Voting Present Won’t Get You Through the OODA Loop
Wednesday night AllahPundit had a post titled, Senior White House official gloats: “We’re 2-0 against Palin” now. I had to laugh when I read his opening:
Since Axelrod’s been all over the place today, I’m going to assume he’s Tapper’s source here. In which case, how interesting that he chose to offer this particular bon mot anonymously.
To paraphrase Limbaugh, she’s living rent-free in their heads.
This reminded me of USAF Colonel John Boyd and the OODA loop. Last year the concept was applied to McCain and Obama, but I don’t think McCain was the one inside Obama’s OODA loop. Sarah Palin was, and is, the one who rattles his cage and shakes him up. I don’t know who made the comparison first, but it’s true, she’s right there in his OODA loop much the same way Rush has always been inside the Democrats’ OODA loop.
Now, I realize I’m way out of my expertise writing about this and some of you military guys (after you’re done laughing) can correct me, but I wanted to do this post because the connection with Sarah Palin and what I do understand of the OODA loop is fascinating.
In FORTY SECOND BOYD AND THE BIG PICTURE (Part 1), Bill Whittle explains the OODA loop:
…Boyd’s breakthrough was to realize that there are three mental steps that precede the physical application of a warrior’s skill, and that these mental steps are not as important as the physical talent. They are far, far more important.
Observe.
Orient.
Decide.
Act.Then Observe.
Orient.
Decide.
Act.Then Observe…
It’s a cycle. It’s a loop. It’s called by its inelegant acronym: The OODA loop.
A chart of the OODA Loop from Boyd’s Last Briefing is found at Chet Richards and Wikipedia has another copy.
According to Boyd, decision-making occurs in a recurring cycle of observe-orient-decide-act. An entity (whether an individual or an organization) that can process this cycle quickly, observing and reacting to unfolding events more rapidly than an opponent, can thereby “get inside” the opponent’s decision cycle and gain the advantage.
Do you see why this is so interesting? Sarah Palin has made so many moves and so many decisions that were unexpected and effective, she’s been going through Observe Orient Decide Act constantly and rapidly. The gal who played point guard has her brain wired to do the OODA loop. The guy who has a past of voting present, well, he’s still working on getting to the D.
No wonder they can’t get her out of their heads.

Obama was far more involved in the Corizine effort, having spent much of the weekend in NJ, than Sarah Palin was in in NY23 (2-3 Facebook messages). With the current administration, it’s non-stop spin 24/7. Worst of all, rather than objectively calling out the administration for the deception, the media is assisting in the propaganda coverup.

I guess I’m going to have to stop posting here.
Yesterday I spelled jugular-juggler.
A week ago I wrote about getting the swine flu from a dog. Now ABC Good Morning America had the first case of an animal giving a human the flu or vice-versa. So my facts are wrong there.
I was criticized at work for dropping letters when I talk and saying the UP “eh” when I speak. I write like that on here. I write like I talk evidently. nuttin’=nothing Something=somethin’.
I thought the GOP had a great night Tuesday and now after reading the paper and watching TV I have found out they had a horrible night and continue there downward spiral.
I thought Palin was a help for my issues and now Axelrod told me she’s hurting conservatives and the GOP.

“WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The U.S. Senate Environment and Public Works Committee on Thursday approved a Democratic climate change bill that would require industry to cut emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases 20 percent by 2020 from 2005 levels.
With Republicans boycotting the committee’s work saying more analysis of the legislation was needed, 10 Democrats voted to approve the legislation and one Democrat, Senator Max Baucus, voted against it.
The bill will now become one of several initiatives aimed at attacking global warming. Senator John Kerry is leading an effort with some Republicans and the White House to craft a compromise bill, which likely would not be voted on by the full Senate until next year at the earliest.”

Another bill that should die quietly over the holiday break.

It’s a Call To Arms, Patriots!
Barbara Boxer just ignored senate precedent and passed the Cap and Tax bill out of committee without a single vote from the minority. These people are insane, and their agenda is insane, and they are taking insanity to a new level.
They need to be put away in a rubber room to destroy each other, and leave the rest of America alone.
The Republicans, according to Imofe, were waiting for an EPA study to determine the cost. Boxer wouldn’t allow it. She cares not what it cost.
Nuts.

At this point comments like this are just becoming hilarious.
Grow up Mr. President.

By the second paragraph we get to unemployment is still going up. You just can’t spin the economy to the 17% (true unemployment) of Americans sitting at home wondering how they are going to pay their bills.

New jobless claims drop to lowest since January
But companies are still reluctant to hire as the economy recovers slowly
WASHINGTON – The number of newly laid-off workers filing claims for unemployment benefits last week fell to the lowest level in 10 months, evidence that job cuts are easing as the economy slowly heals.
Still, companies are reluctant to hire and economists expect the unemployment rate will tick up to 9.9 percent when October’s figure is reported Friday. The jobless rate hit a 26-year high of 9.8 percent in September.

