What the Hell is wrong with YOU??
If you want to explore the Elitist “mentality” in full plumage,
then click through to the link (hattip Hotair for the link). Here’re a few teasers:
“the biggest culprit in our current predicament: the childishness, ignorance, and growing incoherence of the public at large.”
-and-
“We want Washington and the states to fix all of our problems now. At the same time, we want government to shrink, spend less, and reduce our taxes.”
-and my personal favorite-
“In this respect, the whole country is becoming more and more like California, where ignorance is bliss and the state’s bonds have dropped to an A- rating (the same level as Libya’s), thanks to a referendum system that allows the people to be even more irresponsible than their elected representatives.”
oh…and the TITLE of this vomitous mass?

Dems will find out what is wrong with me in Nov 2010 and 2012.
[2]
I didn’t make it all the way through the article. I had to stop at this gem:
The politicians thriving at the moment are the ones who embody this live-for-the-today mentality,
to which I can only say, if it didn’t mean the complete destruction of this great country, I’d gladly vote to hang around until tomorrow to see the outcome of the current government policies. Slate is an imbicle.
[3]
Dear God,
I can’t even read it; the arrogance, the condescension, the elitism…
[4]
RP…the scary thing is that this really does represent the Elitist snobs that infest the Left. We The People just CANNOT be trusted!
That line about California: “a referendum system that allows the people to be even more irresponsible than their elected representatives” REALLY sticks in the craw of Californians! The Referendum system is the ONLY check we have on our insane Legislature!!!
Sooner or later (I think sooner) the Left will come to the conclusion that we must “be cared for”…and “saved from ourselves”. tic…tic…tic

Go the the prediction thread and give us your prediction for the Super Bowl…

Judson Phillips, the Tea Party Nation leader, mentioned the importance of replacing bad people with good people and stressed board of education psoitions because the future depends on them.

Superbowl thread?

Anyone have the video coverage of Palin tonight?
[9]
Shudder. Not enough time to even know where to begin on that heaping pile of BS.
My one observation is that the author does not make the connection that the voters of CA said “We accept the tough choice no new taxes bring. Deliver on that.” via referendum then the CA Pols fail to do so. The voters are being very adult. They want the Pols to make the tough choices which is what they were elected to do and the Pols are failing at it.
Essentially the author does not understand the difference between Demand and Response when it comes such actions. Somebody pass the Lye please. I need to scrub my eyeballs clean.
[10]
As soon as I saw Slate.com loading I hit the rewind button back to BJG.
No need to go any further.

Well well. You want to know why this is how it is? Politicians are desperate to get public support on what is sure to be a wildly unpopular bill once the public takes the time to inform themselves of the verbiage contained in it. What do the politicians do? Give it a clever name. Lets say they have a bill that requires each homeowner slaughter their puppies and kittens with butcher knives in their own front yards while their children look on in horror. They must take the entrails and do a science lesson for the children where the children see how the insides looked before and after they were removed.
Damn! Good luck getting people to support THAT one, right? What is a politician to do? Why, give the bill a clever name, of course! So now you have the……
“Helping our nations children learn about puppies and kittens” bill. Sounds sweet, right? Why would voters bother reading the wording in a bill with such an innocent sounding name? So they hear from their democrat friends that this is the best bill ever, and only mean Republicans would be against a bill “for the children!”.
So the bill passes. Then the mandate goes out and parents are now faced with the chore of slaughtering fluffy and spot while their children cry. All of the sudden the puppies and kittens bill doesn’t sound so good does it? Later that day, Rasmussen calls asking the parents what they think of the bill, at which point the parents give it horrible reviews. Tadaaaaaaaaaaa

MFG,
What do you think of my new Gravatar?

