Drudge has an article about a rush shipment of condoms being send to Vancouver as the original supply of 100,000 for the Olympic athletes is running short.

Even, as the site’s resident hockey fan, I have a hard time getting excited about the Olympic hockey team or the Olympics in general. It’s not like 1980. The hockey players are professional athletes. To be perfectly honest, I’d just as soon see a Red Wings – Black Hawks game.

In the 1970s and 1980s the East Germans and Russians spent a fortune on training Olympic athletes so they could bring home the gold. Guess which country is obsessed with winning the Olympics and has replaced the East Germans and Russians?

Today’s Democrats are controlled by the radical Left, and it is more important to them to execute the permanent transformation of American society than it is to win the upcoming election cycles. They have already factored in losing in November — even losing big. For them, winning big now outweighs that.

Trouble is, celebs got their praises for being awesome this year (you don’t think they gave a crap, do you?) so they probably will call it very sad, but there won’t be much fanfare other than that. I could be wrong though. Hopefully Sean Penn will make it to Chile and save all the people, because he is awesome- and never mind that camera crew he is making sure gets the shot and the story every time, he is not doing it for the publicity. A true saint that guy. Always working behind the scenes to assist so he doesn’t hear his name praised. In fact, how did I know he was in Haiti? I probably dreamt it.

    Speaking of Sen. Snowe.

Snowe says Obama never gave her an open invite to health care summit

    By Anne E. Kornblut
Forget trying to agree on health care. The White House and Sen. Olympia Snowe cannot even agree on whether she had a long-standing invitation to the Thursday summit.

On this much both sides agree: On Wednesday, chief of staff Rahm Emanuel called Snowe (R-Maine) to invite her to the Blair House meeting with the president and lawmakers from both parties. She declined, saying she did not want to go around the established rules for including participants.

White House officials said President Obama had long ago told Snowe he wanted to include her in any public discussion about health care, and was trying to make good on that promise. When he saw that she was not on the list of members chosen by Republican leaders, he had Emanuel call to invite her, and did the same for Democratic Sen. Ron Wyden (Oregon).

But a top aide to Snowe disputed that account on Thursday. “The President never once in all their meetings or discussions ever told Senator Snowe she had an open invite to attend any future health care meetings,” John Gentzel, Snowe’s communications director, said.

“The first time they reached out to her about attending today’s summit was yesterday morning at 10 a.m. when Rahm called her – 24 hours ahead of time,” Gentzel said. “And if she had a standing invitation, why would they call to invite her? In fact, Senator Snowe talked to the President last Wednesday and he never mentioned the summit or health care. Sounds like they’re trying to create some history.”

Sounds like another sign that health care consensus is going to be hard to come by.

Steny Hoyer posted a propaganda piece with AOL help this morning. In it he says this:
Those are some of the reasons Democrats have worked so hard to pass a centrist health reform bill

centrist? Then it would have FLOWN through Congress…with 60 Dems cheering it on even if the Repubs all voted “no”. So, did the AOL “reporter” follow up with that? Uh, no…they left it at face value…as they did every other outright lie in the piece. I read it all and almost threw up!

But that it the Dem playbook…say outrageous things to friendly “reporters” and wait for the “Circle of BS” to complete. I’ll use this statement as an example:

AOL to Hoyer: “How would you characterize this Bill?”
    Hoyer: “Centrist”
    -then, a day later-
NY Times: “News sources are reporting this Bill is indeed ‘Centrist’”
    -next day-
Hoyer: “Even the NY Times is reporting that this Bill is ‘Centrist’”

They NEVER get tired of this game!

    KH,

Interesting but not surprising. You can’t buck the culture no matter how many rules you apply. Heck I had a paper route at 14. Was the paper a child labor abuser? Today they probably would be labeled as such. Heck I enjoyed it and my ‘boss’ who was 16 was a great guy.

I buck Apple because they trade on their image like the Dims do. Neither of which are pristine. The classic was Apple suing Microsoft over Windows 1.1 on infringement of the Mac interface. The problem for Apple was Xerox PARC was waiting in the wings to collect as Jobs nearly stole the whole idea from Xerox. Apple found that out and it is ultimately why they dropped the suit.

    http://article.nationalreview.com/426405/when-responsibility-doesnt-pay/mark-steyn

    “When Responsibility Doesn’t Pay

    Welfare always breeds contempt.

While Barack Obama was making his latest pitch for a brand-new, even-more-unsustainable entitlement at the health-care “summit,” thousands of Greeks took to the streets to riot. An enterprising cable network might have shown the two scenes on a continuous split-screen — because they’re part of the same story. It’s just that Greece is a little further along in the plot: They’re at the point where the canoe is about to plunge over the falls. America is farther upstream and can still pull for shore, but has decided instead that what it needs to do is catch up with the Greek canoe. Chapter One (the introduction of unsustainable entitlements) leads eventually to Chapter Twenty (total societal collapse): The Greeks are at Chapter Seventeen or Eighteen.”

