“He was guilty of nothing, except that he earned his own fortune and never forgot that it was his.“ The concept contained within that phrase is what has set America apart, and made her the greatest nation on Earth. And it is the systematic attack on that concept, that this website is dedicated to fighting. This website is NOT devoted to making people “wealthy”, but rather to fighting the notion that the “wealth” they DO have needs to be “redistributed”.
“p.s. I love FoxNews…but CNN has WAAAAAAAAAAY better coverage!”
Conservatives don’t watch FNC because it’s good. It’s all we have. How many times can you rerun Rove, Morris, Williams, Huckabee, Gingrich and the guy from WSJ in a week?
Don’t count Hoff out yet. The early reporting looks to favor Owens because his districts are in. Only a 1/3 of counties in and two have not reported at all.
I just wish I knew where the NY23 vote is coming from. Hoffman has cut the lead to 5%. Hopefully early reports were from the eastern part of the district.
“Keep in mind on Doug Hoffman that 3 counties will not report their results online and one county, Fulton, has had a machine breakdown and will not report its results until tomorrow.”
Some comments from The Corner on health care to brighten your night:
Kicking the Heath Care Can [Tevi Troy]
It was noted earlier that the Democratic health-care can might get kicked into 2010. Now that Christie has defeated Corzine, this is officially a bad election night for the Democrats, which raises the question of whether this kicks that can beyond the tenure of the Obama administration.
Blue Dogs nervous about the trillion dollar Pelosi bill or Harry Reid adding the public option to the Senate bill despite having insufficient votes to get it through committee will be even more nervous after tonight’s demonstration of the public mood….
From Politics to Policy [Kathryn Jean Lopez]
A comment on my Facebook page: “When the story is written about how the Health Care monster was killed, it will be testimony to the intelligence and civic determination of the American people, demonstrated in tonight’s results.”
There are some people who may avoid the news and not realize she dropped out. I am also wondering if there are some very local races and the possibility of voting a straight Republican ticket. Some may be dumb enough to do that.
Don’t give up yet. It’s a huge (geographically) district and stop watching Intrade (and if you do, please keep it to yourself).
And Health Care is dead as Kelsey’s nuts in the face of of the mood of this electorate. Follow that up with Michelle Bachman’s tea party on Thursday, and the commies will be reeling.
Wonder if Captain Bull$hit will appear on four Sunday Shows this week to promote socialism.
Corzine was the PERFECT New Jersey candidate…and he appears to have lost!
He was:
- corrupt
- ineffective
- corrupt
- obnoxious
- corrupt
- self-funded ($22+ million on this campaign)
- corrupt
If a perfect candidate like Corzine can’t win in a mobbed up State…??
DrDog… you need to go on the Obama stimulus diet… last month I lost and didn’t gain 10,005 pounds….so go have that Dunkin donut with that coffee and give yourself lots of credit for all the weight you don’t gain….
MI, you wait. Obammy’s team will suddenly turn on the foreign affairs spigot in an attempt to distance themselves from the domestic disaster that has chimed in. Somehow though I don’t think kissing more butt cleans up the loss.
If you noticed the ugly congress woman, she referred to Hoffman as the “extreme right wing candidate.” Democrats always define Republicans. Republicans say things like” My opponent would make a fine President.”
The people hate Nancy Pelosi. The GOP needs to campaign against her. Hoffman should have. “A vote for Owens increases Nancy Pelosi’s power, which will increase your taxes and place a huge financial burdon on your children.”
The White House refused comment, and instead sent out Debbie Whatsaman Shultz to spin her way around two crushing defeats in NJ and VA. She hung on to the very thin reed of NY23 and the small lead of the dem there.
UPDATE II: Numbers in the war room
10:51 p.m.: Clinton County is more than 75% counted, and the numbers there project well for Hoffman. A campaign source just said, “We’re doing good in Oneida and St. Lawrence [counties], but we don’t know if that’s being reflect in the numbers” being reported on TV.
The top command of the Hoffman campaign is in a private banquet room dubbed “the war room,” where they are crunching the numbers precinct by precinct. It’s already been a longer night than most expected and guests at the party upstairs are getting restless.
Problems are reported with a total of 11 voting machines (4 in St. Lawrence County and 7 in Fulton County). With 63% of precincts reporting, Owens leads 49% to Hoffman’s 44%, a margin of about 3,400 votes, with 5% for Dede Scozzafava. Many military absentee ballots (Fort Drum is in the district) are yet to be counted.
He has spent over $100 MILLION of his OWN money getting elected there in the last elections!
If I spent $100 MILLION dollars getting elected ANYTHING, I would spend it getting elected permanent Emporer of Tahiti (or some such). New eff’ing Jersey????
10:58 — Things aren’t as great for Democrats in upstate NY as I thought. Clinton, Essex and Franklin counties, the Democratic strongholds, are largely in. Fulton County, which went for McCain with 54% of the vote, isn’t in yet. Lewis County, another 54% McCain county is still out. On the other hand, St. Lawrence County, a 58% Obama County, is only half in. I guess it depends what happens in those counties and in the remainder of Oswego County. Still not great news for Hoffman, though. –SEAN TRENDE
There will not be one. However I’m fine with Hoffman losing, I mean I wanted him to win but more important frankly was for Doo-doo to lose. We’ll come back next fall get Owens.
MFG – this is not Rush’s fault. The blame can and should be put on the GOP. They were the ones who screwed the pooch by putting up the democrat as a republican.
No, it sucks that Hoffman lost, and the NRCC sucks, and the people in the district have not been punished enough, I guess. Some of them have had enough.
But Owens is not a blue-dog, he openly states he will vote to kill grandma.
We won a close race in NJ and lost a close race in NY.
