More thoughtful fodder on the Republican wins……..
Apparently Obama is trying to regroup. He called his old 2008 campaign head, David Plouff, to the WH before the Mass. polls had closed, asking him to expand his role as WH adviser to coordinating the 2010 midterm elections.
Plouff is a guy who is really organized and runs a tight campaign.
As for Obama’s SOTU address, there are some changes there as well because of Obama’s problematic 1st year in office:
The White House intends to send Mr. Obama out into the country considerably more in 2010 than during his first year in office, advisers said, to try to rekindle the relationship he developed with voters during his presidential campaign.
His first big chance will come when he delivers his State of the Union address. Rather than unveil a laundry list of new initiatives, advisers said, Mr. Obama will try to reframe his agenda and how he connects it with public concerns. In particular, he will focus on how his ideas for health care, energy and financial regulation all fit into the broader economic mission of creating what he calls a “new foundation” for the country, the key words being “rescue, restore and rebuild.”
Obama moves to centralize control over party strategy
It doesn’t look like Obama is going to sit on his hands. Instead he appears to be realigning himself for battle.
Mike Huckabee also made a comment in a Politico article saying he felt the win in Mass. might actually help Obama if he can make the necessary corrections (at least in the eyes of the people) before the 2012 elections.
Mike Huckabee: Massachusetts election a plus for President Obama in 2012
Another cautionary note about thinking these past three election victories are a sign that the Republicans have become the new “popular” party on the political circuit:
Republicans are riding high in the wake of Scott Brown’s win, talking up an authentic resurgence for their party and a real chance for reclaiming power.
Don’t bet on it.
Yes, it is indisputable that the GOP has surged, especially in the past several months. Republicans won three major races in tough states — and watched the percentage of Americans who prefer Republicans over Democrats in hypothetical match ups rise to the highest level since 2004.
But it is also indisputable that the rise has little to do with the voters’ view of Republicans writ large — and that the very concerns that got them booted from power persist today.
Voters “have fallen out of love with the Democrats,” said Rep. Adam Putnam (R-Fla.). “They haven’t yet fallen back in love with us.”

OT, sorry Jan
INC please call me as soon as you can after reviewing the email I just sent you

The White House intends to send Mr. Obama out into the country considerably more in 2010 than during his first year in office,
Dear lord, if they send him out to talk to the people any more who will be running the damn country?!?
Nice piece, Jan.
[3]
“and financial regulation ”
DOW 8000 here we come!!
[4]
Makes sense to be cautious. The GOP shouldn’t pull a Sally Field (“You like me! You really like me!”) when the public as a whole has soured on pols of both parties.
For example, my internal polling (sample size: 1) says that more people voted against Gore in 2000 than voted FOR Bush, but in 2004 about as many voted FOR Bush as did those who gave their vote to Kerry in opposition to Bush. In 2008, however, more people voted FOR Obama than voted FOR McCain because O snookered them into thinking his hope’n’change message meant a positive and promising future of racial harmony, prosperity and good times, rather than a trip to economic ruin a la socialism.
To put it another way, GOPers need to give voters a reason to vote FOR them, like they did in 1994. Otherwise, the Dems retain control in November and Obama glides to an undeserved second term.

“The White House intends to send Mr. Obama out into the country considerably more in 2010 than during his first year in office,”
MORE???? I wonder if we can get a Restraining Order against him?
Apparently they haven’t noticed that his numbers go UP when he’s NOT in the public eye!
[6]
No more, please, God. I only have so much puke in my body.
[7]
Thanks TLS
A bow on Obama’s speech will be how the MSM reviews his words. Will they heap a lot of frosting on it, saying: “What a great man to make such a great and gracious speech!” Or, will they be more in line with some of Obama’s most recent fears and accusations?
Obama —-> the “Press is against me!”

