The Beltwaying of Newt Gingrich
Never have presidential aspirations so rapidly bit the dust. (Via Michelle Malkin):
Quin Hillyer in The Sound of Newt Choking and Spluttering , has come up with an appropriate description of what has happened to Newt (my emphasis):
IF this latest poll is accurate, showing Hoffman now leading the three-way race in New York’s special congresional election, then Newt Gingrich, Pete Sessions, John Boehner, and all the party hacks, including the NRCC staff who reportedly helped talk the local New Yorkers into endorsing Dede Scozzafava, will be eating so much rancid crow that they are bound to cough and choke and splutter….Frankly, Newt Gingrich should be ashamed. He has been Beltwayed.
What began in the days of Bill Clinton, continued with Nancy Pelosi, has now been finished by Dede Scozzafava.
P.S. I think Newt missed Mark Steyn’s warning to him last week:
Newt really needs to re-think his support for Dede Scozzafava. This isn’t RINO but DIABLO – Democrat In All But Label Only.

INC, did you see on Drudge Podesta wants to tax marijuana to pay for healthcare?
As soon as I read that, I thought: finally, the left will start paying their fair share of taxes. Now if only we could make abortions taxable.
[2]
Can a cong seat be won with a plurality?
[3]
‘Podesta wants to tax marijuana to pay for healthcare’
There will be an opt-out for liberal potheads.
[4]
Tony, I missed that. The Left base won’t like that a bit. (see phineas!).
IP–I don’t know NY election laws.
[5]
PG
Yeah, the libs read that and are in sheer panic. “Bastards, what will they tax next??! Lattes? Arghhhh!!!”
[6]
It’s ok, the swells are smoking arugula these days.
[7]
Oh man, if Hellcare is to pass I would LOVE, JUST LOVE to see pot legalized and taxed to hell to pay for it. It would be sweet poetic justice if the liberals end up paying twice a much for their pot than they do today because it’s now illegal. Besides, having the IRS on your ass for not paying taxes is certainly a lot worse than having the ATF on your ass for growing pot.
[8]
Besides, having the IRS on your ass for not paying taxes is certainly a lot worse than having the ATF on your ass for growing pot. MPT
If they can’t stop it from being grown in the backyard, what could the IRS do? The black market in pot is already established.
[9]
“did you see on Drudge Podesta wants to tax marijuana to pay for healthcare? ”
—
It would not raise the needed capital, it would raise some capital even after accounting for enforcement of the tax and licensing regime, but no where even close to “pay for healthcare”.
[10]
More distraction while they drop the tax hammer on the middle class.
[11]
Expect something along the lines of ‘we’ve all got to pay our fair share’, while of course the idea of who is responsible for creating these monstrous unfunded entitlement boondoggles in the first place goes by the wayside.
The goalposts will be moved to assuming the entitlement is a given.
[12]
This is why it will never be repealed if passed.
The ratchet of socialism only turns one way.

Not quite –
Granada,

Poland,

Estonia,
Czech,
Slovika,
Romania,
Hungary,
Georgia,
… and probably some I missed.
I ratchets one way, then falls off a cliff to be replaced.

As much as I am opposed… I would participate in the medical marijuana arena by being a grower… I can’t think of a more profitable crop for my few little acres. Plus, I could certainly beat out the competition because there would not be any loss in production from sampling the product. LOL.
To be sure the license to grow/sell will be taxed as heavily as liquor licenses are now.
[15]
ahhhhh… great cartoon… but shouldn’t those be middle versus index fingers?
[16]
Judy,
Problem is Judy, everybody who is growing tobacco in NC, SC, GA, KS will have the same thoughts. Course I guess you could go the artisan route and provide a 4x THC count roach clip to die for….
[17]
The pot heads are already growing their own, with no tax problems.
[18]
“To be sure the license to grow/sell will be taxed as heavily as liquor licenses are now.”
–
Yup that is the model I used in working up such a system for the State of CA.’
Worthwhile to do from the state treasury stand point, yes it’s a net positive, but is it going to solve the state’s budget issues? Not even remotely close.
[19]
To be sure if the government legalizes growing it then there will have to be some license or control and maybe I can get a check from the dept of ag for not growing pot… isn’t that the american way… pay me to not grow a specific crop….lol…
[20]
“The pot heads are alreay growing their own, with no tax problems.”
—
Especially in AK, where they are free (in a way) to do just that.
[21]
lol suddenly Judy will be pro-farm-bill.