While hanging out at our favorite neighborhood joint in Vancouver, Dix Barbecue & Brewery, I thought a girl sitting at the bar looked familiar. I couldn’t place her and I kept looking. One because she looked familiar and two because she was cute. I told my wife she looked familiar, that’s why I kept checking her out. ;) yipes….

Anyway, it was bugging me. I kept thinking who it was and it stuck with me for a few days. Them we were out somewhere and they had the Olympics on the TV. I looked and saw her on the screen. I knew it. It was that cute sportscaster with the dimples I remembered seeing on the Olympics coverage days before. She made an impression I guess. Before I could get a better look the TV went to something else.

I went home and searched the internet and found it was Martine Gaillard. I told my wife I finally figured out who it was. I think I took some video that day at DIX’s. I’ll have to dig through it and see. Apparently recorded sightings are rare.

She was just sitting there chatting away with two guys, dimples dimpling, and putting down some beer. She apparently has good taste in beer and likes to have fun.

“President Ford liked to say: “A government big enough to give you everything you want is big enough to take away everything you have.” Which is true enough. But there’s an intermediate stage: A government big enough to give you everything you want isn’t big enough to get you to give any of it back. That’s the point Greece is at. Its socialist government has been forced into supporting a package of austerity measures. The Greek people’s response is: Nuts to that. Public-sector workers have succeeded in redefining time itself: Every year, they receive 14 monthly payments. You do the math. And for about seven months’ work: For many of them, the work day ends at 2:30 p.m. And, when they retire, they get 14 monthly pension payments. In other words: Economic reality is not my problem. I want my benefits. And, if it bankrupts the entire state a generation from now, who cares as long as they keep the checks coming until I croak?”

    “Transformation [Andy McCarthy]

On Sean’s panel last night, when the conversation turned to how nervous Democrats supposedly are over what for now is teeing up like a very bad November, I felt like I was channeling Mark Steyn, Mark Levin and Rush. That is, I think our side is analyzing this all wrong: Today’s Democrats are controlled by the radical Left, and it is more important to them to execute the permanent transformation of American society than it is to win the upcoming election cycles. They have already factored in losing in November — even losing big. For them, winning big now outweighs that. I think they’re right.

I hear Republicans getting giddy over the fact that “reconciliation,” if it comes to that, is a huge political loser. That’s the wrong way to look at it. The Democratic leadership has already internalized the inevitablility of taking its political lumps. That makes reconciliation truly scary. Since the Dems know they will have to ram this monstrosity through, they figure it might as well be as monstrous as they can get wavering Democrats to go along with. Clipping the leadership’s statist ambitions in order to peel off a few Republicans is not going to work. I’m glad Republicans have held firm, but let’s not be under any illusions about what that means. In the Democrat leadership, we are not dealing with conventional politicians for whom the goal of being reelected is paramount and will rein in their radicalism. They want socialized medicine and all it entails about government control even more than they want to win elections. After all, if the party of government transforms the relationship between the citizen and the state, its power over our lives will be vast even in those cycles when it is not in the majority. This is about power, and there is more to power than winning elections, especially if you’ve calculated that your opposition does not have the gumption to dismantle your ballooning welfare state…….

At the end of the summit debacle, President Obama put the best face on a bad day by indicating that he intended to push ahead with socialized medicine and face the electoral consequences (“that’s what elections are for,” he concluded). He’s right about that.

For Republicans, it won’t be enough to fight this thing, then deride it if Democrats pull it off, and finally coast to a very likely electoral victory in November. The question is: What are you going to do to roll this back? What is your plan to undo this?”

#156 Well its a pretty good summary of what I have been saying for months….

We can laugh and call Obama & CO “stupid” and gloat about a big win in NOV…..but the leftist clearly have a plan to implement their ideology and to cement a permeant electorial advantage by turning more and more Americans into looters/moochers……

But if they get this CrappyCare stuff into law, then its us who support liberty and limited government who are in a bad spot….

If it gets into law, someone in the Repulican party had better have a real plan to get rid of this and to reform and/or eliminate all the other entitlement time bombs we have….

Read Styen’s article about Greece – a country that cant even afford to have child and yet nobody wants to give up their share of the loot….

In Europe we are watching a whole continent commit societial suicide right in front of our faces – the question before us is do we intend to follow that path or to clearly break from it before its too late….

Call it “gloom and doom” if you want, but this is not the time for irrational optimism or for relaxing and underestimating your enemy….
