Obama’s Frightening Insensitivity Following Shooting

…At about 5 p.m., cable stations went to the president. The situation called for not only his trademark eloquence, but also grace and perspective.

But instead of a somber chief executive offering reassuring words and expressions of sympathy and compassion, viewers saw a wildly disconnected and inappropriately light president making introductory remarks….

Anyone at home aware of the major news story of the previous hours had to have been stunned. An incident like this requires a scrapping of the early light banter….

…The disconnect between what Americans at home knew had been going on — and the initial words coming out of their president’s mouth was jolting, if not disturbing.

Transcript.

Our clueless C in C

Twelve soldiers were murdered in cold blood at Fort Hood. Thirty others were wounded. Our Commander in Chief calls a press conference and begins it with a long thanks to the Interior Department and Indians who just concluded a conference and  then gives a good natured “shout out” to an attendee , all with a studied nonchalance, before he even mentions the outrage on our military base.

Linda Chavez

He treated the event like a pep rally rather than a tragic occasion with a wider audience than those gathered in the room.

Huge Military Slaughter — But First A “Shout Out” to Obama’s Bud

…our commander-in-chief feels there is no event so serious that it cannot be prefaced by a moment of glib hipness, no solemn loss so sacred he will deny himself a moment of wry self-indulgence. Soldiers were killed? Let’s say hi to Joe first. An entire theater of war needs a plan to defeat the terrorists who struck America on 9/11? No reason I can’t go golfing, shoot some hoops, and hit the town with Michelle.

The only reason my TV still functions is that I didn’t watch Obama’s statement live. Had I done so I truly do not know if I could have avoided hurling something at it!

I would ask where this man’s priorities are…but it is obvious.

thx, Justmary…that is the perfect image to show what TRUE compassion looks like.

for all his faults, Bush really did care.

Despite the vitriol directed at George W. Bush on this site, much of it merited, I will always have a warm spot in my heart for the man.

    And that photograph indicates why.

Yes, thank you for the photo, JM.

Obama has no heart–none whatsoever. I really think he need serious psychiatric counseling. I’m not joking. The NBC article uses words that pinpoint some of his problems: frightening insensitivity, wildly disconnected, inappropriately light.

His reaction to an atrocity that has had tragic repercussions in the lives of families and friends of those who died shows an emotional disconnect that is disturbing. I don’t care what your politics are, if you can’t have some combination of anger and compassion come to the surface in reaction to this, something is wrong–really wrong.

That picture means so much because of the way he is holding her head. I hold my kids the same way, it is loving and protective. That was a genuine embrace. Makes me weepy just looking at it.

The message was, “We better not see you on again,” said the strategist, who spoke on condition of anonymity so as not to run afoul of the White House. An implicit suggestion, he said, was that “clients might stop using you if you continue.”

    How is this not blackmail?

INC, I didn’t realize you had this post up. I moved my comment here from the unemp thread.

Obama’s Frightening Insensitivity Following Shooting –Drudge has the link

Obama is in over his head. His reaction last night; thanking those who put the press conference together, the “shout-out”, etc, was more than him being insensitive, it was Obama being indecisive (again) and not knowing what to say or do.

This is nothing more than asking a child, “Why did you take that cookie after I told you you couldn’t have one?’ Their first inclination is to attempt a delay tactic while they get their story straight in their head. “What cookie?” or “Did you tell me I couldn’t have a cookie?”

Instead of Obama asking, “What cookie?” his mind is spinning, he’s got a bunch of reporters asking him about his thoughts on the shooting, and the only he could come up with is delay tactics. He may as well have asked, “Was there a shooting?” or “Oh, that shooting”.

This country is going to be in trouble if Obama continues using these child-like defensive mechanisms.

BTW, did Obama use a Teleprompter during last nights’ presser?

I’m still betting that he “choses” not to run in 2012. I said this 6 months ago and I still believe that today. No president has been this bad this soon.

With all due respect, I think the odds of Obama EVER giving up power peacefully are slight. I think the odds of him walking away in 2012 are near or at ZERO.

This man ADORES himself…and the world has been reenforcing his opinion of him for decades.

Kim Jung Ill will embrace democracy before Obama chooses to walk away.

Hillary’s political career is DOA after her association with this stinkbomb of an administration and her inept performance.

Taking that position was the dumbest thing she ever did. I still don’t understand it.

I am coming in late to this, but I was watching ‘it’ last night, waiting for him to make his comments. When he came on, all glib and going at it verbally about what, I had no clue, I thought, they’ve cued up the wrong tape or something. There is no seriousness, sadness, somberness, etc that ‘matched’ the scenario…I was thinking dear God, what the heck is he going on about???

Then, after the verbal glad handing and light-heartedness, he got on about the tragedy unfolding.

    what a rube.
