Obama’s Olympic Failure Will only Add to Doubts about His Presidency

2009 October 2
by bc3b

There has been a growing narrative taking hold about Barack Obama’s presidency in recent weeks: that he is loved by many, but feared by none; that he is full of lofty vision, but is actually achieving nothing with his grandiloquence.

Chicago’s dismal showing today, after Mr Obama’s personal, impassioned last-minute pitch, is a stunning humiliation for this President. It cannot be emphasised enough how this will feed the perception that on the world stage he looks good — but carries no heft.

It was only the Olympic Games, the White House will argue — not a high-stakes diplomatic gamble with North Korea. It is always worthwhile when Mr Obama sells America to the rest of the world, David Axelrod, his chief political adviser, said today. But that argument will fall on deaf ears in the US. Americans want their presidents to be winners.

Mr Obama was greeted — as usual — like a rock star by the IOC delegates in Copenhagen — then humiliated by them. Perception is reality. A narrow defeat for Chicago would have been acceptable — but the sheer scale of the defeat was a bombshell, and is a major blow for Mr Obama at a time when questions are being asked about his style of governance.

At home, it is difficult to turn on a television and not see Mr Obama giving a press conference, or an interview, or at a town hall rally, in his all-out effort to sell his troubled reform the US health insurance system. After three months of enormous exposure, Mr Obama has achieved this: the growing likelihood of ramming a Bill through Congress with — at most — just one Republican vote.

Full article.

This honest evaluation is a far cry from the fawning U.S. MSM, whish has itself coinvinced that Barack Obama is the greatest leader in the history of the world and his diva wife is the most wonderful and beautiful woman who ever lived.

After his world tours telling everyone how much America SUCKS as he makes apology after apology, is it any wonder the IOC doesn’t want to bring the Olympics to Chicago?

It cannot be emphasised enough how this will feed the perception that on the world stage he looks good — but carries no heft.

Looks good? More like a babbling buffoon.

I wish I had seen all of the Obamas’ presentations. It appears that the irony is lost on them that for all of their badmouthing Americans and constantly saying how horrible we are… they fail to realize that they lead the pack. I understand that their presentations were all about how what they wanted and how great it would be for them to be able to “walk down the street from their home and go to the Olympics”. This couple believes their own press. Their accomplishments in life aren’t any greater than and far less than those of millions, yet they actually believe they possess some great gifts. Wake up Barak and Michelle, you are affirmative action babies. It isn’t your skills or efforts but you skin color has gotten you everywhere you have been in life. I wonder if it is racist of me to point out that you are the beneficiaries of the racist policies of affirmative action and don’t merit what you have on the basis of the content of your character but only due to the color of your skin. The multicultural IOC was not so impressed with you and it also does not have an affirmative action policy. It isn’t just that Rio won… but that Chicago was kicked out on the first ballot. Oh, I am sure you will find a way to blame the Bush Administration for this stunning defeat and slap in th face. Don’t you wish you were a fly on the wall listening to SheWhoHasBigButt does a melt down freak out at being dis’ed in such a profound and undeniable manner.

Conventional Wisdom was leaning that O knew US had a lock so he wanted to bask in the glow. Least that’s what I have surmised so far. But if it was the flip? WH heard something that said Chicago was low standing in the discussions and so the dash to Daneland was to try and win it. That is O thought his mere personality and presence would save it?

bc3b-Got an email from Red Wings complaining about Granholm’s tax on entertainment and sports to increase revenue. Others may not realize but MI is considering a 6% tax on sports, movies, concerts, any entertainment.

For a family of four that has season tickets it would increase the price by $1,000 to $1,900 for the family. Add a tax on pop (soda for those of you in the east) and snacks and no one is going to go anywhere or buy anything. How will those companies do?

I was off on the amount a little. Here is their entire email. (I am a big red wing fan).

    Dear Red Wings’ fans,

As you may have heard by now, the Governor and the Michigan Legislature are seriously considering charging sports fans a 6-percent luxury tax on all professional and college sports tickets sold in Michigan.

This tax would be applied to tickets for major league and minor league baseball, football, hockey, basketball and auto racing. It would tickets to all college sports including football, hockey and basketball. It would also add a ticket tax to all concerts, shows and could even include movie tickets at a total cost of over $100 million per year.

This tax is not on the sports teams – it is on you – the fans. And all of us at the Red Wing’s organization believe it is wrong to target the working families

This ticket tax would cost a family of four from $597 to more than $1,900 per year on their Red Wings’ season tickets. Michigan would be the only state in the region to tax families attending movies, sporting events and concerts.

Fans Against the Ticket Tax was started to inform citizens of the potential for this legislation and to fight against this tax. We wanted to make you aware of this proposal and encourage you to speak out to the Governor and your representatives and senators in Lansing.

If you would like to voice your opinion on this issue, you can do the following:

    1. Go to http://www.NoTicketTax.com to join in the effort and tell the governor and your legislator what you think about the ticket tax. Let them know there should NOT be a luxury tax on taking your family to a hockey game.

    2. Send this email to all your friends and encourage them to get involved. Every email or phone call to Lansing will send a clear message that Michigan sports fans do not want the ticket tax.

    Thanks for your help.

    Go Wings!

    Great article from CNN reporter—–
    October 2, 2009

    Posted: 04:00 PM ET

    FROM CNN’s Jack Cafferty:

He gambled and lost, and now the whole exercise looks a little silly. President Obama, the First Lady, Oprah Winfrey… three airplanes, cars, Secret Service, staff, and of course all that luggage trekking off to Copenhagen to try to lure the Olympics to Chicago. The Windy City finished fourth in a field of four.

President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama presented Chicago’s bid for the 2016 Olympics today in Copenhagen.

But that’s sort of the way it has been going for President Obama lately…

Instead of Copenhagen — he might have gone to Chicago and addressed the brutal murder of a 16-year-old honor student in broad daylight at the hands of four street punks.

Remember the lectures we got from Obama during the campaign about family values, the importance of a father figure in a child’s home, etc.? Here was a real chance to walk the walk… but he took a pass in favor of Copenhagen. Instead — all we got was the White House press secretary saying the beating video was chilling.

The Olympics news came the same day as the jobs report and that news wasn’t any better. More job losses than expected and the unemployment rate at its highest level in 26 years.

After months of debate, health care reform isn’t going anywhere.

Iran is thumbing its nose at our president and the world. They may soon be able to blow up the entire neighborhood.

North Korea certainly doesn’t seem deterred by our change of administrations either.

Afghanistan is getting worse, and there is now disagreement within the administration on what to do about it. Study it some more seems the short-term answer. Meanwhile our troops are dying in record numbers there.

Except for the stimulus package, the scoreboard doesn’t look too good for our new president

BOzo: (hands are in his pockets, he’s chewing gum) “Well maybe I don’t want it. Have you ever thought about that? Besides, we sent in the appliation fee–that was almost a hundred bucks. So, duh.”

IOC: “So you’re saying you don’t want it? Fine, we will just give it to somebody else.” (Ever buy your kids something they didn’t appreciate, but when you threaten to give it away….)
