Iran Anniversary ‘Punch’ Will Stun West: Khamenei

Iran is making a lot of noise about possible attacks in the west. Hopefully Attorney General Holder and Homeland Security Secretary Napolatino have warned airport security against profiling sespicious looking Muslims and instructed the FBI that its first priority is to read  terrorists their “Miranda rights” in the event of a “man-made disaster.” We certainly would want to offend anyone and most certainly don’t want any terrorists to be deprived the rights Americans enjoy.

Supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said on Monday that Iran is set to deliver a “punch” that will stun world powers during this week’s 31st anniversary of the Islamic revolution.

“The Iranian nation, with its unity and God’s grace, will punch the arrogance (Western powers) on the 22nd of Bahman (February 11) in a way that will leave them stunned,” Khamenei, who is also Iran’s commander-in-chief, told a gathering of air force personnel.

His comments came as Iran said it would begin to produce higher enriched uranium from Tuesday, in defiance of Western powers trying to ensure the country’s nuclear drive is peaceful.

This year’s anniversary is expected to become a flashpoint between security forcesand supporters of opposition leaders Mir Hossein Mousavi and Mehdi Karroubi, who charge that the June re-election of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was rigged.

With these two in charge, what could possibly go wrong?

This is breaking news. The climate change story will be back around 11. I posted the climate change story before I read the morning headlines.

I am totally convinced that Napolitano and Holder are actively working against the interests of the US in the war on terror. Their actions are obstructive at best, and possibly conspiratorial.

The question is whether it is political to continue the battle against Bush policies, or whether it is loyalty to Obama’s goals of globalism.

Either way, it is dangerous to American security in different degrees.

thanks, saves me from reaching for the bottle of scotch. :)

I wonder though as to the meaning. The last time something similar was put forth it was a offensive missile test. Maybe they have assembled a nuclear device and intend to set it off rather than say a bombing attack at airports?

    Finned One,

I believe in Napolitano’s case its incompetence that rises to the level of criminal acts. Holder, yeah, he’s working against America. I even wonder if the WH has control over the man anymore.

That’s sounds about right for Napolitano. As for Holder, he is a left-wing zealot, and, in his current position, may be the most dangerous appointment ever confirmed by congress.

And now criticizing the President is working with Al Qaeda. I guess nobody criticized Bush in the war on terror, huh? Via Drudge:

WH: Some Critics ‘Serving the Goals of al Qaeda’

In an oped in USA Today, John Brennan — Assistant to the President and Deputy National Security Advisor for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism — responds to critics of the Obama administration’s counterterrorism policies by saying “Politically motivated criticism and unfounded fear-mongering only serve the goals of al-Qaeda.”

    Cheney’s Revenge
The Obama Administration is vindicating Bush antiterror policy.

In fact, the President’s changes in antiterror policy have never been as dramatic as he or his critics have advertised. His supporters on the left have repeatedly howled when the Justice Department quietly went to court and offered the same legal arguments the Bush Administration made, among them that the President has the power to detain enemy combatants indefinitely without charge. He has also ramped up drone strikes against al Qaeda and Taliban operatives in Pakistan.

However, the Administration has tried to break from its predecessors on several big antiterror issues, and it is on those that it is suffering the humiliation of having to walk back from its own righteous declarations. This is Dick Cheney’s revenge.

I’m trying really hard to dismiss this latest round of Iranian swagger.

When it was just ImaDinnerJacket I felt fairly comfortable in doing so. The “Punch” could have been the announcement of a new line of Burkas in time for Spring.

But Khamenei adds a different element. ImaDinnerJacket hasn’t had a shred of credibility for years, but Khamenei is a lot more careful in his pronoucements.

I hope it IS just the eagerly awaited unveiling (sorry) of the new Spring fashions from Tehran. But I think it’s one of two things:
    (1) a coordinated attack on Israel…starting from within
    (2) the detonation of a nuclear bomb

God forbid it is a combination of those two events.

I don’t expect it to be a major terrorist attack on Western soil…here or otherwise. Even the Iranians aren’t insane enough to telegraph THAT “punch”. And I don’t think just slaughtering your own citizens counts as a “punch” against the West. (kinda like striking a blow against your mortgage company by burning down your house)

    IMHO

I give a lot of credence to Michael Ledeen’s articles on Iran. He seems to be privy to the mood of the people and details of events going on in that country that alude other journalists.

Like Justrand I tend to be more concerned about threats when they are coming from Khamenei. Whether this “punch” he is talking about is aimed solely at the dissenters, or coupled with an attack on Israel or even this country is troubling….especially on the coattails of the recent terror assessment given for this country.

    a coordinated attack on Israel

I think this will be the case. Been wondering when Damascus would be destroyed for some time now. My money is on Iran doing it accidentally then blaming it on Israel. Frankly the destruction of Damascus WOULD be an eye opener to the West since Christians know what is left to be fulfilled and there are many watching…..

China PLA officers urge economic punch against U.S.

    BEIJING
Tue Feb 9, 2010 11:59am ESTBEIJING (Reuters) – Senior Chinese military officers have proposed that their country boost defense spending, adjust PLA deployments, and possibly sell some U.S. bonds to punish Washington for its latest round of arms sales to Taiwan.

    (snip)

China has the world’s biggest pile of foreign currency reserves, much of it held in U.S. treasury debt. China held $798.9 billion in U.S. Treasuries at end-October.

The loose change in cushions of the couch at the U.S. Embassy in Peking (I’m old fashioned) will just about cover our total debt to them!
