Did Political Correctness Play a Role in the Ft. Hood Murders?

As more information became known about Fort Hood Shooter Major Nidal Malik Hasan, you really have to wonder while he was allowed to be in the U.S. Military given his recent actions and pronouncements.

As more became known about Hasan, many of the rumors were cleared up. First, he wasn’t killed as was previously stated. Secondly, he was Muslim since birth, the son on Palistianan immigrants. Hasan was militantly proud of Islam and obviously placed it above his U.S. citizenship.

Yesterday morning he was handing out Korans and was giving away furniture to anyone who would take it. He had started wearing traditional Islamic dress recently and yesterday was captured in a survelience video visiting a convenience store in Islamic attire.

During recent months he had become open in his support for terrorists and his opposition to U.S, military action in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Six months ago Hasan came to the attention of the FBI because of Internet postings that discussed suicide bombings.

After lauding a Muslim U.S. Army soldier who killed comrades in Kuwait in 2003, Hasan wrote in an online posting, “If one suicide bomber can kill 100 enemy soldiers … that would be considered a strategic victory.”

Ishtiaq Chughtai, the president of the Muslim Community Center in Silver Spring, said Hasan attended prayers daily, often in his uniform, and showed no signs that he was conflicted about being deployed.

Hasan attended the Muslim center for about six years and seemed like a good person, Chughtai said. He gave people rides home and sometimes the money from his pocket.

But things appeared to go wrong for Hasan near the end of his time at Walter Reed. He received a poor evaluation while there.

At Fort Hood, Hasan exhibited a troubled state of mind. Retired Col. Terry Lee, who worked with Hasan at the psych ward at Fort Hood, told Fox News that about six months ago he heard Hasan say, “Maybe the Muslims should rise up and fight against the aggressor,” in Iraq and Afghanistan — referring to the U.S. Army.

He attended grad school in Bethesda at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences F. Edward Herbert School of Medicine.

In 2007, he completed a residency in psychiatry at Walter Reed and just wrapped up a fellowship in disaster and preventive psychiatry, also at Walter Reed.

In April 2008, Hasan was a participant in George Washington University’s Homeland Security Policy Institute task force that aimed at providing advice on security to the new administration.

The group met until January of this year and forwarded recommendations on to President Obama.

His actions became very suspicious:

A co-worker at Walter Reed said Hasan would not allow his photo to be taken with female co-workers, which became an issue during Christmas season when employees often took group photos. Co-workers would find a solo photo of him and post it on the bulletin board without his permission.

The psychiatrist once said “Muslims should stand up and fight against the aggressor” and that the U.S. shouldn’t be fighting the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan in the first place, according to a Fox News interview with Col. Terry Lee, a former colleague.

Lee told Fox News Hasan “was hoping that President Obama would pull troops out. … When things weren’t going that way, he became more agitated, more frustrated with the conflicts over there … he made his views well known about how he felt about the U.S. involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan.”

And when he talked about fighting “the aggressor,” his fellow soldiers “should stand up and help the armed forces in Iraq and in Afghanistan,” Lee said.

Once he discovered he was about to be deployed to a war zone, he apparently wanted out of the military.

According to the father of a young woman at the scene of the shooting, Hasan shouted ‘Allah Akbar!’ before opening fire

The family from northern Utah agreed to talk to us, on the condition we not identify them and blur out some photos they’ve supplied, because they’re worried their daughter could get in trouble with her superiors for making public what she told her family she saw.

The soldier’s father says his daughter was at Fort Hood Thursday when the shooting happened, and she called him, frantic and upset, soon after.

“She said, ‘Dad, I’m OK. Don’t worry, I’m OK.’ And initially I said, ‘What are you talking about?’ She said, ‘Haven’t you heard?’ And I said, ‘No.’ And she said, ‘We’ve been attacked by terrorists,’” the father explained.

He told KSL News soldiers were sitting in a staging area for medical and dental checks when the group was startled by gunfire.

“A person behind counter stood up, and he said, ‘Allah Akbar!’ And just opened up on everybody,” the father told us.

But, we live in a politically correct world:

  • No one at Walter Reed or Ft. Hood took any action against Major Hasan
  • He was promoted from the rank of captain to major in spite odf a poor performance rating
  • Yesterday, with virtually no investigation, the FBI immediately declared the shootings were not related to terrorism
  • While the death toll has risen to 13 and more than 30 were wounded, our “friends” at NPR are worried about Islamaphobia

    Eric Holder should be submitting his resignation this morning.

    Biggest FBI disgrace since Janet the Moose.

    Call me a racist (although Islam isn’t a race) but I have to ask: Is it possible for Muslims to live in harmony with others? In Muslim-dominated countries, other religions are banned. In Europe, the Phillipines and other countries, Muslime appears to become more radical with every generation.

    I don’t understand how he was promoted to Major with the issues he is reported to have had while at Walter Reed.

    The medical spokesperson giving interviews this morning, Colonel someone, admitted that Hasan was one of his soldiers. How could he not have known what was in his file?

    AND if he was having a tough time at Walter Reed, whose bright idea was it to deploy him????

    Somebody messed up all the way up and down the chain of command, it looks like to me…

    Where is IP and other BJG military folks to explain some of this???

    bc,

    Since peace came to Northern Ireland, has there been a terrorist attack against the west that was not done by a muslim? Political correctness is costing lives.