…Now that comment made me laugh!
[9]
agreed JR!!
OBAMA: Nothings working. I don’t know how to fix anything and everything’s getting worse. What do we do?
ADVISORS: Huh, we don’t know. We’ve never run anything either. I took an economics class once, but I got a D.
OBAMA: Damn! Well, we were good at campaigning. Let’s go back to that.
[10]
ROFLMAO —
Okay, Obama spent all of 2008 interviewing for the job of POTUS — he spent 2009 doing a whole bunch of stuff that no one wanted, healthcare, bowing to world leaders and apologizing for America, giving terrorists the rights of US citizens and trials in US courts, spending “stimulus” money that was nothing more than kickbacks to his supporters, etc, etc, etc… and the citizens are becoming increasingly unhappy. So, what is ZERO’s answer… instead of doing the job he promised, the job he was hired to do… nope… he is going to spend 2010 interviewing for the job of POTUS.
Also, you must read Victor David Hanson over at NRO today — even if you have time for only one blog…

#9 — When did you bug the White House… that is exactly what went down!!!!
[12]
talk, talk, talk, talk, talk but say nothing. I have to pick lint from underneath my refrigerator tonight.

One thing to think about. Since we must suffer a president in our homes via TV, it would be nice if we had someone who is easy on the eyes. Sarah Palin.

“In the latest poll, that was down to 38 percent good or excellent and 61 percent fair or poor.”
38/61 IN PA FOLKS !!!!!
[16]
The AP, CBS, NBC and ABC have just released their post SOTU poll numbers and Obama is now between 65% and 70% approval!!!!
[17]
16.
“He had me at hello”
[18]
…and 38% in PA = 33% National
[19]
Please put up the SOTU thread so I can establish the ‘I inherited’ drinking game.
[20]
Mi Conservative, the AP, CBS, NBC and ABC talking heads have already released their reviews of the SOTU address. Apparently Obama’s speech was awesome, struck just the right notes, appealed directly to the populists discontent and has charted a bold new course for this country that will define his presidency. Of course the rest of us have to wait until this evening, but it’s good to know that it was such an awesome speech.
[21]
establish the ‘I inherited’ drinking game.
It’s the ‘I inherited’ drinking game tonight? Damn, I was hoping for the ‘Let me be perfectly clear’ drinking game.
[22]
And … I know everyone saw this …
but did you see <a href="http://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2010/01/26/obama_uses_teleprompters_to_address_middle_class_task_force.html"this one?
Obama cannot address his own task force at an administration meeting without a teleprompter…THE ONE appears at the 37 minute
Is there anyone out there who isn’t wondering that THE ZERO is the Manchurian Candidate… a puppet, the face, the voice, the reader in chief put forward by some unidentified force?
Heard a caller to the Chris Plante show this morning say that what she wanted to see tonight was Obama to speak, not read, but speak. Seems that she doesn’t want to hear/watch any more of the well rehearsed but emotionless, or manufactured emotion (insert emphasis here) … but real and truthful speaking from the head or the heart.
Maybe the biggest robot of all is THEOBAMAbot.

The Victor Davis Hanson article, you linked in #10, reminded me of Bob Herbert’s column saying nearly the same thing, from the perspective of the left.
Obama’s credibility gap — NY Times
[24]
You want to get hammered fast? Drink every time he says ‘we or I inherited’, ‘angry’ , ‘we have work to do’, ’saved or created’ then try to count the times he says ‘I’.
Bonus drinking if he slips and says ‘I inherited my poll numbers from Bush’
[25]
I’m perusing the drudge articles on DAVOS and found this post at the bottom of one article:
Jan 27, 2010“The danger to America is not Barack Obama but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the presidency. It will be easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president. The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails us. Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince. The republic can survive a Barack Obama, who is, after all, merely a fool. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools such as those who made him their president.” O2BNTEXAS

“Let me be clear” – 1 sip of beer
“I/we inherited” – 1 sip of Kentucky whiskey
“Irresponsible spending of the last 8 years” – 1 whole beer
“We will hold the line on spending – 1 shot whiskey, cup of coffee, followed by 1 more shot
“My plans are starting to work and will reduce the deficit” – 3 shots
“Since Jan. 2009, the oceans have fallen” – whole bottle plus six-pack of Bud.

