Surprise: Al Gore Lies

2009 December 10
by bc3b
The Australians actually wrote the headline to read, “Climategate: Gore Falsifies the Record.” Apparently, the former vice president wasn’t exactly telling the truth in his response to Sarah Palin. Of course, Andrea Mitchell didn’t ask any follow-up questions either because she didn’t want to expose Gore as a liar or, more likely, because Andrea is simply too damn dumb.
It’s interesting that while the elites are enjoying their five-star hotels, luxury limousines and caviar wedges in Copenhagen, a massive late fall snowstorm is leaving drifts of up to 15 feet in the central U.S. Oh well, it will soon be times for those wonderful people who are trying to save the world to board their private jets and leave a huge carbon footprint as they fly home, feeling self-rightous and self-assured.
Andrew Bolt writes:
Al Gore has studied the Climategate emails with his typically rigorous eye and dismissed them as mere piffle:

Q: How damaging to your argument was the disclosure of e-mails from the Climate Research Unit at East Anglia University?

A: To paraphrase Shakespeare, it’s sound and fury signifying nothing. I haven’t read all the e-mails, but the most recent one is more than 10 years old. These private exchanges between these scientists do not in any way cause any question about the scientific consensus.

And in case you think that was a mere slip of the tongue:

Q: There is a sense in these e-mails, though, that data was hidden and hoarded, which is the opposite of the case you make [in your book] about having an open and fair debate.

A: I think it’s been taken wildly out of context. The discussion you’re referring to was about two papers that two of these scientists felt shouldn’t be accepted as part of the IPCC report. Both of them, in fact, were included, referenced, and discussed. So an e-mail exchange more than 10 years ago including somebody’s opinion that a particular study isn’t any good is one thing, but the fact that the study ended up being included and discussed anyway is a more powerful comment on what the result of the scientific process really is.

In fact, thrice denied:

These people are examining what they can or should do to deal with the P.R. dimensions of this, but where the scientific consensus is concerned, it’s completely unchanged. What we’re seeing is a set of changes worldwide that just make this discussion over 10-year-old e-mails kind of silly.

In fact, as Watts Up With That shows, one Climategate email was from just two months ago. The most recent was sent on November 12 – just a month ago. The emails which have Tom Wigley seeming (to me) to choke on the deceit are all from this year. Phil Jones’ infamous email urging other Climategate scientists to delete emails is from last year.

How closely did Gore read these emails? Did he actually read any at all? Was he lying or just terribly mistaken? What else has he got wrong?

Meanwhile:

A gigantic storm buried much of America’s Midwest in snow and led to at least 16 deaths yesterday.

The weather system created blizzard conditions, burying cars under huge drifts.

Officials reported more than a foot of snow Des Moines, Iowa, and nearly 19 inches just south of Madison, Wisconsin.

Gusts of up to 50 mph created snow drifts up to 15 feet tall and even knocked down a two-story Christmas tree in downtown Champaign, Illinois.

Coal Company Cuts 500 Jobs; Blames Environmentalists

Chalk up another 500 to the list of jobs President Obama will need to create or save.

A Pittsburgh-based coal company, CONSOL Energy, will lay off nearly 500 of its West Virginia workers next year and its CEO blames environmentalists dead-set against mountaintop mining who have waged “nuisance” lawsuits for the job loss.

But CONSOL Energy’s political problems are not unique to the mining industry, which has suffered under the Obama Administration. The Environmental Protection Agency is already holding 79 surface mining permits in West Virginia, Kentucky, Ohio and Tennessee. The EPA says these permits could violate the Clean Water Act and warrant “enhanced” review. And, agency went even further in October, announcing plans to revoke a permit for the Spruce No. 1 Mine in West Virginia.

Surface mining and mountaintop removal are two of the least expensive ways to access large amounts of coal. Deep mining carries with it a whole plethora of problems, both in engineering and human resource. Company exposure to injury liabilities are huge, and given the option, companies will surface mine. Whether the Obama administration likes it or not, coal is essential to our energy resources and our economy, and the use of coal cannot be stopped in an instant.

The environmentalists have panic attacks anytime a surface mine is approved, and they begin shouting about deforestation and trout stream polution. What the public does not hear is the expense and effort that goes into reclamation of the area impacted by the mining operation. Look at any coal company balance sheet and you will find significant reserves set up for reclamation. It’s not perfect, but it’s not as bad as you hear.

West Virginia needs the jobs. The elites in Washington should look at the human tragedy they cause with their extremist carping.

IP is right. West Virginia is not being served by the two turds representing them in Washington.

Saw it yesterday Brian Baird (D, WA-03) is dropping out. Man is there some secret DNC internal poll that shows a 30 pt RNC advantage and Dims are heading for the exits before they get caught int he fire?

This is three retirements in the space of 30 days for them. At this rate we could have the entire Dim caucus flushed before the first ballot is cast in November. If only.

What happened to the time when people would question things? The thing that annoys me most isn’t Gore’s “do as I say” rhetoric, it’s the fact that a portion of the public will do exactly that.

and that’s a very flattering picture of Gore by the way. His low-carbon footprint diet seems to be working backwards as well these days.

dr dog, nuclear is definitely the future, but the wackos don’t want that either. I guess they will stay warm rubbing two sticks together.

You can’t escape the reality that over 50% of power generation currently comes from coal-fired plants. Natural gas is the quickest substitute, I guess.

Neither nuclear or natural gas is going to put groceries on the tables of West Virginia coal miners. You got to see it up close to believe the poverty. We take a lot for granted elsewhere in the US. Obama should spend a day in their shoes.

    Hope and Change.

    Mullet,

Seen the poverty, been thru there, though not lately.

But I don’t buy the ‘nukes, but not soon’ theory. The problem is one of will and engineering not science. If the chinese can envision that they will be bringing a 100 plants a years online by 2020 then by God we should be able to so as well. There is no reason that WV can’t be part of that effort to generate jobs and eliminate the poverty.

The environmentalists bring up pictures of what coal mining was like 100+
years ago, not as it is now.

Or even 50 years. But much has changed. WVA can’t take many more blows to it’s job market.

December 10, 2009 Posted by John at 7:31 AM
The Democrats’ effort to brand the Republicans as the “Party of No” has failed, but many conservatives have recommended that Republicans adopt the slogan for themselves. I would amend that advice by suggesting that Republicans complete the sentence: we are the Party of No More Stupid, Wasteful Government Programs that Take Away Our Freedom. That seems to be about where most voters are these days.

Al Sharpton Blasts Tiger Woods for Lack of Mistress Diversit

The Rev. Al Sharpton held a press conference today to blast Tiger Woods for the lack of diversity among his mistresses. Sharpton claims that the lack of African-American women among Woods’ harem will have a negative affect on the black community, specifically young black girls.

Why is it that a man who calls himself black can’t bring himself to cheat on his wife with a black woman?” said Sharpton, speaking to a group of supporters in Harlem. “What does it say to young black girls everywhere when you pass them over? Shame on you, Tiger Woods. What would your daddy say ?

Sharpton, who has long championed taking black women as mistresses, said that today’s black athletes need to stop neglecting black women when it comes to extramarital affairs, and should follow the examples of positive black role models such as Jesse Jackson and Martin Luther King, Jr., both of whom cheated on their wives with black women. Sharpton also stressed that cheating with African-American women would help the black community financially by giving black girls the chance to sell their stories to tabloids and gossip magazines.

Added Sharpton, “I’m not asking you to not cheat on your wives, I’m just asking you to give back to your own community.”