The important point was made to the establishment you can’t win by running pieces of chit. Add dede+hoffman votes, as of how you get win, still close, but remember the dems had this ny-23 race planned and funded well before we ever did. The gop fumbled the ball and once we got it back we got out played on the ground, it also didn’t help that Dede stabbed us back on the 5 yard line either, but one could say we should have expected that.
I don’t always agree with MFG, but I thought the “beastiality” comment was over the line. And, those of you who regularly follow BJG know, I don’t consider a lot of things to be out of bounds.
But, I think this demonstrates once again a third party approach doesn’t work. The time to get RINOs is in the primary (of course, there wasn’t a primary in NY23).
NY-23 was about taking the GOP elites to the woodshed, not the Democrats. NJ and VA took care of that for us. A NY-23 win would have been icing on the cake, but an unambiguous message was sent.
Those were made by the candidate, in a commercial run all over NJ by the candidate, trust me it got alot more play and it was over several weeks, I don’t think it was the determining factor especially if you look at the polling streaks during when that erupted – it actually seemed to help corzine for a bit.
Another setback for the Lions. Had Christie lost, he was going to sign with the team and be on the offensive line. They were going to run the plays around him.
I agree with Rush about 98% of the time, but those comments were disgraceful, it’s not a question of repudiating him, it’s a question of did this cost us the race
This is a VERY bizarre result considering the ruinous losses the Communists suffered in VA and NJ
hte ONLY encouraging note for Hoffman, is that his vote margin (3,000+ votes) remains fairly constant. I do believe he is toast…but I don’t know the districts up there.
JR – yeah it was close, and we lost a close race that polling indicated could have easily been reversed. I’m wondering if a number of people stay’d home thinking it was in the bag and the D’s out ground gamed us up there, not like Hoffman had 6 months to prep.
The people of NY 23 have merely screwed themselves…
Yep. They’ll wise up when this Obamaconomy knocks them around a little more. Wait and see what happens when the Army base in the district is closed to pay for more TARP bailouts and medicare for all.
“Winning is the only thing that counts”
—-
Really then why didn’t we all back the piece of chit selected RINO?
Because sometimes* (rare as it may be) winning isn’t all that matters.
I could almost care less if nancy has one more vote in the house, it’s not going to to matter, at least she doesn’t have one more sellout R to vote with her and claim bi-partisan ship.
the Dem machine will spin NY-23 as the only true “referendum” on Obama…and Oh Lordie look, Obama WON!
Hoffman was not a dynamic candidate, but his heart/head are in the right place. DeDe was a DISASTER as a candidate…and the morons who chose her should be tarred & feathered!
I really hate people that blame Rush. He is such a better American than anyone on this frigging thread. You go on the air 15 hours a week for 20 years and keep Ronald Reagan alive. You guys are butt breath wimps compared to him. Shame on you.
brucefdb…”butt breath wimps”? I don’t even know what that MEANS!
Still, I for one do NOT think ANY Limbaugh comment cost Hoffman this election. And agree 100% with Limbaugh’s beneficial contribution to Conservative thought and action.
So I want to officially reject the title of “butt breath wimp”, for myself, at least!
Agree with Bruce here. Blaming Rush is a BS. Rush was using rich metaphorical language that was right on the mark. If we have to second guess everything we say the communists have won, even if they lose. The blame lies squarely on the GOP for backing a DIABLO (Democrate In All But Label Only) in the first place.
It may be better even if Owens wins because Dede made no promises other than voting with the GOP through the current cycle had she won. Obama could have easily bought her.
There will not be one. However I’m fine with Hoffman losing, I mean I wanted him to win but more important frankly was for Doo-doo to lose. We’ll come back next fall get Owens.
If memory serves, NY-23 gets redistricted in 2010.
NewsChannel 9 has learned voting machines in Fulton County, which is a part of the 23rd Congressional District, have been impounded, after the machines were not working property today, the Fulton County Board of Elections confirms.
The county was forced to switch over to paper ballots.
They were not planning on counting any votes Tuesday night. We’re told by the Board of Elections, the paper ballots cannot be touched until the absentee ballots are opened a week from Tuesday.
The Board of Elections says they do not know how many people voted, but there are 22 districts in Fulton County.
Hey….just emoting guys….this is gonna be a long trek for us the next year….I’m off to bed hooping for the best. But bad mouthing Rush is sort of like saying McCain is our only hope.
“The Board of Elections says they do not know how many people voted, but there are 22 districts in Fulton County. ”
–
Odd since 20 of the 24 listed districts have reported no?
KH……I didnt say you were wearing it! I was just responding to your comment. We aint gonna win anything if we start tearing down the Rush’s and the Palins.
Good night Bruce. In the future I think you and MFG should take it off-line. I realize you are a big supporter of Rush, but denigrating everyone on this thread is not a way to win an argument. Just saying.
Hopefully tomorrow we’ll all wake up to good news.
My dream of dreams would for NY-23 to be dragged into court over shenanigans regarding Acorn. A big fat spot light on them this year would sure help us out 12 months from now.
MFG, I guess we just have to disagree on this. I certainly don’t worship Rush, but him saying Scuzzy screwed RINOs (metaphorically calling it bestiality) was being both accurate and colorful. As BCL, said “BFD”.
Rush need not be worshipped, and perhaps he could have chosen his words more carefully, but having said that- this was a non-story turned into a story by an opportunist.
Bruce, I don’t disagree with what you said and I understand your enthusiasm for Rush. It’s just that calling us all “butt breath wimps” saying that Rush is a better American than everyone else on this thread (without knowing our own personal stories) is looking to pick a needless fight. Let’s save that for the communists.
“His comments were stupid, dumb, wrong, uncharitable, ugly and couldn’t POSSIBLY have helped”
—
His comments were on target, humorous, and I would argue fairly charitable.