MI, LOL.
Funny thing about Palin. She’s in their heads in spite of the OODA construct.
Now if Palin REALLY wanted to get in their heads, she ought to go after Michael Steele’s job. The Left would go busting insane. Rather than one target to attack they would see visions of hundreds of Palinheads running for office in 2010 with the Teas owning the ground game. Bob Beckel would have a heart attack right there on Hannity’s show with that announcement.

I am serious as a heart attack. An outraged Imofe was interviewed on Fox just a few minutes ago.
Maybe I am the insane one. Or getting there.

More ammo for Boxer’s challengers.
“Economists expect the nation lost a net total of 175,000 jobs last month, adding to the 7.2 million lost since the recession began in December 2007″
—
Bottom line 175k additional jobs were lost in October.
[21]
Senator Inhofe on FOX this morning said they passed it without a single minority member being present. It was the first time something like that has happened in that committee.
[22]
JM, no matter to me on the time.
HA had a video a day or two back of Boxer sitting her meeting alone as the Reps boycotted and the other members of the committee were conveniently ‘out to lunch’. Goes par for the course with Boxer.
[23]
Give her a loaded lugar, lock her in a room, and hope she does the honorable thing.
[24]
So here comes my next question- what can be done about this in the here and now? Boxer will get the boot, yes….but I mean before that.
[25]
“Senator Inhofe on FOX this morning said they passed it without a single minority member being present. It was the first time something like that has happened in that committee.”

I hope our side is keeping track of all the violations of standard protocol that the Dems are not following. If we ever get the senate back we must remember to return the favor – screw the dem and media screaming bloody murder.

“Boxer will get the boot”

What gives you that impression? I mean Fiorina or DeVore may have a shot in hell, but that’s about all it is at the moment.

There are probably enough senators from coal/energy producing states to filibuster it.If all this garbage goes through, expect a 5000 DOW.
[28]
I think people have had enough of her. PLUS, those creating the campaign ads will have plenty of fodder to work with. She is a racist bigot with absolutely no concern for her constituents…..and there are hours upon hours of footage to back that statement up using her own words and actions.

Let the dimwits keep at it. Payback is a ———
[30]
JM,
The saving grace is Boxer’s release cues the bill up. But the bill probably won’t make it to the floor for consideration at all this year.
The rate things are going this Congress will be known as the Constipation Congress. Much went in but it is all bound up in the colon.
[31]
Barbara Boxer just ignored senate precedent and passed the Cap and Tax bill out of committee without a single vote from the minority. These people are insane, and their agenda is insane, and they are taking insanity to a new level.
Or, it’s a sign they are reading the writing on the wall and they are now becoming desperate to get their agenda passed while they still have numerical superiority.
Also, I have to hand it to Boxer for having the guts to do this. “Wow, a Democrat broke Senate precedence for their own advantage?” Who the hell didn’t see this coming. You know what the consequences to Babs will be? Nothing! It irks the hell out of me that the patsy Republicans never did this stuff to get important stuff passed and get judges approved.
[32]
mulletover: “Barbara Boxer just ignored senate precedent and passed the Cap and Tax bill out of committee without a single vote from the minority.”
There is a reason they have Committees…and a reason for needing at least one vote from the minority Party, and Boxer ignored it all.
Will the media FINALLY do their job and howl about this? If they do not, then when, not IF, the Republicans get in charge I hope to hell they do the same damn thing! Of course the media will howl THEN. But screw ‘em.
We’re headed for pure One-Party Rule…and an INSANE Party to boot.
THIS is the actual photo from the “Hearing” she held on this topic. ONE other SEnator showed up (A Republican), and NO ONE ELSE! This is NOT a joke:

Seeing the light. . . .

She is a racist bigot with absolutely no concern for her constituents…
JM, don’t get your hopes up about Carly. She is every bit the “prima donna” Babs is — the definition of GOP elite RINOs that so many here rail against. Hopefully Doug Devore will be able to put on a good ground game to win the GOP nomination. Unfortunately, he’s looking to be underfunded at the moment.
[35]
p.s., yesterday one of the White House spinmeisters said: “Every poll has Obama in the MID to HIGH Fifties“. When it was pointed out that Rasmussen has him in the FORTIES, the spinmeister sneered: “Rasmussen is unrelieable”.
Reality…

RCP Average 51.0
Gallup 50
Rasmussen 48

I do not think the phrase: “Mid to High Fifties” means what he thinks it means!

