Gore vs. Palin on Climate Change

2009 December 9

Here’s an article by Andrea Mitchell of NBC. Don’t worry; there’s no photo of Andrea.

Gee, I wonder who has more first-hand knowledge about what’s happening around the Polar Ice Cap – Al Gore and Lucy Graham or Sarah Palin?

In an interview that will air on MSNBC at 1:00 pm ET today, Al Gore rebutted Sarah Palin’s Washington Post op-ed and Facebook postings that question the science on climate change given the “Climate-gate” controversy.

In response, Gore said that “the deniers are persisting in an era of unreality. The entire North Polar icecap is disappearing before our eyes… What do they think is happening?”

He said we’ve seen record storms, droughts, fires — and the effects taking place are exactly as predicted by these scientists for years.

Asked about Palin’s charge on Facebook that these are “doomsday scare tactics pushed by an environmental priesthood,” Gore replied that the scientific community has worked on this issue for 20 years. “It’s a principle in physics. It’s like gravity. It exists.”

Gore attributed the partisan divide (in recent Pew polls) over climate change in part to the fact that people believed to be the leadership of the modern Republican Par ty has adopted a global-warming-denier attitude. He said that 100% of the people who changed their opinion about global warming are conservative, adding that climate change should be a bipartisan issue like it used to be. He cited Lindsey Graham as one example of a Republican leader who accepts the science.

Sarah has become like a one-woman wrecking crew (radio and TV appearances, op-eds, Facebook, Gridiron Dinner, etc.) She is leading the charge against global warming, ObamaCare, etc. living rent-free in Obama’s mind. Question: Where is the rest of the GOP? Another question: If she’s so insignificant and unqualified, why do people like Obama and Gore keep trying to refute her?

To paraphrase “?”: All Palin is going to do is “take the money and run.”

Here is another great article about what is at stake with CrappyCare!

    http://rightwingnews.com/2009/12/harry-reid-health-care-and-being-owned/?comments=show#comments

“Those who fight the health care legislation fear being owned. They fear that every personal decision from cradle to grave will be manipulated by a nameless, faceless bureaucrat in Washington D.C. They fear easily accessible files, not unlike the IRS, where a government employee can know every private piece of information about the citizen’s life. They fear health care decisions made for financial expedience. In short, those who fight against this health care bill, don’t want to be owned by the government.

So, it’s rich that Harry Reid calls those opposing the health care legislation as modern slavery defenders. Incredible, really. Harry Reid needs to look in the mirror. It is he who wants to control every aspect of a person’s health care life. If he has his way, the taxpayer will be paying for more programs with less quality.

Harry Reid is all about ownership…as long as the government owns and the taxpayer is enslaved.”

Sarah has replied. It’s at the bottom of her op ed. Look at her last couples of sentences. :-D

Steven Hayward has a great article in The Weekly Standard on the Climategate scandal. Be sure to check it out.

The response to my op-ed by global warming alarmists has been interesting. Former Vice President Al Gore has called me a “denier” and informs us that climate change is “a principle in physics. It’s like gravity. It exists.”

Perhaps he’s right. Climate change is like gravity – a naturally occurring phenomenon that existed long before, and will exist long after, any governmental attempts to affect it.

However, he’s wrong in calling me a “denier.” As I noted in my op-ed above and in my original Facebook post on Climategate, I have never denied the existence of climate change. I just don’t think we can primarily blame man’s activities for the earth’s cyclical weather changes.

Former Vice President Gore also claimed today that the scientific community has worked on this issue for 20 years, and therefore it is settled science. Well, the Climategate scandal involves the leading experts in this field, and if Climategate is proof of the larger method used over the past 20 years, then Vice President Gore seriously needs to consider that their findings are flawed, falsified, or inconclusive.

Vice President Gore, the Climategate scandal exists. You might even say that it’s sort of like gravity: you simply can’t deny it.

Mitt would be well advised to save his money. Sarah Palin is so much better prepared than she was a year ago. Obviously she learned a lot from her VP run. She even wowed liberal journalists at the Gridiron Dinner. Imagine the crowds when she speaks at candidate rallies next year.