It is not his job to help candidates, his job is to entertain and inform – unless you believe the left that he’s the head of the party, which it sound like you do.
MFG you have no proof what so ever comments by a radio host against a traitor candidate that wasn’t going to win no matter what and who had already dropped out had any effect on this election. Your 30 years in sales as useful as I’m sure that is doesn’t change what went on in NY-23.
Last to MFG, I took a Software Consulting Division from last to first in one year….which allowed me to retire young…I did it by removing non productive spending. The customer wants results at the best price.
I do not believe Rush’s negative comments hurt more than his POSITIVE comment helped! Thus on balance I believe he made it closer than it would have been.
DeDe’s active backing of Owens may have had a greater effect than we thought.
Add in the fact that on each ballot, Owens appeared TWICE, and DeDe appeared TWICE…but Hoffman only appeared ONCE. Only in New York, folks!
the people of NY-23 get to live with their choice…and the effects of their choice. If they were so stoopid as to switch from Hoffman to Owens on the basis of ONE comment from Limbaugh…they woulda switched anyway.
“I’m more hopeful of that than I’ve been in quite a while.”
—
I’m not. The more voter interviews i see the more “give me” leeches I hear, maybe I just need to ignore the NJ voters. uhhh.
“Add in the fact that on each ballot, Owens appeared TWICE, and DeDe appeared TWICE…but Hoffman only appeared ONCE. Only in New York, folks!”
—
I wasn’t aware of that, why was that if anyone knows?
The more voter interviews i see the more “give me” leeches I hear, maybe I just need to ignore the NJ voters.
They’re all over California as well. We can only hope that enough eyes can be opened before it’s too late. I have been thinking we already passed that point, but perhaps not. That is reason a to be hopeful.
“enough eyes can be opened before it’s too late”
—
I’m not optimistic but we’ll see what 2010 brings… seem to me like a make or break for the future, last chance to plug the dike. They all seem to seem that way, but this coming one far more so then usual.
Yes, liberty does really matter in the real world and not just in the abstract…..
And if a conservative or Republican politican can articulate this in terms people can understand then shame on him – its not that hard to explain or grasp….
VA — Big Win
NJ — Big Win
NY23 — Big Loss
CA10 — Small Loss
The huge spread in VA and the Got in the Lead and stayed there for Christie was a big signal. NY23 was a downer for sure. The unanswerable question is would Hoff’s loss been bigger without the Teas and endorsements? CA10 looked as expected. But Harmor did pretty well considering. Did not quite break into single digits on the spread. But it does show even Dims are vulnerable in what are traditionally safe seats.
The theme if ya want to win in 2010 — “Its the economy stupid!”
I’ll be interested to see the post-election numbers for NY-23, particularly the male/female splits.
I won’t be surprised if the female vote did him in, so in that regard I agree with MFG.
However, I don’t think it was any comments by Rush. As I stated last week. Hoffmann was not a particularly good candidate. More than that, he was a strange looking dude who gave off a weird vibe. I don’t think that went down well with many women. On the other hand, Owens played well to the female vote.
General lesson is that third-party is not the way to go, although in this instance it was appropriate. The main point of NY-23 was rejecting the RINO. A point was made, and it will be lasting. The two big political races of the night, both major governorships including NJ where the marxist fully invested himself, both go GOP. The state-run media can spin it any way they want, it is clear who won and who lost.
Compared to the 2008 numbers, those are major swings, which the Blue Dogs and moderate Dems cannot ignore. Hellcare is now hanging by a thread, if that.
It would be best if we stopped doing imbecilic things like referring to bestiality when discussing unattractive women
Like mpt said, he was referring to screwing RINOs, not ugly women. He was not suggesting ugly women were beasts.
It’s comments like that that feed the fire of lib bias against conservatives. They see that remark and figure they’re justified in their hatred. They figure they don’t even have to actually listen to Rush, Beck, Hannity, etc. since there is a consensus on the left and the right regarding them. Sheesh…
Scuzzy could have been a factor late in the race with her robo calling and endorsement of the dem. I think Rush is getting blown out of proportion, just like “macaca” did. Probably a bigger deal in post-analysis than in the real outcome of the race.
This race was so out-of-whack, anything could have happened. To think the conservative came from 0 to 45% in 4 weeks is incredible. That said, I would much rather have NJ than NY because we can get NY next year if the GOP learned its lesson.
Newt and Steele and Huck and Romney did more to lose the district than anything else.
After reviewing last night’s game film on this thread I want to flag myself for 1) Unsportsmanlike conduct 2) Unnecessary Rushness 3) Incoherent posting and 4) Bestiality.
I apologize to all but in particular to MFG, bc3b, and Mike Thompson.
As punishment I am (for an indefinite period) 1) limiting all future posts on this site to emoticons and punctuation marks 2) demoting myself to the blogger minor leagues (i.e. Oak Leaf threads at Polipundit) and 3) receiving sensitivity training from RightWingYahoo and IP727.
I have, however, taken out a copyright on the phrase Butt breath wimps.
I will repost this on threads throughout the day until I am sure all have had a chance to read it.
I appreciate your mea culpa, but for my part, not necessary.
As for your copyright, I already have this phrase in public use so your copyright application may be in trouble. I launched a dating web site this morning, and one of the categories of male prospects is “butt breath wimps”. Since none of my other prospects have signed up for matches in the category, I could, for a small fee and reimbursement of my design work, rename that category something else. It was intended to match females in the “hammertoed dominatrix” category. As I said, no matches have yet been made, so I can make this offer to you.
“Add in the fact that on each ballot, Owens appeared TWICE, and DeDe appeared TWICE…but Hoffman only appeared ONCE. Only in New York, folks!”
