    It’s been an interesting week:
    - Scott Brown’s election
    - The market taking a dive
    - Obama dropping in just about all the polls
    - Some Democrats getting scared
    - Other Democrats, like Pelosi, remaining defiant
    - Obama bringing together the people who made his 2008 victory possible to try to save the Democrats
    - J.D. Hayworth tossing his hat in the ring

Obama is frantically trying to find an ice floe that will support his weight. Maybe global warming is working to our benefit.

He is still arrogant, tone-deaf, and a GDLC. His response to losing his ass in Massachusetts and in the polls is to double down and press forward under the guise of a new tone.

A bipartisan commission to freeze spending? Hah! Spending is up over 20% and he wants to freeze it at that level, and starting in November. Scurrilous ba$tard.

Health care? Hah! He wants to press forward with reconciliation. Scurrilous ba$tard.

The economy and jobs? Hah! He proposes a punitive tax on banks when they, with the exception of Citi, paid back every cent with interest. Scurrilous ba$tard.

New tone? Hah! Like fingernails on a chalkboard.

    Scurrilous ba$tard.

Obama bringing together the people who made his 2008 victory possible to try to save the Democrats… —> bc

What Obama seems to have learned from this past year’s struggles and defeats is that he at least needs to “talk” more to the people about what they want to hear.

    So….

The people are worried about government spending —> let’s propose a “discretionary spending freeze!”

The people don’t like all the deficits —> let’s kick in a “deficit task force” at the end of the year! Wow!

And, I seem to have lost touch with the people —> I’ll think I’ll go around the country to share some warm and fuzzies with them, which will bring me closer to the peons in this country —the middle class I am screwing over! Maybe this will resemble another democratic “listening” tour!

As they say here, Obama “FIFY” with this new impending approach.

Oh yes, Obama will also include the words, “jobs” and “economy” in his speeches more, as well as the SOTU address, just to show good intentions towards the people that he really, really is on the stick in his presidency.

IMO, it will just be intensified “smoke and mirrors,” as a remedy for his second year. But, nothing of substance, in his agenda will have changed. The only thing he wants to do is soothe and coddle the people into submission more so there won’t be as much overt opposition to his vision.

And, it all depends upon the people as to whether they will take the bait or not.

I could care less about keeping Bernanke or Geithner around. You can make a good case for firing both of them.

Given a choice, Geithner ought to be the first out. He’s a dam criminal, and couldn’t pass a third grade ethics class. He is in the back pocket of the criminal-in-chief, and ought to be in jail for what he’s done this year, and in his last year as the NY fed guv.

Bernanke is smart and well-intentioned. He just needs to show more independence.

Actually that photo visually describes Obama’s “tone” perfectly.

I personally am uneasy with this new verbal, old-in-subtance, approach of Obama. It shows he is too insulated in his ideology to take a different tact. But, is still willing to try to pull the wool over the people’s head by simply creating a different presentation for the same old stuff!

Jan, my knowledge of the fed candidates are limited. I remember Bush had on his list Glenn Hubbard, the dean of Columbia Business School. He’s probably a republican.

Another mentioned is Donald Kohn. I looked him up and he is a veteran of the Federal Reserve and supposedly an independent.

I think the biggest slam on Bernanke is his lack of percieved independence. He endorsed the stimulus legislation, and that in itself, is cause for booting him.

I attended an all-day Campaign School yesterday put on by the Silicon Valley GOP. At the workshop successful local candidates, campaign consultants and party officials presented solid practical information on what it takes to run a successful campaign. Keep in mind that I’m in a very, very blue area and there was a lot less “rah, rah GOP” and more of a concentration on attracting independent and Democrat voters without losing one’s conservative bearings. However, messaging was just a portion of the information. The bulk of the day concentrated on things such as mental attitude, impacts on family and your social life, determining local “hot issues”, getting to know voters, finding campaign help/managers, when to hire professional help, budgeting, media relations, leveraging on-line social networks, polling, and a ton of other stuff.

