The Cost of Freedom
A Taxpayer Revolt! It’s one of our dreams…and used to be a persistent nightmare of our voracious Federal and State governments.
They struggled with this, off and on, almost from the very founding of our nation. How to collect a steady, and increasing, stream of income from the citizens without having them say that most fearsome of words: “NO!”
Enter the “Tax Payment Act of 1943”, better known to you and I as “Withholding”. As Treasury official Randolph Paul “sold” it during Congressional hearings in 1943:
“The tax has been broadened to reach many millions of additional taxpayers with small incomes and little experience in planning their finances to meet large bills at infrequent intervals. … A suitable pay-as-you-go method will be of great assistance to millions of persons.”
One Senator spoke more honestly remarking that “revenues need to be pried out of the taxpayers.”
People tried to increase their exemptions to decrease their withholding…a minor “revolt” or simply personal necessity…and so the government layered on penalties and legal prosecutions.
Of course, the government has no problem REVERSING this technique! California now begun INCREASING every wage-earner’s withholding…not as a “tax”, but as an “interest free loan to the State”. Whatever amount you would normally have had “withheld” will be incresed by 10%…and there is not a damn thing you can do about it. I expect other States will follow our lead. [p.s. they "promise" to repay us...most likely with "I-O-U"s]
A “tax payer revolt”? From the sheeple all penned up and waiting to be sheered?
The Cost of Freedom? Whatever the pen cost that Franklin Roosevelt used to sign the “Tax Payment Act of 1943” into law. For with a stroke from that pen he sold a massive chunk of your freedom down the river.

If we had to write checks every paycheck for what they take out vs seeing the end result which we take to the bank, you can bet that a revolt would have come long ago. How much longer can this go on, honestly? Especially in CA.

I have this mental picture of Californians being held up by their ankles, and their last few coins falling out of their pockets into a wheelbarrow pushed by Arnold.

That giant sucking sound you hear is the vacuum created by those heading east from Kalifornicate. Keep a flotation device in your backyard, in case the fault line gives way.
[4]
actually the “sound” you hear is Governors in other States smacking their foreheads saying: “Hey…why didn’t WE think of that??”
and just wait until Gietner smacks HIS forehead and says the same thing!
I’m telling ya folks, this 10% THEFT on top of the current THEFT is getting ZERO PLAY out here. Almost no ones knows about it. If the Kalifornia people take this meekly…and they are…then EVERY OTHER STATE is going to try something just like it. And then the Feds too!
Get ready

And if they take too much, at the end of the year there will be one big suck as the funds go back as refunds.

ip…refunds?? We all expect the State to find some “excuse” to “limit” those!

It is better to owe than to receive in the near future, I think. Hubby and I are actively trying to reduce our debt so that we can afford to bring in less pay. The less we bring in, the less taxes we pay. I imagine that more are thinking along those same lines.

The plucking of this thread bare goose that laid the golden egg,is coming to an end. Galt the bastids. If just 20% of the doctors closed their door for 1 day a week, they could bring this power grab to it’s knees.