I saw a copy of the sample ballot at R. S. McCain yesterday. I was shocked to see that. I should have mentioned it, but I forgot. I did some searching (not a huge amount), but couldn’t find out why.
Owens was listed as a Democrat and Working Families.
Bruce, I don’t think there’s any need to limit yourself to emoticons.
Speaking as a woman, I thought what Rush said was wrong, disgusting and crude–one of the crudest things I recall him saying. Rush has a lot of flaws and fragility.
Nevertheless, it wouldn’t have changed my vote, and I still think Rush has and does many great things for our nation as he encourages and motivates people.
3) receiving sensitivity training from RightWingYahoo and IP727. — bruce
Have to ask. Was that the best you could find or the best you could afford? RWY, IP and yours truly have all gone off the deep end at times. But please, don’t subject yourself to the travails of OL for a minor transgression. If you look in the UN charter under human mental torture, OL’s picture is prominently displayed.

Hot Air comment:
someone at HA just said this:
There is good take away from these early numbers.
Clinton County is going 58% for Owens. They went 60% for Obama. No big suprise there.
Madison County is going 56% for Hoffman. They went 48% for Mccain, 49% for Obama.
We should be watching Madison county to look at wider district trends.

that’s an old comment

Come on Hoffman… If Christie can do it, so can you.
[17]
17% in
51 Owens
44 Hoffman

Remember that urban areas (democrats) come in before a lot of your rural areas (republicans) do. Thus the early returns should favor the democrat.

That is true, bc3b, intrade had Corzine at 80 earlier tonight.
[91]
2,400 with 54% in.
[92]
INC
What does yes vote mean in the ME vote?
Repeal same sex marriage?
[93]
That’s correct.
REJECT SAME-SEX MARRIAGE LAW
Yes 74802 50.51%
No 73292 49.49%
I hate it when things are worded backwards. It’s done on purpose.
[94]
Lot of votes left to count in NY
[95]
First time yes has been ahead all night, I think…
[96]
I’m tired. I think I’ll run to Dunkin Donuts for a dozen jelly filled.
[97]
Oh, add a dozen eclairs to that order MI
[98]
Hoffman just can’t pull closer.
[99]
There are some people who may avoid the news and not realize she dropped out. I am also wondering if there are some very local races and the possibility of voting a straight Republican ticket. Some may be dumb enough to do that.
Don’t give up yet. It’s a huge (geographically) district and stop watching Intrade (and if you do, please keep it to yourself).
[100]
Coffe or beeer with that eclair
[101]
I think we win the Trifecta.
[102]
Corzine was the PERFECT New Jersey candidate…and he appears to have lost!
He was:
- corrupt
- ineffective
- corrupt
- obnoxious
- corrupt
- self-funded ($22+ million on this campaign)
- corrupt
If a perfect candidate like Corzine can’t win in a mobbed up State…??
[103]
Thanks for the link MFG. A yes vote is against gay marriage. Looks like half the state are homos.
[104]
Coffee, I am watching my weight!
[105]
63% in, 4% down.
[106]
The NJ state bird is about to be changed to a barbecued turkey.
[107]
Looks like VA ends up 59%-41%
[108]
Daggett collapsed down to 5%
Looks like his support went back to Christie
[109]
What do you ask Gibbs tomorrow at the White House briefing?
Is Obama playing golf or basketball today?
[110]
DrDog… you need to go on the Obama stimulus diet… last month I lost and didn’t gain 10,005 pounds….so go have that Dunkin donut with that coffee and give yourself lots of credit for all the weight you don’t gain….
[111]
Spin spin spin
[112]
judy – give them heck on thursday for all of us who can not be there.
[113]
MI, you wait. Obammy’s team will suddenly turn on the foreign affairs spigot in an attempt to distance themselves from the domestic disaster that has chimed in. Somehow though I don’t think kissing more butt cleans up the loss.
[114]
If you noticed the ugly congress woman, she referred to Hoffman as the “extreme right wing candidate.” Democrats always define Republicans. Republicans say things like” My opponent would make a fine President.”
The people hate Nancy Pelosi. The GOP needs to campaign against her. Hoffman should have. “A vote for Owens increases Nancy Pelosi’s power, which will increase your taxes and place a huge financial burdon on your children.”
[115]
Judy,
Excellent diet.
[116]
The White House refused comment, and instead sent out Debbie Whatsaman Shultz to spin her way around two crushing defeats in NJ and VA. She hung on to the very thin reed of NY23 and the small lead of the dem there.
As MIcon says, “spin, spin, spin.”
[117]
Erick Erickson’s Twitter:

# Just talked to ppl close to Hoffman. They think he’s won. Owens votes in. Their sampling tracks with what we’re seeing.10 minutes ago from TweetDeck
Remember he said 3 counties don’t report online. One won’t report until tomorrow.
[118]
I suspect you are right.
I’m sure he’ll say it was a great Dem victory.
Gotta get to sleep. I guess I’ll catch up in the AM.
Night all.
[119]
MI Con – good night patriot.

Judy’s favorite diet food is Glenlivet and ice.
[121]
Here’s an update from R.S. McCain. I think he’s in NY right now:
[122]
Good ni’ MI Conservative. Sweet conservative dreams to you.
[123]
The Lass has great taste in diets.

I agree. Owens votes are likely freom the cities. Hoffman is stronger in small towns and farm country.
I am not enthusiastic, but I am cautiously optomistic. My guess is the rest of the vote will be slow in coming in.
[125]
From Campaign Spot:
What’s that about pride going before a fall?
[126]
bc, yes, but I don’t like being on edge.
[127]
Corzine just conceded defeat! Yikes!
He has spent over $100 MILLION of his OWN money getting elected there in the last elections!
