Hoekstra Attacks Administration on Two Fronts

2009 November 14
by bc3b

Pete Hoekstra of Michigan, the top Republican on the House Intelligence Committee, is taking the Obama Administration to task in two areas:

  1. Trying Islamic terrorists in a civilian court in New York City
  2. For covering up information regarding the Ft. Hood massacre

Here is video of Hoekstra reacting to President Obama’s decision to bring the mastermind of the 9/11 attacks, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, to New York to stand trial before a civilian court. Hoekstra said he cannot understand why in the world Obama is doing this instead of taking the guilty plea of Mohammed and letting his punishment be decided by a Military Tribunal.

Regarding the Ft. Hood massacre:

Rep. Pete Hoekstra (Mich.) said administration officials delayed briefing members of Congress about the alleged gunman, raising “red flags” about what the White House was hiding.

“When they withhold information, you always start asking questions,” Hoekstra told Fox News. “That’s what raises red flags. What do they know that they don’t want us to know?”

Hoekstra linked President Barack Obama’s handling of Fort Hood to a chain of other GOP criticisms of the president, including the administration’s treatment of detainees and an investigation into possible CIA abuse.

“It is a political correctness that is making it unable for us to identify the real threat of homegrown terrorism,” he alleged.

    Hey bc,

You gonna support Hoekstra or Mike Cox for Governor. I think Cox would have an easier time against Cherry but I know Hoekstra quite well. He is a real conservative and one of the few congressman that has been willing to go after Obama this year because of his intel position in Congress.

I t would be bad enough if Obama were just a left wing nut, but everyone he surrounds himswlf with is just as radical as he is.

Hw wants the civilian trials to make Bush look bad, but he and Holder have not thought through how they can backfies on the country and the Obama Administrtaion.

Last night BOP asked Karl Rove why the Bush Administration didn’t start military trials. Good question and Rove really didn’t have an answer.

At a certain level Hoekstra got it all wrong. For him to imply that Obammy is hiding something is to suggest that Obammy knew first hand that this guy Hasan would attack. I would ascribe much to the sheer stupidity of Obammy as the fact he knows nothing — because he doesn’t. Otherwise you elevate O to be all knowing.

    Nobody believes that do they?

I don’t think he’s saying that; he’s suggesting that the administration has information about Hasant that they are not releasing. He’s not saying that they had this information before the attack. Nevertheless, they don’t want it released.

You have three guesses as to why, and the first two don’t count.

    Utah –

Utah Teas are vetting candidates for the various State races

“The Tea Party people, by and large, were not supportive of Shurtleff because of his views on immigration,” Kirkham said. “I don’t think they would have voted for him.”

Kirkham said the movement will be vetting candidates over the next two months, with the hopes of uniting around one in January. Before that, they will be training potential delegates for the GOP nominating convention in May, when the delegates will either choose a nominee or narrow the primary field to two candidates.

If this catches on around the country, a guy like Crist is toast with a capital T.

Obama tripled the national deficit his first year in office and he’s off to a record-setting start in fiscal year 2010.

Despite the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, Hurricane Katrina, the Clinton Recession he inherited, and the 9-11 attacks, President Bush brought down the national budget deficit from 412 billion dollars in 2004 to 162 billion dollars in 2007.

    JM,

I would not ascribe much to the location situation. American legal system dictates that the accused is tried at the legal venue where the crime was committed. Its so ingrained that if the defense believes that an impartial jury cannot be impaneled they have to file a motion and convince the judge that a change of venue is required. Only a small percentage are ever successful.

All evidence and confessions will be thrown out. KSM will be acquitted because of the waterboarding.

Huge reparations will be ordered. Bush, Cheney, Yoo, will all be forced to pay enormous sums to KSM.Needless to say the Justice Department won’t help them (and sovereign immunity does not seem to be at play here, see Yoo).

Slightly off topic, but I want to vent.

General Casey went off the PC deep end when he addressed the terrorist attack against the Fort Hood soldiers by making the main point that he hoped diversity should not become a casualty of the incident. Jeez Louise, General, these are your soldiers, and your first thought is not to have friggin diversity become a casualty. You are more concerned with muslim soldiers in the military than you are with the ones laying on the floor bleeding out.

    From Michelle Malkin:

Anonymous testimony and intelligence based on hearsay are often inadmissible in civilian courts. And while the lives of those immediately involved in say, a mob trial, might be endangered, the entire nation may be at risk when we allow suspected members of a terrorist network to partake in the discovery process.

This is O/T too, and may be a good thread to post sometime in the future…

Here in California we are not only struggling with high unemployment, state deficits, but also drought conditions. Where we live we get robo-calls reminding us to save water “or else.”

What the public at large isn’t aware of is that much of our so-called drought conditions is government-made. Via law suits and the Federal Government, pumps in the important bread-basket of our state, the Central Valley, have been ordered shut off so that the Delta Smelt aren’t inadvertantly “ground up.” Because this ordinary 2-3 inch fish is only found in the CA Delta, it is on the endangered species list, and thus something that crazy environmentalists can push and prevail on in the Federal Courts.

In the meantime farms of all sizes are in jeopardy of going under. Over 40,000 workers have been let go. Hundreds of thousands acreas lie fallow and literally left to blow away, like during the depression dust bowl times. And reservoirs, like San Luis, are being lowered by the day. And, water rates, here in Los Angeles, are going up…..

The water captured in the delta is from melting ice caps, rivers etc. If it is not pumped back for irrigation and water use 75% goes into the ocean. So, that is where much of California’s water is currently being “wasted.”.

Obama, in the meantime, is having a symbolic “jobs summit” soon. All he has to do is override the environmentalists, mandate the pumps be turned on until better solutions can be found to “save” this minor fish — basically putting people and jobs before tiny fish. This kind of common sense decision would be a job creator requiring no 2nd stimulas, rather just a stimulation of brain matter relating to reality.

The reason I am bringing up the Delta Smelt is that Hugh Hewitt did an entire three-hour show, broadcast from the Central Valley, highlighting the issues there. He interviewed farmers who had 2-3 years left before they figured they would lose their farm. Supposedly they are having to irrigate with only 10% of the water needed, so are cutting out any and all crops that are water-users, like tomatoes.
Some farmers are only doing grapes and walnuts.

The bigger issue, that surfaced, though, was that the Central Valley supplies the entire US and places abroad with food. We are literally going to have to import food from other countries should this area be sacrificed in trying to save the Delta Smelt. So, the question here is why are Feinstein/Boxer/Obama etc. willing to put party politics (lucrative donations from environmental groups) above food production in this country???

Also, supposedly many of the Mexican/Americans who make up a majority of the population in this region are changing parties in what was described “in droves,” as they are fed up with their Democratic representation. We’ll see how correst this observation is, though, in the next election involving Boxer and a new governor!
