Socialism doesn’t work, part MMDXXIV
Yeah…. yep…. didn’t work in the 1930s and nope, not working now, either
Note the
“There are “troubling similarities” between the US President’s actions since taking office and those which in the 1930s sent the US and much of the world spiralling into the worst economic collapse in recorded history,”
part, and the
“It is also not impossible that the US will experience the kind of economic collapse from first to Third World status experienced by Argentina under the national-socialist governance of Juan Peron.”
part….

Your wrong! Look at the success of North Korea, Cuba, the Soviet Union, East Germany. Uh…nevermind!
Now I am depressed. Thanks.
[2]
Unless I am mistaken, wasn’t there a false “uptick” in the stock market in the early 1930s? I don’t see anything positive behind the current surge.
Also, unless I am mistaken, Europe recovered before the U.S. during the Great Depression. Canada actually gained jobs last month. History often repeats itself.
[3]
You are not mistaken. The markets whipsawed all over from 1929-1933, and looked positive at one point in 1933.
And yet.
[4]
BC,
There was a huge uptick in the market, I think in 32 until 33. Then it crashed again.
[5]
and the mismanagement by Roosevelt, et al, kept the U.S. from gaining strengh…and made us look weaker than we were. Not that we’re weren’t pretty weak. But that helped encourage Hilter and Tojo.
Ultimately bad economics and war go hand in hand. Obama is setting up a similar scenario: diarming us, and destroying our economy. And his “friends” (Chavez, Castro and Imadinnerjacket, et al) are only waiting for their 15 minutes of fame.
strap in folks!
[6]
This could be a problem (One month old economic data, not that anything has improved). It’s a snapshot of the “real” economy.
[7]
Chinese: You leave now, big fat man!
[8]
The collapse is coming, folks. I hope you are all prepared.
Beans
Bandaids
and Bullets.
maybe some booze too!
[9]
rwy — post #6 was an amazing, even though depressing, capsulation of all sectors of the economy.
[10]
I have not been duly impressed by the stock market surge. There is really nothing behind it, that I can see. However, it was good to see the ol’ portfolio recover a bit. But, at best, it seems like a tenuous recovery. If you sell and have money, how much is cash even going to be worth, with all the printing going on???
[11]
Jan, glad you found it interesting…perhaps this is why some are predicting a double dip recession.
Although, it can be seen from the graph we never really got out of the first “dip”.
Baltic Dry Index a forecast of the amount of shipping booked for the next month or so…

KONDRATIEFF
[13]
Or, perhaps this might be a better picture of what is happening…
[14]
Dont know if you saw this article.
The dollar is doomed.
I have started stocking up on Silver.
That link is kind of pricey.
Mostly I buy from the Westminster Mint, but the possibility of being able to break it into 1/4 pieces is very handy. Ill buy about 20 of them, its all I can afford right now.
[15]
BDI is not shipping volumes, but rates, I should have said. When prices drop, that means there is less shipping of bulk dry goods anticipated.
[16]
Wow. 1776-1913, dollar up 11%.
1913-2009, dollar down 95%..
Nice job, Fed. smooches, really.
[17]
I’ve got silver too, Havok, and some gold, but not too much. Bullets, food, and fuel.

Picking up a diesel truck because my wife pointed out that it can run on home heating oil. Figure I will be able to find the fuel. That, unlike gasoline, can last upwards of ten years.
[20]
Uh oh. Should’ve haptipped the Dogster.
[21]
RWY, nope. I had the chance to write an article on it and didn’t. Execution counts more than inspiration.
[22]
Well, I had a few in mind as well, but sometimes the other posters beat me to it. Life.
[23]
Havok,
Learn how to make biodiesel. With Christmas coming up there are going to be 10gal containers of used cooking oil up and down the neighborhoods.
[24]
The main reason companies have been profitable lately is yhat they have been cutting costs – RIFs, cutting R&D, etc. About the only one that thinks that bodes well for the future is Joke Leaf.
Even Microsoft has been having layoffs. Yet, Bill Gates still wants more H1B visas.
[25]
That’s right bc3b.. and, the congress still wants amnesty, with unemployment at 10% nominal, and 17% actual.
Disgraceful.
[26]
I hear ya. It happens.
[27]
What? Sh*t?
[28]
No, socialism has never worked. So why are we trying it now ? Ask the President. He will mumble something about a “trickle up” economy and green jobs and other assorted BS.
I am curious. China is becoming a great economic power. I know they have moved towards capitalism but isn’t much of their economy still “state controlled” or directed. ?
[29]
Their per capitas are still far below ours. They are competing only in the aggregate.
[30]
Not that that does not mean they can’t whip us. Growth and savings will be much harder for them without us around, though.
[31]
dude?
She said “It happens.”… I said “what? sh*t?”
And your point is, mein Freund?
[32]
Forrest Gump, running…. he steps in a big pile of sh*t, the guys says “whoa, you just stepped in a huge pile of….” and Forrest goes “It happens”, and the guy goes “what, sh*t?”.
Then makes the bumper sticker “sh*t happens.”
Got it?
[33]
The point is, my grey cells are misfiring
[34]
nah, you’re all right.
You got a shotgun, a rifle and a 4wd, and you will survive. I should be so lucky.
Actually, I have those things too, but I’ll die anyway. lol.