If I spent $100 MILLION dollars getting elected ANYTHING, I would spend it getting elected permanent Emporer of Tahiti (or some such). New eff’ing Jersey????
geez
[128]
Have not read all the comments in this thread yet but Hoffman looks like toast in NY-23.
[129]
INC –
It’s gonna be a long night.
[130]
Yes, that is horrible.
Stupid R party, stupid Watertown commie rag.
Stupid voters who wanted their taxes raised and socialist medicine.
[131]
Here’s the counties not fully in, from NY-23
Lewis 6/31
Oneida 12/22
Oswego 64/124
Saint Lawrence 41/102
Hoff would have to carry these by 60% or more to close the gap.
[132]
Maybe not
He’s trending up on Intrade and there are still a lot of votes left to count
Whatever the result PPP polling sure is crap, isn’t it?
[133]
From RCP (via a HA commenter):
[134]
I see no way Hoffman wins this without say 5000 mil votes with a 70/30ish split.
He’s done I think. Sorry guys.
[135]
Fulton which was not going to report till tomorrow has already reported… sounds like the hoffman people are out of touch frankly.
[136]
Who’d a thunk it
And if that’s the way it plays out, we’ll just go get the seat back in 2010
[137]
Erick’s now gone pessimistic–saying it looks like Hoffman will lose.
[138]
Maybe the Rush Limbaugh comments hurt…???
[139]
the media Spin-meisters are already declaring that New Jersey NEVER mattered, and Virginia NEVER mattered…but damn, how about that NY-23, heh?
the REAL indictment is on the morons who chose DeDe Scuzzy to begin with!
[140]
Last week, would you have taken wins in NJ and VA, and a narrow loss in NY23?
I would.
I am thrilled with tonight’s results.
Still hoping for the trifecta.
[141]
MFG – Did you have to go there.. not I don’t think they hurt, too late to hurt anyway.
Dede hurt look at the numbers.
[142]
I think Rush Limbaugh’s comments did it, if this does turn out to be a loss
Bestiality…???
Just like I think the fat jokes blew up in Corzine’s face
[143]
“Still hoping for the trifecta.”
—
There will not be one. However I’m fine with Hoffman losing, I mean I wanted him to win but more important frankly was for Doo-doo to lose. We’ll come back next fall get Owens.
[144]
KH
Yeah, I had to go there
Hoffman was asked about those comments and didn’t repudiate them, and I think a lot of women thought, “Wow, what an asshole.”
Yeah, I think that did it
[145]
The bestiality thing never made it into that race at the local level, stop looking for boogie men.
[146]
MFG – this is not Rush’s fault. The blame can and should be put on the GOP. They were the ones who screwed the pooch by putting up the democrat as a republican.
[147]
No, it sucks that Hoffman lost, and the NRCC sucks, and the people in the district have not been punished enough, I guess. Some of them have had enough.
But Owens is not a blue-dog, he openly states he will vote to kill grandma.
And they voted for him.
[148]
KH
Why not look for boogie men?
This is a bizarre loss which shouldn’t have happened
Limbaugh was an asshole to have said those things and Hoffman didn’t repudiate them and I think it upset a lot of people
Give me another explanation for this bizarre loss
[149]
again…the only indictment in NY-23 was the morons who chose DeDe Scuzzy.
period!
[150]
Let’s wait for the final count, It looks like Hoffman will lose narrowly.
Damn, that’s a downer.
[151]
This shouldn’t have been a loss, this is a very strange result considering the VA and NJ tidal waves
[152]
he’s only 4,000 votes down, and several Republican districts are still to report. but percentage-wise he is toast.
Still…we don’t have the Scuzzy sitting in Congress with an (R) voting pure (D). THAT is worth sumthin!
[153]
Limbaugh was an asshole to have said those things and Hoffman didn’t repudiate them and I think it upset a lot of people
Well, so they responded by voting to kick themselves in the crotch another year with a communist rep?
[154]
People are funny about stuff like that
I’m convinced the fat jokes put Christie over the top in NJ
[155]
We won a close race in NJ and lost a close race in NY.
The important point was made to the establishment you can’t win by running pieces of chit. Add dede+hoffman votes, as of how you get win, still close, but remember the dems had this ny-23 race planned and funded well before we ever did. The gop fumbled the ball and once we got it back we got out played on the ground, it also didn’t help that Dede stabbed us back on the 5 yard line either, but one could say we should have expected that.
[156]
I don’t always agree with MFG, but I thought the “beastiality” comment was over the line. And, those of you who regularly follow BJG know, I don’t consider a lot of things to be out of bounds.
But, I think this demonstrates once again a third party approach doesn’t work. The time to get RINOs is in the primary (of course, there wasn’t a primary in NY23).
[157]
Screw it, we’ll go get ‘em next year and take the seat back
Tonight is still a wonderful victory for conservatism
[158]
MFG – why does anyone have to repudiate Rush? When was the last time the left EVER repudiated one of their own – NEVER.
Rush is not the reason, the GOP shot themselves in the foot to start this whole mess.
[159]
NY-23 was about taking the GOP elites to the woodshed, not the Democrats. NJ and VA took care of that for us. A NY-23 win would have been icing on the cake, but an unambiguous message was sent.
[160]
Those were made by the candidate, in a commercial run all over NJ by the candidate, trust me it got alot more play and it was over several weeks, I don’t think it was the determining factor especially if you look at the polling streaks during when that erupted – it actually seemed to help corzine for a bit.
[161]
Another setback for the Lions. Had Christie lost, he was going to sign with the team and be on the offensive line. They were going to run the plays around him.
[162]
“A NY-23 win would have been icing on the cake, but an unambiguous message was sent.”
—
Bingo just as we said two weeks ago.