A great essay that touches on the liberal pyschology of “charity” by stealing from your neighbors at the point of the government agent’s gun:
http://www.americanthinker.com/2010/02/our_national_blind_spot.html
“Our National Blind Spot
By Mark W. Hendrickson
Nobody will dispute the fact that there are differences between private and public behavior. We can all think of things that we do privately that we would never consider doing in public.
This holds true in politics, too. Specifically, the vast majority of Americans would never dream of stealing from another person, yet they have no compunction about wanting government to take property from some citizens to give it to others.
Friends with whom we would entrust the keys to our house and all our worldly goods are often enthusiastic supporters of government programs that redistribute wealth. Few of us would imagine that a Washington lobbyist would peek out his window at home, wait for his neighbors to leave, and then sneak into their houses to take their possessions. The very image is absurd. And yet, those same lobbyists spend their working hours trying to persuade politicians to grant favors to them and send the bill to someone else.”
[14]
All I can see is your old gravatar for some reason
I’ll put up a Super Bowl thread tomorrow morning EPH and I will live blog the game, it’ll keep me from cursing and screaming as the game goes on, which will be a relief to the Missus…

I saw the link was from Slate and didn’t even bother to click. The summary was more than enough for me.

MFG, holding down the shift key, press the ‘reload’ button in your browser. The page cache will be emptied and you should see the updated gravatars. It works for Firefox and I believe for Internet Explorer as well.

Yep, that about sums it up.

Palin’s speech starts in five minutes (9 PM Eastern time) and is being covered by CSPAN, FNC, CNN and MSNBC.
[21]
17. Everytime that pic is posted here I start cracking up so I stole it. hahahahaha
[22]
WEC – Makes me think of the new taxes passed in OR. The majority voted to raise taxes on those making $250,000. Of coarse people at or who see themselves reaching that amount voted against it. those who will never have to worry about such a tax voted for it. And they wonder why many Americans want a flat tax. How would elections work out if only people effected by a particular law could vote for/against it?
[23]
Not realizing that they just raised their boss’ taxes. Morons.
[24]
JM, your analogy in #11 is PERFECT!
[25]
eph..I love your new gravatar…but I’ll truly miss the old one! [sniff]
[26]
Not realizing that they just raised their boss’ taxes. Morons.
or that passively agreeing to incrimental tax increases overall leads to higher taxes. i.e. when the tax code was first implemented, there wasn’t a 38% bracket (federal alone). It got there by gradually inching up the percentage until paying such exhuberant percentages is accepted and no one bothers to question why the fed is entitled to nearly 40% of their income.

Sarah is on FOX and C-span live and is bringing the heat on Zero!!
[29]
RP -
No one can insert a knife, twist it around a few tiems and never stop smiling like Sarah.
[30]
I watched a little on a live internet feed, but there must be a ton of people on there because it kept pausing.
[31]
we watched the full speech on Fox…other than learning to punch her “applause lines”…she ROCKED!!!
We cracked up when she pointed out that Biden’s “Transparency Conference” was held behind CLOSED DOORS! Splendid!
[32]
Mrs. Justrand and I accompanied Justmary our two beautiful grandchildren in marching in a Tea Party parade on July 4th last year.
Every time the media portrays the Tea Party as “Evil violent Redneck scumbags”, I think of our family calmly walking a parade route, and shouting “violent” slogans like: “God Bless America”
yup…we were a fierce looking lot!
[33]
JR -
It’s amazing how the media is willing to commit hari kari – sacrificing their future as corporations or as employees to promote a liberal agenda.
2010 is an election year, that means fewer demonstrations and more time working to “replace bad people with good people.”
[34]
Geraldo seemed upset that he had to cover Sarah.
[35]
I am upset that FNC had Geraldo cover Sarah too. In fact, I watched on CSPAN.
[36]
I watched on PJTV and encountered the same problems as JM, dealing with constant pausing. Finally I clicked it off and then on again and the problem seemed to go away.
The speech was well received. Sarah hit on some good points. Her timing, though, seemed a bit jerky. But, she does continue to project an openness and honesty that is lacking in other public figures.
As time goes on, though, I see her more and more as a spokeswoman rather than POTUS material. She seems more comfortable looking and analyzing from the outside looking in, rather than visa versa.
[37]
Maybe FNC told him they would pull him if he didn’t. Both the Tea Party and Sarah Palin are newsworthy.
[38]
Hmm, Huck is giving Sarah praise. This could only mean he has decided not to run for POTUS???
[39]
I also think that Palin subtly addressed the McCain/Rand Paul endorsement which has gotten so many people disturbed. She openly admitted that she would support people who held the basics that she considered were important in a political agenda, and was comfortable if some of the side points didn’t exactly match her own.
She also seemed to indicate that her support was not going to be based on any party identification, but rather on the principles of the person running. As PJ Media pointed out, this could mean she might even be open to even supporting a conservative democrat!
[40]
Regardless of whoever becomes our next President, he/she will need a solid conservative Congress to do what has to be done to cut government costs. Rich Lowry had an interesting column on how the recession has been great for government workers. He said 2009 wis the first year ever that that there were more government employees at all levels who were union members than private sector union members.
Government union employees are going to fight us all the way.
[41]
I tend to agree with most of the quotes in main post, though perhaps for different reasons.