Every time he says “I/me” – count first, then drink, otehrwise you’ll need your stomach pumped.

Obama to kill\scrap NASA’s moon program entirely, to direct NASA mission to study global warming.
Nope, not making it up.

Astute comment posted in #25. I often find the comments people post can be better than the actual article itself!
Much of the “trust,” IMO, that people placed in Obama was an “outlier,” in politics rather than a trend. Obama came out of nowhere, a charismatic minority, with a compelling verbal gig, augmented by an euphoric message. People were fooled by his attractive mask. But, now I think the public will have gained some immunity, so that they will be less inclined to fall for such folly in the future.

Imagine the difference between being a scientist (a real one) under Reagan and Obama.
Under Reagan, as a scientist/techie you might have had the prestigious job of working on the ability to shoot down missles with a satellite or the chance to explore the cosmos or even design weaponry to protect the people of the United States. Real scientists doing real scientific work.
Scientits under Obama have been assigned to find out why snow melts in the summer.
[35]
#25 — WOW — exactly, clearly, concisely explains why the fools who elected Obama must be educated as to the folly and not allowed to vote again until they demonstrate that they understand the serious damage they have done, or we should just revoke their citizenship and deport them….hey a girl can always dream!
[36]
132 – Number of times Obama refers to himself in speeches.
[37]
33 – I suspect this is actually about killing yobs in tx, al, and fl. Don’t get me wrong Nasa funding may need to go on life support in a KH administration cause we’re broke, but seems to me changing the mission to study the mostly debunked GW “problem” and orbital ‘taxi’ services is an even bigger waste, the later being something private industry could attack quite well if given the opportunity.
[38]
‘I didn’t sign off on those shady health care deals.’Really?

[39]
Let’s see, if Obama used a teleprompter during a speech to 6th graders and no doubt he’ll use one tonight, this has to mean something.
Man, I wish I had higher than a 6th grade education. I would be able to figure this out.