[163]
“That great New Jersey life.” Am I missing something?
[164]
LOL bc3b!
[165]
GN
I agree with Rush about 98% of the time, but those comments were disgraceful, it’s not a question of repudiating him, it’s a question of did this cost us the race
This is a VERY bizarre result considering the ruinous losses the Communists suffered in VA and NJ
[166]
Now we will hear that Beck and Palin are to blame for Hoffman’s loss.
This sucks. Try again next year, run against a liberal dem, nothing else you could ask for.
[167]
Christie just botched a line in his speech..lol
[168]
hte ONLY encouraging note for Hoffman, is that his vote margin (3,000+ votes) remains fairly constant. I do believe he is toast…but I don’t know the districts up there.
this link show the breakdown…
http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/files/elections/2009/by_county/NY_US_House_1103.html?SITE=NYSAR&SECTION=POLITICS
[169]
“Now we will hear that Beck and Palin are to blame for Hoffman’s loss. ”
—
we know they are not, don’t sweat it.
[170]
No, we should have won this race. The people of NY 23 have merely screwed themselves…..
[171]
Screw sending messages
Winning is the only thing that counts
“Wow, we only lost by five points!” is chump bullshit loser talk
[172]
It’s down to 3% with 24% of the vote left. It’s a longshot, but it’s not over.
[173]
Ca-10 starting to come in now.
[174]
We’ll just go get ‘em a year from now
[175]
I lived in NJ for almost two years. Aside from the corruption, rudeness and Newark, it’s not too bad.
In NJ you always know where you stand–people scorn you or love you with no middle ground.
[176]
JR – yeah it was close, and we lost a close race that polling indicated could have easily been reversed. I’m wondering if a number of people stay’d home thinking it was in the bag and the D’s out ground gamed us up there, not like Hoffman had 6 months to prep.
[177]
Right. Still though.
[178]
The people of NY 23 have merely screwed themselves…
Yep. They’ll wise up when this Obamaconomy knocks them around a little more. Wait and see what happens when the Army base in the district is closed to pay for more TARP bailouts and medicare for all.
[179]
“Winning is the only thing that counts”
—-
Really then why didn’t we all back the piece of chit selected RINO?
Because sometimes* (rare as it may be) winning isn’t all that matters.
I could almost care less if nancy has one more vote in the house, it’s not going to to matter, at least she doesn’t have one more sellout R to vote with her and claim bi-partisan ship.
[180]
the Dem machine will spin NY-23 as the only true “referendum” on Obama…and Oh Lordie look, Obama WON!
Hoffman was not a dynamic candidate, but his heart/head are in the right place. DeDe was a DISASTER as a candidate…and the morons who chose her should be tarred & feathered!
[181]
p.s. Corzine lost by 100,000 votes…that’s just outside the Theft-Zone.
[182]
I really hate people that blame Rush. He is such a better American than anyone on this frigging thread. You go on the air 15 hours a week for 20 years and keep Ronald Reagan alive. You guys are butt breath wimps compared to him. Shame on you.
[183]
Yup.. I was thinking if it was 50k or less he would insist on counting the mail ballots (aka to his advantage, + fraud).
[184]
Hey easy with that wide paint brush Bruce.
[185]
ps.
“10,000 absentees, cast while Hoffman was surging and before Scozzawhatesherbutt endorsed Owens.”
—
Not that I think it will make the difference.
[186]
brucefdb…”butt breath wimps”? I don’t even know what that MEANS!
Still, I for one do NOT think ANY Limbaugh comment cost Hoffman this election. And agree 100% with Limbaugh’s beneficial contribution to Conservative thought and action.
So I want to officially reject the title of “butt breath wimp”, for myself, at least!
[187]
Agree with Bruce here. Blaming Rush is a BS. Rush was using rich metaphorical language that was right on the mark. If we have to second guess everything we say the communists have won, even if they lose. The blame lies squarely on the GOP for backing a DIABLO (Democrate In All But Label Only) in the first place.
[188]
If the shoe fits wear it, KH. Aint a wide paint brush.
Ca-10 not lookin good so far…..17% uppforthe bad guy.
[189]
Yeh, blaming Rush is BS and it’s jumping on the lib bandwagon. I heard reports of his remark, then I heard him say it and thought. BFD.
[190]
It may be better even if Owens wins because Dede made no promises other than voting with the GOP through the current cycle had she won. Obama could have easily bought her.
[191]
i live in CA…I don’t think the polls have officially closed yet.
[192]
I meant to add those are not counted yet.
[193]
There will not be one. However I’m fine with Hoffman losing, I mean I wanted him to win but more important frankly was for Doo-doo to lose. We’ll come back next fall get Owens.
If memory serves, NY-23 gets redistricted in 2010.
[194]
”
If the shoe fits wear it, KH. Aint a wide paint brush.”
—-
YOU might want to scroll up and see who was the first in the thread to reject the idea.
[195]
MM has a link to a TV station out of Syracuse, WSYR:
Fulton County machines break; court order issued
Vote tally: http://www.9wsyr.com/content/vote/default.aspx
[196]
Hey….just emoting guys….this is gonna be a long trek for us the next year….I’m off to bed hooping for the best. But bad mouthing Rush is sort of like saying McCain is our only hope.
[197]
Only 3 counties left with any hope for Hoff –
Lewis
Oswego
Saint Lawrence
[198]
Ok. Night bruce, we are in agreement.
“The Board of Elections says they do not know how many people voted, but there are 22 districts in Fulton County. ”
–
Odd since 20 of the 24 listed districts have reported no?
[199]
Hoffman is down by 4% now. It looks like it’s over.
[200]
KH……I didnt say you were wearing it! I was just responding to your comment. We aint gonna win anything if we start tearing down the Rush’s and the Palins.