Hoffman attacked by GOP ad. (HT: tommy_boy HHR)

Un-fu__ing real.
[23]
“This is a bad decision by the RNCC. In order to “win” one seat out of 435 (and what does winning mean in this context?), they’re alienating the foot-soldiers and voters and donors in the other 434 districts.”
—
Gee you think?
[24]
How’s the old saying go — “The heights of your success are measured by the depths your opponents will go to defeat you.”
If that’s the case in NY-23 then Hoffman is winning.
[25]
Being a student of history that he is, hopefully Newt appreciates the similarities between this and a historical event from the old west. The braves are massing and the cavalry won’t be coming to the rescue. Little Big Horn II starring Newt Gingrich as George Custer and Pete Sessions as Major Reno.
Newt is going to be “On the Record” tonight. Let’s see if Greta has the guts to bring up NY23.
[26]

This needs a Rush parody spot, reminds me of Saddlesore canyon parody starting McCain and Grahm
[27]
BC,
I might go for the Bataan death march. With the GOP standing in for the US Army surrendered. The elites don’t know how close to a range war they are approaching.
[28]
Just a couple weeks ago Newt was trying to give Sarah Palin advice about how to handle her career. Maybe next he’ll advise her on the secrets to a successful marriage.
[29]

If you are into WWII analogies, what about being in the wheelhouse of the Arizona?
[30]
I wonder if John McCain and Lucy Graham are rethinking their plan to move the GOP left. I don’t think the ladies believe that’s an idea they can live with.
[31]
McCain is announcing he’ll support cap and trade if nuke energy is included.
I hope he does, that will make him easier to defeat in 2010….
[32]
McCain needs to be struck by an asteroid.
[33]
Sorry Meghan but daddy needs to go bye bye.
[34]
Newt is going to be “On the Record” tonight. Let’s see if Greta has the guts to bring up NY23. bc3b
I think Greta thinks NY 23 is part of a football score. If it is the score is Sarah 1, Newt zip.
[35]
Wouldn’t it be something if Sarah Palin endorsed McCain’s opponent in the primary? I can’t wait to get my copy of Going Rogue.
[36]
Bruce -
The Rogue kicked a rouge? In Canadian football the endzones are very deep. If a team kicks or punts the ball into the other team’s end zone and the receiving team can’t run it out, the kicking team receives a single point (called a “rouge.” Unlike a safety, there’s no change of posseession – the receiving team gets the ball on their own 35 yard line.
Canadian football is cool:
- 110 yard field, which is also wider than the U.S. field
- 12 players per team
- 3 downs to make 10 yards; lots of passing
- No illegal motion penalties or fair catches
[37]
Lou Dobbs is about to have a segment on why so many people are “calling themselves conservatives.”
[38]
I don’t think she would do that (even if she wanted too), but yes that would be very very amusing.
Bruce game day really isn’t till the 3rd, though she’s clearly winning in the pregame endorsement games given the flood gates starting to opening following hers.
[39]
If you are into WWII analogies, what about being in the wheelhouse of the Arizona?
I would have wanted to be sure my insurance had been updated. Seeing as how AP that hit the forward powder magazine sheared off most of the superstructure of the ship.

Know anyone, female, in the Dallas area, that wants to burn a few hours. And no gags about going in drag…. mutley
She who shall not be named lives in the Dallas area. She posts at HHR, shall I let her know???
[42]
“She posts at HHR, shall I let her know???”
—
I nearly just copy and pasted that over there too… then I wondered if I’d wanted her in the focus group…. there could be an upside but then I thought about the downside so I refrained.
[43]
bc3b- yea, I used to watch Canadian football many years ago. I think they used to show it on espn when it was fledgling….Aussie football too which is also a kick.
[44]
‘there could be an upside’
The Scozzafava perspective? Only if you’re already upside down and backwards.
[45]
Oddly enough Mrs.? came out against DeDe.. lol.
[46]
Go figure–? opposing the Margaret Sanger award winner.
[47]
Must be because Scuzzy favors higher taxes.
[48]
You know someone’s bad when even ? labels them a rino.
[49]
I de-subscribed from Newt’s list in 2006. Yes, sadly, he turned into a completely tone deaf K Street, inside the Beltway, Washington-ite. He completely lost touch.
[50]
As to legalizing and taxing marijuana, does that mean that the politicians will then create price supports, low interest rate loans programs, and wind up paying the growers NOT to grow marijuana???
Can you make biodiesel from cannabis?
[51]
And will they make big fires to burn it all up if the prices get too low?
All the people downwind would be laying there stoned saying “Wow, far out, man.”
George Carlin would have had something to say about all this.