It’s been a busy morning. A couple thoughts.
Where is this end to partisanship Pelosi and the Dims pledged in the 2006 elections.
Watching Bob Beckel on election night, if they ever do the Chris Christie story on TV Bob can play the leading role.
Don’t tou all realize the Dims really won Tuesday night. Pelosi said so. A$$holerod said so and MSM is trying to spin it enough so that everyone will believe it.
[39]
The more people who become his fan on Facebook, the more real time exposure he will get. He does need funding though. Hmmmm
[40]
I don’t see how the GOP can even entertain Fiorina as a candidate.
Were I the Dim candidate here’s my line of defense –
“Carly, please explain to the voter your role in the HP pretexting scandal. [Cut away to vid of her bumbling performance in front of the Senate committee.]
We’re waiting. ”
Game Over.
[41]
She is a racist bigot with absolutely no concern for her constituents.

I would prefer tickets on the front row.
[42]
Carley doesn’t look good until you compare her to Meg Whittman.
[43]
Football, Piglosi (hey!! pigskin lol) style.
If the Republicans and Democrats had a football game and the Republicans won 42-0, the media would by-pass the score and look for anything to spin away from their loss.
The greatest play of the game, according Democrats? Sarah Palin tackled DeDe Scozz and picked up the fumble. She made it all the way to the Democrat’s 2 yard-line, but because she didn’t score and increased the score 49-0, she’s a loser.
[44]
So true BC, but then I would vote for what was behind door number 3 rather than vote for Babs, Carly or Meg. All peas from the same pod.
[45]
“Or, it’s a sign they are reading the writing on the wall and they are now becoming desperate to get their agenda passed while they still have numerical superiority.”

My thoughts exactly.
[46]
Michele Bachmann will be addressing her DC Tea Party soon. Should make for an interesting lunch hour. I can hear the libs in the Dim Party and MSM criticizing her now.
[47]
JR: Inconceivable!
[48]
Fact what is it about American Politics that assume that because someone appeared successful in business that it is so? Whitman ran eBay for 8 years. They had great growth. Everyone assumes it was her management. Fact is since she has left the helm, practically every deal she had put together associated with eBay is being torn down by existing management due to lack of revenue.
[49]
Carley doesn’t look good until you compare her to Meg Whittman.
Carley is just one away from becoming Charley
[50]
Michele Bachmann – I like her balls, I think she should be majority leader, and no I’m not joking.
[51]
Carley … it would be a step up from what the residents of CA currently have in the senate, but that isn’t saying too much.
[52]
“HP pretexting scandal” – Frankly Dr.Dog while I understand the point, most voter in CA would yawn.
[53]
The more people who become his fan on Facebook, the more real time exposure he will get. He does need funding though.
Funny you should mention that. Before I saw your follow up to me I went over and became a fan of Doug Devore on Facebook. I also visited his website and saw your picture among his fans on Facebook. Small world.
[54]
KH, since I don’t live in CA you could be right. Generally around here a scent of impropriety derails candidates. Texas has had so many scandals, throwing out candidates with those labels is an automatic defensive mechanism.
[55]
I hear Chuck Devore is a pretty cool guy too.
[56]
Only the “big one” will change California politics. Are not all of the conservatives east of the fault line?
[57]
Oh and I saw your picture on his fan page! Well done!
[58]
drdog
From what I’ve heard about Carly Fiora is that, although she left HP under a shadow, most of her policies have been implemented which has directly effected the more vibrant position HP occupies today.
Do you disagree?
[59]
Only the “big one” will change California politics. Are not all of the conservatives east of the fault line?
I’m only a few hundred yards east of the San Andreas fault. If everything to the west slipped in — beach front property baby! Unfortunately, Justrand wouldn’t be so lucky as his beach view would be underwater.