[201]
Good night Bruce. In the future I think you and MFG should take it off-line. I realize you are a big supporter of Rush, but denigrating everyone on this thread is not a way to win an argument. Just saying.
Hopefully tomorrow we’ll all wake up to good news.
[202]
Thanks INC. Conflicting info
[203]
KH, I have no idea what’s going on. That TV report said
Last Update: 11:36 pm.
Perhaps the breakdown occurred in only a few precincts.
[204]
“I didnt say you were wearing it! ”
—
No, you’re right sir you didn’t.
[205]
My dream of dreams would for NY-23 to be dragged into court over shenanigans regarding Acorn. A big fat spot light on them this year would sure help us out 12 months from now.
[206]
I think Bob Beckel may be fatter than Chris Christie. In fact, I’m sure he is.
[207]
Yeah maybe like 9 machines total in 2-3 districts and they’ve reported the rest.
Still it’s not much more then maybe + a couple hundred for hoffman in my estimation.
[208]
Wow. 6000 people voted for DooDoo. Learn something everyday. So says some voters aren’t stupid?
[209]
Well, how ironic that Joe went to NY-23 and Obama went to NJ.
[210]
Hoff can’t make it now. The two counties remaining are almost evenly split with 50% reported in. No room to make up the gap. Sigh…
[211]
The homos might lose this one.
[212]
Someone said tonight that NY23 covers about a quarter of the state’s geography. The largest city is Watertown (20,000 population).
[213]
I still prefer Owens winning over Dede.
[214]
I don’t know why Rush Limbaugh has to be worshiped
He was wrong to say what he said, you know it, I know it, we all know it
It didn’t help and it was dumb
Why can’t we just admit that?
[215]
“I don’t know why Rush Limbaugh has to be worshiped”
—
He doesn’t. He just doesn’t need to be blamed for things that he shouldn’t be.
[216]
It didn’t hurt why can’t we just admit that.
[217]
“Someone said tonight that NY23 covers about a quarter of the state’s geography.”
—
That’s about right 20-25% probably, in land mass anyway.
[218]
It was wrong, it was stupid, and it can’t POSSIBLY have helped
Dear God, you are contentious at times
[219]
Showered and refreshed….187….201…mpt….make up your mind. So Northern California.
Ha, ha, just kidding Mike. I’m probably too blue collar for this site.
[220]
MFG….who has saved the party since the pansies took over in 1988 you dumb friggin moron?
[221]
MFG, I guess we just have to disagree on this. I certainly don’t worship Rush, but him saying Scuzzy screwed RINOs (metaphorically calling it bestiality) was being both accurate and colorful. As BCL, said “BFD”.
[222]
As I said, I agree with Rush Limbaugh 98% of the time
However, when he deserves criticism I think we should criticize him
Unless he is to be our Obama, The One We Never Criticize
His comments were stupid, dumb, wrong, uncharitable, ugly and couldn’t POSSIBLY have helped
And you know that even if you won’t admit it
[223]
Here is some good news.
‘zero’ campaigned in New Jersey and his man lost.
‘zero’ campaigned in Virginia and his man lost.
‘zero’ did not campaigned in NY-23 and the democrat won.
‘zero’ was 0 for 3.
Maybe ‘zero’ will stay hidden throughout 2010 to save the democrats.
[224]
Rush need not be worshipped, and perhaps he could have chosen his words more carefully, but having said that- this was a non-story turned into a story by an opportunist.
[225]
“Dear God, you are contentious at times”
–
Yeah I can be quite the pain in the arse huh. lol
[226]
How is ca-10 looking any numbers in yet?
[227]
Bruce, I don’t disagree with what you said and I understand your enthusiasm for Rush. It’s just that calling us all “butt breath wimps” saying that Rush is a better American than everyone else on this thread (without knowing our own personal stories) is looking to pick a needless fight. Let’s save that for the communists.
[228]
“His comments were stupid, dumb, wrong, uncharitable, ugly and couldn’t POSSIBLY have helped”
—
His comments were on target, humorous, and I would argue fairly charitable.
It is not his job to help candidates, his job is to entertain and inform – unless you believe the left that he’s the head of the party, which it sound like you do.
[229]
Dude,
I’ve been in sales for almost 30 years now and I know how to motivate, convince and persuade people
People buy emotionally and they vote emotionally
And I KNOW how females reacted to those comments of his
Just like fat guys in New Jersey reacted to Corzine
“Oh, that’s how you feel, OK, I’ll show you in the ballot box.”
[230]
PS.. {ot – kinda} look like even ? is ready to give up on Steele. Miracles apparently do happen.
[231]
MFG you have no proof what so ever comments by a radio host against a traitor candidate that wasn’t going to win no matter what and who had already dropped out had any effect on this election. Your 30 years in sales as useful as I’m sure that is doesn’t change what went on in NY-23.
[232]
Look Mike, I started the comment with “I really hate people that blame Rush”. Is there part of that you dont understand?
Ciao and all the best, I am too blue collar.
[233]
I think this result stinks to high heaven
Why, with all of this Republican dominance tonight does Hoffman lose this race?
I think 2,000-2,500 women in that electorate heard of these comments and thought, “You know what, I’ll fix your ass at the ballot box.”
And that was the margin of victory
I have no proof, but that’s what I think
[234]
hey, two HUGE wins tonight…one close loss. I thought we’d go 2:1…I just thought New Jersey would be the loss!
as for CA-10, they’re holding actual results until 10:00 p.m.
[235]
Last to MFG, I took a Software Consulting Division from last to first in one year….which allowed me to retire young…I did it by removing non productive spending. The customer wants results at the best price.
[236]
Wow, we are in trouble in 2010 if after a night like tonight we are already on each other’s throats.
