Peter Pan Economics

2010 February 6
by justrand

In 1955 a live broadcast of Peter Pan, with Mary Martin as Peter, mesmerized America.  The recording of this was re-broadcast annually, and I remember watching it as a kid.  At one point Tinkerbell is dying, and the only thing that can save her is if all the little kiddies watching clap their hands to show they believe in Tink.

Mary Martin comes right up the camera and urges all the kiddies to clap.  It is a sweet moment in the TV show…and as kids we always clapped.

Yesterday the Obama administration’s Bullshit Labor Statistics (BLS) board asked us all to clap…to show we believed.  Believed that 20,000 FEWER people working, in a population that is GROWING would lead to a LOWER unemployment rate.  Of course, they also asked the rest of the world to believe.

The Wall Street Journal today reports that the initial “clapping” from the European kiddies quickly subsided:

Markets got a brief break from the selling after the U.S. Labor Department reported that the U.S. unemployment rate unexpectedly fell to 9.7%, but investors were ultimately confused by the figures, which also showed that the world’s largest economy continued shedding jobs in January

All the world’s languages share a common word, and they all spoke it yesterday: “HUH?”

    Sorry for the long post…

Pro-Abortion Rights Groups Go Nuclear on Tim Tebow Ad
Posted by Adam Graham in : Abortion
My latest column is up at Pajamas Media

Advocates of legalized abortion bristle when pro-life advocates call them pro-abortion. Their typical position is best defined by President Clinton’s position on the procedure: that abortion should be “safe, legal, and rare.”

Six years ago, I examined the abortion polls, and the polling data indicated Americans were quite conflicted on the issue. A change of wording changed the whole outcome of the poll.

A 2003 CNN poll did show some amazing results regarding abortion restriction questions asked in straightforward ways. Americans oppose abortion in the second (68%) and third (84%) trimesters. Americans likewise support informed consent laws (88%), a 24-hour waiting period (78%), parental consent for minors (73%), and even spousal notification for married women (72%).

Yet not many on the left advocate for these policies. Indeed, each restriction on abortion only passes as a result of herculean efforts to shepherd the bill through the legislature and then fend off years of court challenges. While many Americans are sincerely pro-choice, the leftist groups that claim to represent pro-choice Americans have shown themselves to be sincerely pro-abortion.

First consider the Super Bowl ad starring college football standout Tim Tebow. The ad is a thirty-second spot produced by Focus on the Family that tells the story of how Tebow’s mother continued her pregnancy despite complications that threatened her life. Abortion rights groups have gone nuclear with calls for the ad not to be aired and attacks on Tebow and Focus on the Family. (A second ad, also featuring Tebow, was announced by the pro-life group on the Friday before the Super Bowl.)

The ad doesn’t advocate for or against any legislation. It only encourages women to choose to continue their pregnancies. If the goal of pro-choice America is to reduce the number of abortions, why does anyone have a problem with the ad?

judyt 2009 was commenting yesterday that the primary goal of her boss in SBA was not to help small businesses, but rather to make Barack Obama look good. You can bet there are hundres of others in the federal government with the same goal, including the Bureau of Labor Statistics. They will do whatever is needed to make “The Won” look good and like is was in the Soviet Union and NAZI Germany, the media will compliently go along.

Polls represent a point in time. Were I the Dems I woukd be studying this and figuring when the best time to launch an initiative geared so that the point in time is election day. You can bet that their friends in the media are going to be working overtime to find dirt on Republicans in October. If there is a Mark Foley, they will find and expose him. If there is a John Edwards, they will ignore him as they did in 2008.

You can’t deny the media will do whatever it can to pull this out.

For days before this report came out the White House spin was that they believed there would be a “small increase in jobs” [the number 3 to 5 thousand)…but that there “might be a slight UPTICK in the unemployment rate”

Instead they got a HUGE drop in the unemployment rate and a dramatic LOSS of jobs. And again, aproximately 100,000 people theoretically ENTER the job force each month…thus ADDING 100,000 jobs per month has always been the standard for a FLAT unemployment rate.

Comedy Gold was when Baghdad Bob told the world: “There are NO American tanks anywhere near Baghdad!“…just as an M-1 tank rolled across a bridge in the background!

The Obama administration has some spinning to do!

  10. 2010 February 6 6:58 am

    9. Just,

Exactly my point. And the American people are and will figure this “jobs report” out themselves. That 360,000 Americans are no longer counted in the rate b/c they dont have benefits??? And we still lost 22,000 jobs WITH CENSUS HIRING !!!!

Look for 40% within 2 weeks.

eph, the media is more closely aligned with Dems now than they were in 1994. In 1994 they were dating…now they’re co-habitating!

CNN, MSNBC and the alphabet networks are “ALL IN”, and have been since the 2008 campaign. The only way they (and most of the print media) survive is if they can elect enough Dems to get a bail-out. in 2008 it was mostly ideaology…now it’s survival!

p.s. the NY Times is going after Governor Patterson right on cue. They want him OUT of the race…’cause he’ll lose in the general if he wins in the primary! I love it when the Dems eat their own!

Dang, I missed BJG Poetry last night.

But if we use Obamanomics, since I didn’t post, you guys reduced your number of “poets” by one, so you’re over all percentage of poetry actually increased. Pretty cool, huh?

Obamanomics can be used anywhere. If I take the number of girls who wouldn’t date me in high school and completely remove them from consideration, it turns out I was a chick magnet and didn’t even know it.

    Obamanomics applied to parking tickets:
If you get a parking ticket for a weekday, when parking isn’t free, you simply claim there were X weekend days when it WAS free that you couldn’t find a spot to park! Thus when those days are removed from the calendar, the Wednesday parking ticket you recieved was actually issued on SATURDAY…when it would have been free! Case dismissed!!

MAYBE if Obama was just another Dad you ran into at kid’s softball games…and whom you could tolerate for the duration of the season…fine. Maybe.

But put that same Putz (Obama) in charge of every aspect of everything and then watch as he “fundamentally transforms” (i.e. DESTROYS) my country, and his “likeability factor” goes into the toilet!

The wife back home says they have 38 to 44 inches of snow [white “global warming” (WGW)]already reported on the ground in our area back home (65 miles west of Washington D.C).

I stayed put and opted not to make the 320 mile one way trip home this weekend. She called this AM to tell me how much she “missed me” not being home–since there is nobody else to weild the second snow shovel and the whole burden is falling on her.

She said it is pretty (scenic) back there, but also not so pretty (LOTS of shoveling work).

JR, I remember Bush’s polls. When people liked the job he was doing as POTUS, they liked him; conversely, they hated him personally when they thought he job he was doing sucked.

The problem with Obama is that he was manufactured, and things that are manufactured can break. Remember that Superman villain who was able to absorb Superman’s power? The more power he absorbed, the less Superman was able to fight him so instead of fighting him, he started feeding all his power to the villain. In the end, the villain was destroyed because he couldn’t handle the power.

When I was a kid, I often worried that if the “Rooskies” started flinging nuclear tipped missiles at the US, the one headed for Washington DC might miss its intended target by a half of a degree and land on my hometown 65 miles west of DC.

Today I wonder if God is trying to express his wrath on the US government by fling his epic snowstorm at the DC crowd. I know DC is getting hammered with the snow too, but I thought God might use better aim and be more laser-like in his approach. Seems He is using a shotgun when He could have used a rifle.

Think of how impressive it would be if there was 36+ inches of snow everywhere inside the DC beltway, but not a flake anywhere outside the beltway.