If your local GOP offers a similar campaign school, I would highly recommend that you make an effort to attend. About half of the 120 or so people that attended were simply people curious about getting involved with helping campaigns rather than being candidates themselves. It was well worth the $50. If anything, just to be surrounded by like-minded individuals for the day.

My personal take-away was that I the successful candidates prepared years for their eventual run at office. First, educating themselves and building a network of people who could help them — advice, meeting other people, running campaign operations and donations. Then, creating and tuning written campaign plans so that by the time the election time came, they were concentrating on raising money and meeting voters rather than learning and getting bogged down in the 100’s of other details associated with a campaign.

In light of all this new information, there is a lot I need to mull over the next few days. For instance, perhaps it’s better I set my sights on 2012 and plan on running a serious campaign then. In the meantime devote myself full time to helping local candidates who were previously successful and now seeking higher office so I can learn first hand the operations of a campaign.

Nobody I hope. We conservatives should be fighting tooth and nail to keep the guy! Oh not because he is a saint. He is a slime by all accounts. But he was one of the last of the Bush appointments before a change in Administration.

The salient point is — if he is not reconfirmed we will be assured to get somebody FAR WORSE!! Obammy will pick one of his far left academic friends for the position. Then where will we be??

    From Fox News Sunday…….

WALLACE: “But, Robert, Scott Brown had a clear platform. Let’s lay it out. Stop health care. Cut taxes. End backroom deals with special interest and don’t give terrorists Miranda rights. It wasn’t the same thing that swept Barack Obama into office. Scott Brown explicitly campaigned against the — campaigned against the Obama agenda.”

GIBBS: “That may be what he campaigned on but that’s not why the voters of Massachusetts sent him to Washington.”

Am finding your posts fascinating on how you are getting knowledge in what it takes to politically run for office the first time. I never heard of a “campaign school” before. But, it makes sense to offer one, as they now have schools and seminars for almost everything these days.

You may be pragmatic in your thoughts to wait until 2012, and simply get more experience from working on another’s campaign.

I remember my husband’s father telling him almost the same thing when it applied to a career. My husband had just gotten his real estate licence, after getting a degree in business in college. His father said to work for a large RE company first, learn at their expense before going out on your own. This is what he did, and claims it was very good, sage advice.

Damn McCain. He is sticking his finger in Conservatives’ eyes once more by asking Palin to campaign for him. If he was even a half-assed loyal Republican (Note I’m not asking him to even be a Conservative here) he would excuse Palin and ask that she keep out of the AZ Republican primary, then back the winner in the primary.

This is a lose-lose for Palin no matter how you look at it. Either she alienates Conservatives by supporting somebody who has caused hell for us or she alienates the GOP for not returning a favor to McCain. I hope Palin sees the light.

The latest disclosure: Rajendra Pachauri, chairman of the UN’s (formerly) prestigious Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (known as the IPCC), may have raised millions of dollars for his New Delhi institute on the basis of the totally bogus ‘glaciergate’ claim by the IPCC that the Himalayan glaciers would melt by 2035…..

It is now, potentially, a criminal issue. If Pachauri knew the claim was bogus and allowed these grant applications to go forward, he could find himself facing criminal charges.

If Pachauri can be found criminally accountable from profiting from global warming claims that he knew to be false, wouldn’t the same apply to carbon-billionaire Al Gore?

Another reason for me to wait until 2012 is that a few years ago California passed a proposition that reformed how redistricting is managed within the state. Basically, up until now, the Democrats have been successful in attacking elected GOP officials by simply carving up their districts before the next election — something that has worked very successfully for the Dems in all but the most red areas of California such as Orange county and certain rural areas. In 2011, district lines will now be redrawn by “non-political” commissions which will hopefully eliminate the absurd gerrymandering of districts.