Do all these fools claiming settled science ever look back at the history of science and notice that there are plenty of cases of “previously accepted science” being turned on it’s head by new data. It’s always puzzled me why supposed scientists take such a line of defense, I would think they more than the average joe would be aware of this happening.

But KH this is less about science than it is about politics.

    And, politics is ideology-driven.

In this case they have grasped onto “science” to propel certain political goals. If the science changes, they will simply ignore or deny it, as their goals continue to be the same.

Palin is grooming and finessing her image with this book tour.

The character trait, however, that continues to be magnetic to the people is her straight forward way of speaking and writing. She doesn’t seem to hide behind pretenses or put a finger in the air to see which way the political winds are blowing.

With all the rampant corruption and dishonesty in politics today Palin has become the answer to many people’s prayers for a trustworthy politician.

Other politician’s messages, or lack there of like Romney, make them appear like lighweights as their viability dims in the midst of Palin’s bright light.

Why is Palin the only one out there to speak up? Why doesn’t Romney, or the other 2012 contenders fight back? Romney is SUPPOSED to be one of the GOP movers and shakers, the veritable heir apparent for the GOP nomination. I don’t get the silence. Why is there such a silence from the supposed leaders? Why the continued gap in leadership?

People have mentioned Thune as a contender. Where is he? I don’t hear him speaking out or speaking up. If The Senate R’s were REALLY serious about defeating crappy care and the rest of Obama’s agenda, why aren’t they front and center on every news channel, on every chance they can get to slam his agenda, to explain EXPLAIN why the dems are destroying us, not just whining for 2 minutes.

Where the heck is our leadership? What are they REALLY doing??

It’s like that old commercial, long ago asking “Where’s the beef!”

Today, the cry would be, “Where’s the leadership!”

A psycho babble answer is that human nature is uncomfortable stepping outside the shadow of consensus. In crowds people tend to mimic each other, rather than differentiate themselves from a crowd and voice any disagreement, risking being jeered and disliked.

Thats why politicians prefer talking points and standard answers, rhetoric that will neither get them in trouble, but also won’t make them a standout either. Palin tends to go against the grain, becoming a clear voice of discontent for the status quo, making all the other politicians look more like wimps rather than statemen.

There is the theory that McConnell et al are letting the healthcare bill pass with token opposition for the effect it will have on the next election cycles. McConnell wants to be majority leader and, in red states, maybe the theory holds water.

The Newsweek cover just may be right – “What Do You Do with a Problem like Sarah?” If you are the GOP, that is.

She is gaining credibility and favorably. She has TeamSarah and one million Facebook followers behind her and likely the Tea Partiers. She’s well to the right of GOP leadership, very unorthodox, doesn’t always play nice, doesn’t owe anyone any thing and likes to play by her own rukes. In fact she’s the subject of an O’Reilly story right now.

I’ve always liked Palin, even before she became popular with Conservatives.

However, my personal regard for her does not overshadow some of my concerns about her real viability on the national stage. So far, she is playing “off broadway” and doing real well.

But, like Obama is finding out, when you’re alone in the hot seat of power you really do have to have your head on straight to process the myriad of information needed to make good decisions. This book tour is presenting her an opportunity to show her stuff — humor, zings, a potpourri of general opinions on current issues — spontaneously.

Next hopefully, she will be involved in more serious-minded venues where she can demonstrate her ability to handle the complexities of international problems as well as those that plague us at home.

Politics only came up once and that was initiated by some loony beeeithch. I pretty much ignored it since it was her tirade, not mine. Other than that we got along fine though she stomped off while her male companion was wondering what happened. He was cool to agree to disagree…she wasn’t.

I don’t hate anybody. She clearly did. Oh well. Her problem. I think that’s what pissed her off. I won’t go into details of the discussion. It was bizarre.

I found that most people there don’t discuss politics with strangers. They assume they all agree so why bother. Works fine for me, but if they make some remark I respond nicely, yet firmly. If I hear something in passing I ignore it and smile to myself. Such assholes and haters.
