Good News: Lamestream Media Plummeting
The left-wing “lamestream media” continues to fall (both in print and with cable news channels).
While overall newsstand sales of magazines dropped by 9.1, Time and Newsweek led the way in lost sales
Time newstand sales declined by a staggering 34.9% and Newsweek by an astonishing 41.3% as far-left nut-jobs like Joe Kline and Evan Thomas (of Obama is like a God fame) are left to run wild without adult supervision.
Newsstand sales tend to be driven by the economy and are a more timely indicator of a magazine’s vitality than subscriptions, which tend to lag and which can be driven by heavy discounting. While newsstand sales are a small percentage of most magazines’ circulation, they are a profitable part of it — publishers typically charge only a fraction of the newsstand price for a subscription copy.
CNN and MSNBC Bleeding Viewers
CNN and MSNBC both declined over 50% in the 25-54 demographic, while both networks also suffered seriously in total audience.
Much more detail is in this graphic. Some highlights/lowlights from that graphic:
- MSNBC’s first two hours of prime time, with Chris Matthews and David Shuster, each had fewer than 100,000 viewers in the 25-54 demo last Thursday .
- Every single one of CNN’s prime time shows came in with fewer than 200,000 viewers in the 25-54 demo on Thursday. Last year, every one was above 200,000. Anderson Cooper’s 10 p.m. show cratered, dropping from 528,000 to 178,000.
- HLN significantly outdrew both CNN and MSNBC in the 25-54 demo during both prime time and the entire day; it was a distant third in each category a year ago.
The results were not entirely peachy at Fox News. Sean Hannity’s and Greta Van Susteren’s audiences were both down by single digits from a year ago in the 25-54 demographic and total viewers.

O/T John Murtha just died.
[2]
Murtha’s dead…… is this where I am supposed to cry? I heard that Teddy welcomed him with open arms at the gates of hell.
[3]
What happens to his seat now? Special election???
[4]
No comment. But, I do expec this seat to move to the GOP column in November. John Murtha’s seniority and the pork he delivered to his district was what kept getting him re-elected.
[5]
bc,
You still think the LSM has influence????
mmmkay
[6]
3 – Ah what would be the point… there is a real election in like 250 days, sources say his dead corpse is still the favorite.
[7]
What happens to his seat now? Special election??
Curious minds want to know…special election, appointment, anyone know???
I wanted him to be removed from congress, but I was only thinking via election.
[8]
Speaking of the LSM, I have been trying to cancel Time for several months…we don’t even pay for it, and it still comes….never subscribed to it, and we still get it.
can’t get it stopped. Like some bad disease or something.
[9]
I think it’s a matter of state law. In NY23 a special election was required. Being a House seat, it will come up for election in November regardless.
[10]
It’s fading, but it’s still there, particularly in Presidential election years. CNN’s viewership spiked in 2008 as independents who don’t follow politics that closely tuned in.
I am not concerned about MSNBC, which is primarily a propaganda network, but many nieve independents still consider CNN “the most trusted name in news” and an objective network.
[11]
Diana Irey (pictured above) ran against Murtha in 2006. A young conservative mom (like Palin), she has stayed active in politics on the county level. I’d love to see her run again.
[12]
2 things…
first, that photo of Mitchell “confronting” Palin is priceless! Objective Journalism indeed.
second…I truly do not like talking ill of the dead. That said, Murtha was a crooked man, who wielded power ruthlessly and shamelessly. America in general, and that section of Pennsylvania in particular, will be better served going forward with Murcha not there. He should have resigned…but he loved his power too much.
[13]
and bc3b, CNN continues to be shown in virtually every TV in every airport. and many hotels BLOCK FoxNews.
[14]
The hospital lobby in my little community is tuned to CNN. I asked them one day to change it to FOX news. They did, for the afternoon, at least.
I couldn’t wait to get away from CNN. Used to be all I could get, till I got a dish.
[15]
JR,
No blocks at the airports involved. CNN paid for the rights to do so via contract years ago at the airports. aka like stadium naming rights. Don’t know about the hotel situation.
[16]
Mitchell, what a massive waste of talent. She is certainly the poster child for ideology based journalism.
[17]
Guess I would be watching what Rendell is doing in PA right about now. What he does has to be telegraphing what the Dim side of the fence is doing about Murtha’s seat. I don’t know if a lot of Murtha’s grafters will be doing much. Most of those firms are now under FBI scrutiny. With no immediate advantage they will probably keep their traps shut and do nothing.
[18]
11 – Me too.
She was nice enough to give conservatives with an attitude an interview during that campaign.