Redistricting reform impacts all types of districts except congressional districts which will still be drawn up by Democrat party officials in Sacramento. There will very likely be a proposition on this years ballot that will include the congressional districts within the redistricting reform.

If that proposition passes, it may be much easier to be elected in the new 2012 congressional districts that will hopefully be more fair to GOP candidates. Also, once elected, the GOP politician can be better assured their district won’t be changed on them to put them out of office.

I would certainly be helping myself and other California GOP candidates to make sure that the proposition gets on the ballot and is passed this year.

Palin is a “big girl” and could have said “no” to McCain, like she has done to many other venues. It’s her call on who she wants to stump for or not.

It is getting to be almost satiric in how people are playing manager or parent for how Palin is using her time, and who she is endorsing.

Furthermore, people can be vetted for what choices they do make. If you don’t like what she is doing, then it’s on her.

    Good point drdog.

Campaign Spot has also brought up the point that at 76, McCain won’t be able to easily run much longer, unless he has his Mom’s genetics.
So, it is being postulated that Hayworth’s run against McCain may only be setting himself up for a more viable run the next time around.

    Jan,

The Glaciergate thing going criminal I can agree with. The question is who? It boils down to a matter of timing. Review this. Dr Syed Hasnain who issued the bogus claims is clearly in the cross hairs. Whether Dr Rajendra Pachauri is depends on what he knew and when he knew it. But I doubt he gets away clean. What the bad timing is that Hasnain now works for TERI.

Will be fun to watch. Betcha before its all over IPCC has a new chair and in the final analysis be disbanded.

    MP,

Looks like you’ve go a tough decision to make. One on hand there appears to be a Republican tidal wave that will sweep across the land this will likely make 1994 pale in comparison.

On the other hand, you could wait for better districting in 2012 but take a gamble that the tidal wave will turn into a kiddie wave or even a rip tide by then.

Even worse, McCain or Huck could be our 2012 nominee. (Not trying to persuade you one way or the other)

Excellent follow-up article, drdog, to the one I posted from wizbang. From what I gleaned, the various ties involved with people/institutions seems merky and convoluted. Hasnain will definitely take the lion’s share of the blame, though. One paragraph I thought to be noteworthy, especially diminishing Al Gore’s award-winning film, was:

To understand why the future of Himalayan glaciers should arouse such peculiar passion, one must recall why they have long been a central icon in global warming campaigners’ propaganda. Everything that polar bears have been to the West, the ice of the Himalayas has been – and more – to the East. This is because, as Mr Gore emphasised in his Oscar-winning film An Inconvenient Truth, the vast Himalayan ice sheet feeds seven of the world’s major river systems, thus helping to provide water to 40 per cent of the world’s population.

    DD,

I’m sure you are right, he did ask her before JD jumped in. Point is, he should not have asked her in the first place. Palin and McCain are not compatible politically. He used her in 2008 and wants to use her again in 2010. McCain should excuse her and fight his own fight.

Here is an interesting article about how the statists/socialists radicals in charge in DC may use currency inflation to help force in their socialist utopia:

    http://www.americanthinker.com/2010/01/the_currency_of_social_justice.html

“Mr. Cahn is the founder of an organization called TimeBanks USA. TimeBanks are used as private entities who work with government agencies, such as Social Services, to inject the concept of Co-production into communities. The goal of Cahn’s version of Co-production is to “redefine work” through “social justice” and the “core economy.” It’s also a way through philanthropy and government funding to intermingle our monetary economy with the low-valued skills of the “core economy” in order to have an equalizing effect on wages. Their system is based on a mutual credit, non-negotiable and non-interest bearing form of currency called “Time Dollars.”

So what does all of this mean for a fundamental transformation of America? In the coming months, we’ll have the largest government employment sector in American history and a labor market ominously beholden to the government for its survival. Common sense says that if the government’s income relies on taxes from the private sector, then when those jobs are gone, so is the government’s revenue to pay off its massive debts. This concept is now tritely referred to as “unsustainable.”