Michael Ramirez’s take on the SOTU
H/T HHR
[42]
Okay — we need a thread with the rules for tonights drinking game or BS bingo, or whatever we are playing… or the pool for our best guess at how many times THE ZERO says x, y, or z…
And on a different theme… I find reading the comments to be the best part of most news stories. It shows not only what people are thinking but how deeply they are examining the circumstances around them. It is amazing to me how shallow the thought process is for most liberals. Earlier this week I participated in an exchange with someone about healthcare. He pulled out both the Bible “brother’s keeper” and the Declaration of Independence “pursuit of happiness” as justification for government controlled health care. I did nothing more than address his taking phrases out of context, copied the entire Declaration of Independence into my post and added parenthetical comments to him along the way. After finishing with the Declaration of Independence I asked if he wanted me to go throught the Bible with him….lol. Most of these young liberals just lack an education and sadly have not been taught critical thinking.
[43]
Hey, Jan, forgot to say how much I appreciate you doing a post for us, hope you continue to do so…!!!
[44]
With regards to NASA, I’m something of a space enthusiast and have been following the ups and down for several years now. Constellation is a complete disaster for several reasons and deserves to be canceled. It was nothing more than a Marshall Flight Center jobs program that was costing billions (not to mention billions in overruns) for a mission that would likely never be fulfilled. The fact NASA was developing the Ares I rocket that was failing to even get the new Orion capsule to orbit was a huge red flag that decisions were not being made because of technical merit, but rather by congressional districts fighting over money. There are proven off the shelf commercial rockets and newer generation of much cheaper commercial rockets (still unproven) that could have replaced Ares I, but the NASA bureaucracy was insistent they needed to create their own rocket simply to get a capsule 200 miles in orbit. The heavy lift Ares V rocket was also turning into another epic boondoggle as well. The Constellation story is a sad commentary on how government rot turned a ‘can do’ agency into a very expensive, bureaucratic nightmare.
The fact that Obama now wants NASA to study, as ConservativeTony said so aptly, ‘why snow melts in the summer’ is just a sad epitaph to one of the few things that government once did so well.
Although things are going more slowly than hoped, there is actually a lot of excitement for space enthusiasts with regards to a new breed of entrepreneurial space companies. The are apply the best the private sector has to offer to create solutions that may indeed eventually make space travel an everyday occurrence. There is a reasonable chance that Space X will be launching astronauts to the space station within the next three years — five to six years before the Ares I would have launched astronauts. All on a rocket developed literally for pennies on the dollar compared to NASAs news rockets. It may be the ‘Ford F110′ of rockets, but if all you need to do is the equivalent of hauling some material or people across town you don’t need a custom built Hummer.
[45]
Comments from #37 are priceless….
LOL… Did you ever think you would see the day when Clinton’s lying about sex would be elevated to a status of welcome relief.
We should not give this White House any ideas… but maybe Obama needs a sex scandal to take everyone’s eyes off his destructive meltdown.
[46]
Regarding #25, TLS that is a wonderful quote. Saved in it my personal notes.
[47]
MFG —>
[48]
my bad for not sying what MFG said: Thanks, janzam!!! Excellent and most appreciated!
[49]
CT,
Would be nice if NASA reverted back somewhat to their role in the old NACA days. Then they let contracts for design and studies to private companies. That and I wish they would do more to fund the space elevator efforts.
[50]
By the way, should not SOTU really be called SOD — State of Denial this year??
Wonder if Scott Brown will be in attendance?
[51]
drdog, I sure hope Scott Brown is in the audience. And I hope he jumps up and says: “You LIE” when Obama tries to tie the two of ‘em together!
[52]
JR, Not to top you, but one Scott could throw out — “I Won!”. Just to remind the BiC it works both ways.
[53]
37 -Barry is full of chit and that statement is not going to be believed by the majority.
[54]
48 – Too many problems with that idea, I found in interesting till I looked into it more – don’t see it happen in your my life time even with major advances in materials.
[55]
Big Mo, 27, you’re in another league than I am. Of course, I might need your suggestion tonight to get through that speech.
[56]
but one Scott could throw out — “I Won!”.
LOL! Priceless!
[57]
drdog…YOU win!
Scott Brown shouting that out would be 1000% AWESOME!!!
[58]
KH,
Yes, I doubt that I will ever see it. Still too much to do to make it real. But for the paltry amount of effort that has just been done on the lifter the competing groups have come a long way.
I was thinking this was more of a tech that is possible by 2050. But we won’t get there if we don’t start now.
[59]
I’m starting to think that I needed to pre-hydrate more today, need a lot my asprin, and to line my stomach with something bland and absorbant, if THE ONE stays true to form, then the ZERO drinking game will bring on one hell of a hangover.
But the only question I have is can I blame the certain vomiting on the booze or on Barry’s bullshit?
[60]
judy, I think I can speak on behalf of everyone here: we love you!
your question: “But the only question I have is can I blame the certain vomiting on the booze or on Barry’s bullshit?” is on all of our minds as we try to prepare for the ordeal this evening presents!
[61]
Justrand… well from what I am hearing on the radio and seeing on all the political blogs… the ZERO drinking game is sport of choice for the evening. However, I also noticed a considerable amount of caution as it appears most fear that be it the pronoun I, blaming Bush, or re-inventing history or facts (strawman arguments) to suit himself, there is no word or phrase that chosen would not push even the most stalwart among us to near alcohol poisoning.
[62]
FYI — Mark Levin is reading the advanced talking points from tonight’s SOTU —
I am going to be very busy with my Ah, excuse me series pointing out where the ZERO re-writes history to suit himself.
