Recession Chugs on … Except in Government

White House apologists were quick to point to the unemployment rate decline from 10 percent to 9.7 percent as evidence that the recovery is gathering momentum and that President Obama’s policies — especially his $787 billion economic stimulus bill Congress approved last February — are “working.” But the back story behind the figures provides cold comfort.

First, the drop to 9.7 percent unemployment does not reflect the creation of new jobs that normally accompanies an economic recovery. The number of new jobs is actually declining. Total nonfarm payroll employment, for example, dipped by an additional 20,000 positions after a December decline of 150,000 positions. The unemployment rate the day Obama took office last year stood at 7.6 percent and 134.6 million people had jobs. When he signed the economic stimulus, Obama promised the bill would bolster the economy sufficiently to keep unemployment below 8.0 percent. But the unemployment rate has exceeded 8.0 percent since last fall, and total employment stands at only 129.5 million. The stimulus has been a bust.

Second, anybody who thinks the job situation is going to improve dramatically in coming months is not paying attention to what’s going on behind the unemployment rate. The Hudson Institute’ Diana Furchtgott-Roth notes that “the labor force participation rate declined from 64.9% to 64.6%, the lowest since August 1985. This means that more and more Americans are dropping out of the labor force. Last month 661,000 Americans left the labor force.”

Third, among the few sectors of the economy showing net employment growth over the past year is the federal government. The federal civil service is rapidly expanding as Obama increases the size of government, with 33,000 new positions being added in January alone. Only 9,000 of those new slots were for temporary census jobs. In other words, what we are seeing is good times for the public sector and the growing prospect of a continuing and perhaps even deepening recession for everybody else.

And all 25,000 permanent positions primary goal is to help OBAMA… not the United States, not the “clients” for that administrative function, not the US taxpayer… their goal is to SERVE Obama. … and they will say so with glee as if there is nothing wrong with serving a POTUS when working in a low-level non-political appointee federal government department/agency job.

    Obama is an economic terrorist.

American business, the producers in our capitalist society, recognized this in the fall of 2008 as his election became more of a possibility. The contraction started in earnest in November of 2008, and by January of 2009, his inauguration ushered in job losses of over 600,000. He was totally responsible.

This recession belongs to Obama, lock, stock and chicken pot.

We are still losing jobs in the productive side of the economy while gaining jobs in government. Obama is clueless that the government doesn’t produce anything material and not one dollar of profit from government is infused into the economy. All government activities are a drag on the economy.

This recession is far from over. When the Bush tax cuts expire next year, the economy will sink even further, and business will continue to keep their powder dry, and simply try to survive the Obama disaster.

It will take decades to recover.

Every time the unemployment numbers have come out in the Obama administration they have been white-washed by cheaters and liars led by the liar-in-chief Barack Obama. Obama has done nothing to grow our economy, in fact every thing he’s done is to it’s detriment.

The willing accomplices in the media are going to continue to feed the Obama sh!t sandwich to the public until either everybody gives up and stops fighting him or until the he’s been renedered impotent. We are in a race, the Patriots vs the Statists, to November 2nd.

We can’t give up. If you watched the Super Bowl game, there was one play that turned the tables against the Colts and set the Saints on to win. That was the missed 51-yard field goal attempt by Stover. The attempt was out of his range. Basically what the Colts coach was telling his players was that he didn’t think they could advance any further down the field. There were other bad coaching decisions. Playing conservative (small c) football right at the end of the first half gave the Saints 3 points. Exactly how much time do Brees and the Saints need to score?

Anyway, this trip down football lane is just a reminder that in order to win you have to stay agressive during the entire game and you can’t make any mistakes.

mullet: “It will take decades to recover”

yup, just like it took Britain decades to recover her world dominance after WWII. Oh wait…

sorry, mullet, there are some holes ya can’t climb out of…Obammy is digging this one extra deep.

    Prediction:
Sooner of later the Left will start to sell, literally, parts of the physical United States…just to pay some of the bills they have run up.

That is the telling piece in the article. It clobbers all the white wash the WH has been dishing out.

why are Obama’s numbers above 12% approval?

Welcome to hell America. Your children, their children, and all your descendants, laboring under the Obama/SEIU/ACORN yoke forever.

Obama will go. The STATE will last forever.

    Economic terrorism is right.

Americans who care for their children, step forward.

aureliusx: “why are Obama’s numbers above 12% approval?”

Because the number of people elbowing up to the nearest and fattest Gummint teat exceeds 12%. Add in Limousine Liberals (who have so much money they want to be generous with OURS), and rest of the soft-headed Left (and there are quite a few overlaps in that list) and you get to about 35%. I truly think that is his “floor”.

Barry could strangle a puppy using an American flag, while dressed in full Muslim garb and those 35% would still vote for him. That’s the sad reality.

Good read there MI. Though I kind of rankle at the word ‘govern’. It has a Euroist attitude I detest.

I didn’t watch the Super Bowl yesterday (hey the stores were empty), but today I saw a link on Drudge to the ad that Audi ran.

Did that ad actually play? What a riot. From the comments below the YouTube video it really pissed off liberals. What’s funny is that the ad was supposed to appeal to greenies. Too bad Audi didn’t understand those folks have “no sense of humor” about themselves.

Obama’s approval in DC area is in the 90% range… another reason I hate this town… being surrounded by so many stupid people is extremely depressing.