Another reason to get away from a politically manipulated “managed” curreny…..

Palin is hewning her own “voice,” to fit issues and circumstances as she sees them, not as others want her to see them.

In “going rogue” she will take her scrapes and bumps along the road, learning from them. So far, her instincts, though, have been pretty darn good! Many here, for instance, thought she was making a HUGH mistake leaving the governorship early. Now, it appears that it gave her more room to write and do a book tour, giving her even more visibility and credibility.

So, I am betting on Sarah, and quite frankly admire her for taking her own stances on issues and people, rather than putting a finger in the air and going along with others, in order to not reap any criticism. That is truly being an “independent” person, something you don’t see often in politicians today.

“zero” can talk all he wants about freezing spending and looking to make cuts. But that is all it is – TALK. The democrats were elected in 2006 on PayGo. Where is that today. The public has seen that is what nothing but talk. As soon as they got control of the White House, they went on a spending spree. Why do you think the independents are fleeing them in droves.

People are remembering why they don’t like one party in charge. And they are going to take care of business in November. In the local paper they showed that the democrats HAD a +11% as of September 2009 here in Ohio. Now it is a +10% for the Republicans as of January 2010. In less than 4 months we have had a 21% swing.

As pointed out, spending went up over 20%. Even if they freeze spending, it is unsustainable. Cities, counties and state governments are deeply in the red. Most are looking at both spending cuts and tax increases. People want less government in their pocket (whether it be fiscal or social).

Socialist in CA push state single-payer HC – yes, the voters are angerd because the leftist have not pushed communism fast enough nor have they been underhanded, abuse of power, and ruthless enough with any citizen who disagrees with them:

    http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2010/01/california_dems_seek_single_pa.html

“But Just two days after Republican Scott Brown’s election, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has announced she no longer has the votes in the House to pass the Senate version of the health care bill. In effect, the plan for national health care has imploded in Washington D.C.

One would think that the liberal Democrats, even in California, would take a lesson from the Massachusetts election and what it means. Instead, what happened in Sacramento this week is a slap in the face to the citizens of California, and spit in the eye to voters nationwide.

Democrats in the California Legislature’s Senate Appropriations committee, led by Sen. Mark Leno ( D-San Francisco) have voted, without any comment, to approve a bill (SB 810 see HERE) which will outlaw private health insurance in California and create a single-payer health insurance system in the state.”

I posted something early this morning over at State of (Dis) Union… musing that the Zero administration was too tone deaf to change their tune.

After the Sunday morning news shows and Obama administration talking heads having a turn at explaining the world as I see it, it is painfully obvious that ZERO’s echo chamber did not even crack with the MA vote on Tuesday.

To be sure most of us started out 2009 praying that we individually and the country as a whole would be able to survive the Obama presidency over the next four years, now, given the magnitude of tone deafness, I am wondering if the Obama presidency will survive three more years. Looks like I am not alone….

The talk in Washington is that he look to Bill Clinton’s presidency for comeback answers, or maybe Ronald Reagan’s. Political history won’t help him much.
Obama’s crisis is personal. The inner hollowness and facile talent that propelled his rise gave him none of the grit necessary to meet the challenges. Where would he begin?
America has survived bad presidents before and we will survive this one. Fortunately, we’re no longer waiting for him to grow into the job. Massachusetts proved the nation is ready to move forward.

Oh, MY!!! exactly about what Constitution did Obama lecture!!! Obviously, not the U.S.!!!!

I’m totally bummed out that I missed Poetry Night. I did submit the following to the Friday night poetry thread, but it wasn’t until SAT. NIGHT–’a day late and a dollar short’.

And let me tip my hat to all the great poets on BJG who shad their literary works. BJG has the best crew of poets and wordsmiths by far.