[237]
I do not believe Rush’s negative comments hurt more than his POSITIVE comment helped! Thus on balance I believe he made it closer than it would have been.
DeDe’s active backing of Owens may have had a greater effect than we thought.
Add in the fact that on each ballot, Owens appeared TWICE, and DeDe appeared TWICE…but Hoffman only appeared ONCE. Only in New York, folks!
[238]
People are stupid Bruce
They buy emotionally and they vote emotionally
It would be best if we stopped doing imbecilic things like referring to bestiality when discussing unattractive women
Counterproductive doesn’t even begin to describe things like that
[239]
the people of NY-23 get to live with their choice…and the effects of their choice. If they were so stoopid as to switch from Hoffman to Owens on the basis of ONE comment from Limbaugh…they woulda switched anyway.
Peace!
[240]
MP
We’re not at each other’s throats
It’s OK
We’ll go get ‘em next year
[241]
We’ll go get ‘em next year
Agreed. I’m more hopeful of that than I’ve been in quite a while.
[242]
I’m going to bed…being a total early-bird!
Yes, the media will turn NY-23 into the GOP’s Hindenburg (Oh, the humanity!)…but the real story tonight was New Jersey!
Oh, and the massive win in Virginia will indeed give the Dems serious pause. A good night, regardless of CA-10.
cheers all!
[243]
“Wow, we are in trouble in 2010 if after a night like tonight we are already on each other’s throats.”
—
Exactly what I’m thinking.
[244]
“I’m more hopeful of that than I’ve been in quite a while.”
—
I’m not. The more voter interviews i see the more “give me” leeches I hear, maybe I just need to ignore the NJ voters. uhhh.
[245]
“Add in the fact that on each ballot, Owens appeared TWICE, and DeDe appeared TWICE…but Hoffman only appeared ONCE. Only in New York, folks!”
—
I wasn’t aware of that, why was that if anyone knows?
[246]
The more voter interviews i see the more “give me” leeches I hear, maybe I just need to ignore the NJ voters.
They’re all over California as well. We can only hope that enough eyes can be opened before it’s too late. I have been thinking we already passed that point, but perhaps not. That is reason a to be hopeful.
[247]
Sorry…..what????? geez
[248]
“enough eyes can be opened before it’s too late”
—
I’m not optimistic but we’ll see what 2010 brings… seem to me like a make or break for the future, last chance to plug the dike. They all seem to seem that way, but this coming one far more so then usual.
[249]
273.Here is a great article on how your personal liberty and freedom have a great deal to do with the quality of the Health Care you receive:
http://andrews.blogtownhall.com/2009/11/03/public_funding_is_government_control.thtml
Yes, liberty does really matter in the real world and not just in the abstract…..
And if a conservative or Republican politican can articulate this in terms people can understand then shame on him – its not that hard to explain or grasp….
[250]
So our score card is –
VA — Big Win
NJ — Big Win
NY23 — Big Loss
CA10 — Small Loss
The huge spread in VA and the Got in the Lead and stayed there for Christie was a big signal. NY23 was a downer for sure. The unanswerable question is would Hoff’s loss been bigger without the Teas and endorsements? CA10 looked as expected. But Harmor did pretty well considering. Did not quite break into single digits on the spread. But it does show even Dims are vulnerable in what are traditionally safe seats.
The theme if ya want to win in 2010 — “Its the economy stupid!”
[251]
Ace has infor about how Scuzzy threw the election to the dem, because Owens beat the hell out of Hoffman in her home town area.
The lesson is there for the GOP, but will they learn it? I wonder. Newt may be doing “I told you sos” today, the bastard.
We needed this one, badly. Not sure I’d trade it for NJ, though, in fact I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t since we get another crack at it in a year.
But still, it sucks. Hoffman had too many people slamming him, and it was just enough to beat him, poor guy.

[253]
It would be best if we stopped doing imbecilic things like referring to bestiality when discussing unattractive women
Like mpt said, he was referring to screwing RINOs, not ugly women. He was not suggesting ugly women were beasts.
It’s comments like that that feed the fire of lib bias against conservatives. They see that remark and figure they’re justified in their hatred. They figure they don’t even have to actually listen to Rush, Beck, Hannity, etc. since there is a consensus on the left and the right regarding them. Sheesh…
[254]
I agree, Yahoo.

****** IMPORTANT COMMENT ******

We are all political brothers and sisters here
You fight with your brothers, you fight with your sisters
But at the end of the day they are your brothers and sisters
Ocassionally remarks that might be considered to be intemperate are said
I’ve done that a time or two myself (!!)
Don’t worry about it
[258]
Bruce,
I appreciate your mea culpa, but for my part, not necessary.
All the best,
Mullet

PS Bruce,
Does you cat like the taste of fish? If so, please keep him restrained should we have in person meetings regarding the above dispute.
Thanks,
Mullet

Justrand mentioned:
“Add in the fact that on each ballot, Owens appeared TWICE, and DeDe appeared TWICE…but Hoffman only appeared ONCE. Only in New York, folks!”
I saw a copy of the sample ballot at R. S. McCain yesterday. I was shocked to see that. I should have mentioned it, but I forgot. I did some searching (not a huge amount), but couldn’t find out why.
Owens was listed as a Democrat and Working Families.
Dede was listed as a Republican and Independent.
Hoffman was listed only once, as a Conservative.
I’ve never seen or heard of anything like it.
[263]
Bruce, I don’t think there’s any need to limit yourself to emoticons.
Speaking as a woman, I thought what Rush said was wrong, disgusting and crude–one of the crudest things I recall him saying. Rush has a lot of flaws and fragility.
Nevertheless, it wouldn’t have changed my vote, and I still think Rush has and does many great things for our nation as he encourages and motivates people.