    All of them ought to be on a watch list.

    beej – My husband is retired military and athuogh I haven’t had a chance to get his full reaction, his first response was how the &^%$## does a MAJOR get harrassed? My main point would be that he did not have to join the military in the firstplace and he did not have to re-enlist. If he was so conflicted why did he stay? He was also 39. unmarried and without children. Has he had relationship issues his whole life? this guys is one big, red flag and yet probably he was ignored because nobody wanted to address the muslim issue.

    This was discussed to some extent at other sites last evening–evidently in the military rank promotions are almost automatic and obligatory. No difference in the medical corps.

    The bigger question that has yet to be answered is did this guy have overseas contacts?

    The media will desperately try to paint it as a solitary act, triggered by terrible oppression and discrimination. We must ask and contemplate why they hate us so…..

    It’s not a religion of peace, contrary to the belief and spin of the media and WH and other ‘elite.’ The more devout the Muslim, the more violent they are, because of what is taught in the Koran. I could be wrong, but everything I read about this ‘religion’ is violent, from Mohammed to Saladin, all the writings, and everything in between. I think they can only live ‘harmoniously’ with other Muslims. (except for Sunnis and Shiites) And even then, harmony is only relative. Look at the number of places trying to get Sharia law permitted in Muslim communities in the western world. This is so honor killings and other forms of punishment for women can be carried out. They don’t seem to have men who do any wrong.

    ~~~~~~~
    I am in agreement.
    It’s like the kid who goes around in black, tons of piercings, acts ‘goth’, wears ‘goth,’ and then complains if they are labeled ‘goth.’ If he was saying the things he was accused of, someone was going to argue with him.
    I can’t imagine a major, or Capt, being ‘harrassed’ about anything.
    So he reinlisted to continue in school???? Decisions have consequences, if you go to school on the military, you owe the military service time.
    ~~~~~~~~~
    I say we call a spade a spade. This was, in fact, terrorism. Home Grown. Hasan had ‘it all.’ And yet (why???) rejected western values, and espoused the ROP. And tried to kill as many soldiers as he could. (he didn’t go to a super market, or somewhere off base…but went to where soldiers were readying to deploy, or returning from deployment.)

    He (imo) exhibited premeditation in that he was trying to give away his things earlier in the day, and who in the heck carries two handguns unless they’ve got ‘plans?’ You don’t hunt with handguns, unless it’s people you are hunting. So, since he survived, his actions were premeditated, he is probably eligible for capital punishment.

    Hope Texas prosecutes him.

    Probably already posted here, but I thought I would pass it along before it is erased by the NBC goon squad. The NBC affiliate out of Chicago posted the following story: Obama’s Frightening Insensitivity Following Shooting. This story is going to get someone fired.

    From the comments below the story: I was watching the news when Obama took to the stage. My brother, a Bush hater sent me a text stating that Obama just killed his political career. Honestly when I saw the shout out I thought that the network was mistakenly showing a taped press conference from earlier in the day. Once I realized this was the press conference, I was stunned. This marks the day when Obama became irrelevant. He and Pelosi are so completely out of touch with Americans that even Democrats are jumping ship.

    I saw that yesterday, MP. I was aghast.

    I thought, is he going to talk about Ft Hood. Does he know the severity of it. Why is he thanking people and giving a shout out.

    OMG. Now he talks about the shooting. Five minutes in, he mentions the victims and their families and the military.

    Priorities.

    Always about him.

    TLS: “Janet Napalitano: “too soon to tell” shooters motivation.

    Almost make ya feel sorry for the poor bastard. He:
    - dresses in full Muslim garb yesterday
    - passes out copies of the Koran
    - pens messages on a blog about Jihad being a good thing
    - calls for American Muslims to revolt
    - tells fellow officers that WE are the oppressers
    …and THEN shouts “Allah Akbar” as he slaughters people.

    And Janet can’t figure out a MOTIVE??????????????

    If he could have afforded it he would have rented the Goodyear blimp to fly over Ft. Hood ANNOUNCING his intent to slaughter in the name of Allah. MAybe THEN Janet would have a “clue”.

    Hot Air got this from Instapundit who got this from NPR believe it or not:

    UPDATE: Here’s the NPR segment. Key bit:

    He [Hasan] gave a Grand Rounds presentation. . . You take turns giving a lecture on, you know, the correct treatment of schizophrenia, the right drugs to prescribe for personality disorder, you know, that sort of thing. But instead of giving an academic paper, he gave a lecture on the Koran, and they said it didn’t seem to be just an informational lecture, but it seemed to be his own beliefs. That’s what a lot of people thought.

    He talked about how if you’re a nonbeliever the Koran says you should have your head cut off, you should have oil poured down your throat, you should be set on fire. And I said well couldn’t this just be his educating you? And the psychiatrist said yes, but one of the Muslims in the audience, another psychiatrist, raised his hand and was quite disturbed and he said you know, a lot of us don’t believe these things you’re saying, and that there was no place where Hasan couched it as this is what the Koran teaches but you know I don’t believe it. And people actually talked in the hallway afterwards about ‘is he one of these people that’s going to freak out and shoot people someday?’