I get all sideways and start to shake when I am unable to submit some poetry for poetry night. So to stop the shakes I will subject you to the following poem (for those of you who devoured the poetry night site on Friday night and have sped forward without lookkng back).

When Teddy was put ‘neath the grass,
The Ds put up the Coakley lass.
But her statements–so craven and crass,
While Brown filled with momentum and sass,
Coakley’s campaign ran out of gas,
Dems were shocked at what happened in Mass,
The voters on Coakley took a big pass,
And shoved their votes right up Barry’s ass.

Virginia and Jersey was a pre-quake shock,
But Dems just shrugged and brushed off their frock,
They believed in the Bay State they had a real lock,
But Mr. Scott Brown really cleaned their clock,
Now Dems their president have begun to mock,
They avoid him like an old smelly sock,
For in 2010 the GOP will continue to rock,
And Barry’s time runs out–tock, tick, tock.

There. Now I feel better and can successfully face the coming week….

Scathing piece by the NY Post.

A few days back we were talking about Obama having a mental break of some sorts. Now I doubt that with the actions of his point men in the WH, and some of the speeches and interviews he has recently made. It all seems so bazaar, but true, that he is merely doubling down and ignoring all signs of contention over his policies thus far.

    Sad….

MFG, Captain Bullshit is my favorite name for Obama. However, to keep things rated G for the kids, I refer to him as Captain Baloney around the house. It’s funny to overhear my kids occasionally refer to him as Captain Baloney around their friends and when they are asked who they are talking about they say “That’s Obama, we don’t like him around here.” Being in occupied leftist territory, the other kids scratch their heads wondering why someone wouldn’t like Obama. We never take it further than that, but I do have to wonder what these kids go home and tell their parents. :-)

The first will repeal California’s Cap & Trade insanity and the other is the redistricting reform measure I described. In addition to helping other candidates, those are good places to focus my pent up energy as well.

I still have a few weeks before I can register to add my name to the primary ballot. I have a meeting lined up this afternoon with some party movers-and-shakers and I’ll have more meetings later this week with other party officials. We’ll see where it goes.

The highest court in the land has already made its ruling. It not like they sent it back to an lower court for reconsideration–they sh!tcanned the entire concept of limiting campaign contributions by corporations.

I’m guessing Obama’s strategy is to get Congress to pass a similar bill. He’ll hold of signing it into law for as long as necessary. What he’ll be waiting for is another SC retirement or death to change that 5-4 decision into 4-5.

#76 — WOW … Gregory actually challenged her and said… you cannot say….

I think Gregory sees NBC and MSNBC going down in flames and will be sending that in as his audition tape for Fox News when they start a Fox on Politics channel.

This administration is re-writing history immediately… the financial crisis happened 2nd and 3rd quarter 2008 — and was “saved” with the passage of TARP under the Bush administration. Obama passed his worthless stimulus bill that did nothing but grease the pockets of supporters and increase the deficit. The substantial number of job losses in the 4th quarter were in response to the planned expiration of the Bush tax cuts and the uncertainty over the damage Obama would do to small business… which he has damaged substantially. Most of the 1,000 plus small businesses that I monitor closely initiated these labor cuts late last year were doing so to stay ahead of the disaster ahead they saw coming with the Obama administration, the uncertainty of the cost of health care mandates, and the knowledge that taxes were increasing in 2011.

The TARP funds that went to the banks is now being repaid. The TARP funds that Obama re-directed has no chance of ever being repaid.

This administration is already re-writing history to take credit for the success… and ignore their failures. Sure the number of job cuts has dropped…. exclude the increase in government jobs and it isn’t that much of a reduction. Also, once you cut half of your labor force business still needs some workers.

JustMary… but when you bring up his lack of transcripts people will tell you he was the first black Editor of the Harvard Law Review. What they will not tell you is that Obama was the first editor of the Harvard Law Review that was elected from a slate of candidates not on the basis of merit and academic achievement, but purely on the basis of popularity.