Election result: Red-state Dems worried, rethink agenda
Via Drudge
A couple of observations: first, apparantly, both Politico and some Congressional Democrats aren’t buying into Pelosi’s “We won” stupidity
Second, I am getting the impression (by looking at the comment sections) that many Conservatives are using Politico. Either that or some of the moderates on that site have finally seen the light.
[61]
Chuck DeVore for United States Senate – 2010 Link
[62]
“that many Conservatives are using Politico.” — lol I doubt it, but some time on certain posts the cons come out in force in the comments area, typically though I usually see the libs infesting most stories to the point where I rarely bother now to look at the comments.
[63]
MP and JR,
I am way east of the fault over here in NC. I will leave the light on for you. Don’t be late leaving.
[64]
Just look at the race between Garamendi and Harmer. In the former you had a Kerry-like, boring candidate, who has accomplished nothing but growing an ego, who “lost” the only debate with his opponent –> Harmer.
Harmer, on the other hand was a candidate who was earnest, ran a personable, grass-roots campaign, was the decisive “winner” in the debate and lost by a 10+ point margin to Garamendi in the electin. So much for hosting all those good qualities. The majority just doesn’t care!
California is almost impossible territory for a true-blue conservative to win. There are just too many special interest groups leaching from entitlements here —> Unions, illegals, govt. employees etc.
[65]
“The majority just doesn’t care! ”
—
The majority in that SanFran district just doesn’t care, but we knew that already.
[66]
Jan, it is my understanding that Carly was very unpopular at HP. Not so much because she had to make tough, unpopular decisions for the good of the company, but because she largely let the company operations run on autopilot and was more concerned about hobnobbing with celebrities, fattening her own wallet, and deflecting blame for things that went wrong. When she left the HP the company was in very bad shape.
Carly claiming to be responsible for setting HP up for success would be like Carter claiming that he set up Reagan for success. Making decisions is one thing, having the wherewithal to see them implemented and carried out successfully is another. That is where Carly fell flat. The board members that fired her are smart business people and wouldn’t have fired her if she was doing a good job. They simply couldn’t take any more the BS and antics she threw up to avoid responsibility for being a total failure on the operational side of the business. If she was as good a CEO as she claims she would have been snapped up by another company very quickly.
As they say in Texas, Carly is all hat and no cattle. I guess she’ll be right at home in the Senate if she is elected.
[67]
As I have said all along, the neo msrxists seeing their opportunity slipping away, will work all the harder to cram this thing through come hell or highwater. It is whistling past the graveyard to think otherwise.
[68]
A big problem in CA is the electoral college. Because whoever wins the popular vote gets ALL 55 electoral college votes, the conservatives often don’t bother to vote all at. And ususally the election is “declared” over by the media long before our polls are closing. But when you look at issues like Prop 8, gay marraige, you see that conservatives are alive and well in CA, dispite San Fran. It is not impossible to image getting rid of Barbara Boxer.
[69]
Jan,
Frankly yes I would disagree. Look at her results.
* She recommended the spin off of a division of AT&T that became Lucent.
* She later was brought on board Lucent to manage it.
* In the space of her tenure shareholder value dwindled.
* End game, Lucent got bought by Alcatel. It is now a former shell of itself.
* Brought on board with HP.
* Proceeds to consummate a merger with Compaq.
* Proceeds to sell off the Medical Systems division.
* Proceeds to down play the Instruments division. (Where HP started I might add.)
* Compaq merger goes terribly wrong. Compaq is demoted to a brand, yet half of the HP laptop line is still a Compaq product.
* Again shareholder value becomes devalued.
* Pretexting scandal.
* Dismissed by the board.
She is a very smart woman. But the track record is not stellar. To be fair not all is necessarily managerial issues. Bell Labs as a spin off? Seriously BL was not meant to be a product source. So when it floundered I was not surprised. The HP problems were not all of her making either. The PC market was beginning to crater at the time she was taking the helm. She also had the old boy network to contend with in the company. Nor could she ever realign the power of the divisions in regards to their profit alignment to customer sales. No previous CEO was able to either.
Just my view having been a customer of both firms over the years. A CEO’s performance is a matter of shareholder value and EVA.

That why I posed the question to you because you seem to have the inside tech experience. I have no details, just a summary viewpoint I’ve heard from others.
Thanks for your input too, mp. That’s why I sometimes throw out such a question —> to be better informed!
[71]
There is also the question of HP selling to Iran during a U.S. trade embargo.
http://gawker.com/5349555/carly-fiorinas-iran-problem
Fiorina’s having a rough time of it. Her latest problem: defending herself against charges that HP made loads of money during her tenure by selling its products in Iran despite a U.S. trade embargo. “To her knowledge, during her tenure, HP never did business in Iran,” Fiorina’s campaign told the San Jose Mercury News.
Really? Fiorina had no idea? That’s odd, since…
Fiorina in 2003 noted Middle East sales were defying global trends, and, as the Merc notes, HP’s partner there issued a press release saying sales topped $100 million and that “the seeds of the Redington-Hewlett-Packard relationship were sowed six years ago for one market – Iran.”
Three of the three HP partners in the Middle East contacted by Christopher Stewart for a story in Portfolio magazine’s August 2008 issue readily agreed to ship printers to Iran. Portfolio notified HP of the incidents, but the company didn’t condemn them, instead refusing comment. Fiorina was gone as CEO at this point, but Portfolio noted that diversion of American products to Iran trough Dubai had been going strong for many years.
HP had an office in the Dubai free-trade zones notorious for funneling American goods to Iran, Portfolio reported — so it had ample means to be aware of how its products were being shipped.
After the SEC noticed the prevalance of HP products in Iran, it asked the company about the matter, and got back a letter from the company saying its Dutch subsidiary sold $120 million to Iran in 2008.
Finally, in January 2009, HP severed ties with Redington Gulf, the distributor that had publicly bragged about its Iran trade six years earlier.
