authorities from both branches of the government to be in accordance with the Honduran legal system.

What was going on, of course, was that Zelaya was trying to set himself up as an anti-American dictator for life, along the lines of his heroes Fidel Castro and Hugo Chavez. Why an American administration would want to lend support to such a usurpation of power is inexplicable, assuming that the administration is not itself anti-American.