This must be that the Harvard Law School students were very anxious to demonstrate that they wanted to transcend race …. so they threw out the past criteria for Law Review of selection limited to those students demonstrating the highest academic achievement … and picked Obama. Prima facie evidence that history repeats itself…. too many American voters cast aside the need for leadership experience and elected the guy with the thinnest resume ever.

We will never see Obama’s transcripts, not from high school, Occidental, Columbia or Harvard. The transcripts will only raise questions about his lack of abilities and totally destroy the myth of Obama as exceptionally intelligent.

Although I do not doubt that when it comes to meetings in his administration, that Obama is the smartest guy in the room … or at least the smartest guy in the room that is talking.

Judy – I believe his transcripts and grades will come out. But it wont be until after he is done. Remember how smart both Gore & Kerry were. Nothing was ever written about their grades while running for the presidency. But later it came out what type of grades they had while in college. At the same time we heard how stupid Bush was. Yet we later find out that his grades were as good if not better than those 2 clowns. Yet people still believe that an excellent speaker has to be more intelligent than a less than moderate speaker. Based on this criteria, Hitler must have been the smartest man of the 20th century.

Of all the events to follow the MA election, what I find most amazing is the tonnage of articles being written, in a variety of sources, about the sad state of this country after one year of Obama.

It’s like people have been sitting on their dismay, afraid to step out of line or speak disfavorably of such an icon. But, that’s all changed, and lips have become unglued.

Here’s the apt title of a cautionary report co-authored by ex-Bill Clinton honcho Elaine Kamarck of Harvard. “Change You Can Believe in Needs a Government You Can Trust.”

Trust the government? Why? After the Christmas underpants bomber debacle? After the Dems did dirty deals with Big Pharma, big unions and big obstructionists like Nebraska Sen. Ben Nelson to pass a health-care bill that almost nobody – ask our new senator, Scott Brown – even wants?

Who trusts the government anymore? Yes, things do look bleak.

A long while ago mp posted a piece on Alinsky’s radical rules of
behavior. I remember saving them for future use. Today I found another article that piggybacks on mp’s earlier one, applying Alinsky’s strategy to the present day. I found their take on education to be of particular interest, and so true!

Alinsky — circa 1971 — also called for an extreme makeover of American education, as it had a tendency to immunize the middle class masses against extreme emotion-driven political thought:

The products of [the American education] system have been trained to emphasize order, logic, rational thought, direction and purpose. (p. 166)

Well, we wouldn’t want that, would we? And nearly four decades later it would seem our education system has been successfully hijacked by Alinskyites — from kindergarten through postgraduate work, an American student can make the grade without order, logic, rational thought, direction, and purpose. Especially if his worldview and politics mesh with the teacher’s. Much of the National Education Association sees conservative parents as the enemy, so much so that the retiring general counsel felt free to pull a “pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it” at their 2009 national convention.

    Yes, things do look bleak…

Given all the good things that happened this last week, I’m actually more concerned about our short-term future than I have been for a quite a while. The reason is because there is so much uncertainty. Paradoxically, the rise of the right actually makes things even more uncertain. Uncertainty isn’t necessarily a bad thing as it gives rise to the possibility that things could get much better, however, they also could get a lot, lot worse. There are simply too many wildcards out there.

I think we’ll see the results of the uncertainty play itself in many ways over the comings months: wild swings in the market, increased unemployment and politicians running around like chickens with their heads cut off trying to understand the mood of the electorate. I feel we are walking on thin ice these days and I’m hunkering down in case things do indeed get a lot worse.

The problem that the left has not thought about is the results. They want to eliminate logic and order. What is the alternative – irrational thought and disorder (anarchy). Good luck with that.

By the time the left realize what train station they are pulling into, there will be wide spread anarchy and chaos. Would not want to be one of them at that time.