Juan Williams: “boohoo anti-obama”
Has JW ever said anything about Bush that wasn’t anti-Obama? Fox needs better talent.

Damn, that still leaves McCain out in the cold.

Sarah is the leader of the Tea Party movement now.
We will take over the GOP and the RINO’s will be running for cover.

Congratulations. According to Gallup, Montana is one of the states where Obama has the lowest approval ratings. Unfortunately, it has two Dem senators.
[48]
jan, these days ‘conservative Democrat’ is a non-sequitur….the few that there were have been driven from the party. The ones that pretend to be, are merely that, poseurs.
Do you see any of these so called conservative Dems really standing strong against their Masters? Nein, fraulein, nein.
[49]
Rush has been pointing out that Ogabe has been steadily using his slush fund to grow the public sector as fast as he can….these will be Dem voters. Unfortunately for him, this is America still, and even some of those people hate his guts.
I admit to being negative about our prospects but God is going to deliver this country and Israel one more time! If not, ’say hello to my little friends’!

Obama would only have to promise MT a version of ‘a chicken in every pot’: free tractor maintenance and the voters here would fall in love with him.
[52]
There were so many items she hit on well. One thing I thought stood out was using the term “homicide” bomber instead of “suicide” bomber, taking the emphasis off the agressor and drawing attention to innocent lives lost. I noticed she made a point to spend more than 9% of her speech on foreign policy.
[53]
Yes, TLS. I noticed that too, a big emphasis on Security. She has soooo many events upcoming as does the movement. This is gonna be fun and watching Ogabe and the Media will also be fun.
I appreciated her references to Lamestream Media……but I preferred Andrew Breitbart really calling them out!
As Eph likes to say, get the popcorn out!
[54]
I was checking out Gateway and someone there said that Sarah did not use the I word…and that, dear friends, is the difference between us and them. They believe that liberal man is perfect. Just listen and fall on your face in obedience.
[55]
excellent speech…she just needs to work on her timing. Haven’t watched all the Q&A, but I saw was solid!
[56]
#50 Thanks!!!
[57]
The only time I heard her use “I” was in a religious reference, something to the effect of “I believe God blessed this great nation”. So in essence, took accountability for her own beliefs and was mindful not to impose her religious belief onto the tea party movement. Very smart, I thought.
[58]
JR – made it halfway through the Q&A. there was one answer I would have changed. The question was something like if the conservatives take over the Congress, what items need to be address immediately or most importantly? (approx) She said cut spending, energy independence and return to a God fearing mindset in this country.
I think there may have been a lot of people out there who only see the tea party on msnbc, but who are suffering from Obama’s policies. I would have liked to see her throw JOBS in that answer, either as a replacement for 3 or included in cut spending. She did say energy policy would bring jobs, but I thought there was a lost opportunity there to address how policy effects employment.
[59]
#58 question was “what 3 items should be address”
[60]
12 months ago the ‘Tea Party Movement’ was a “fringe element” and Sarah Palin was “yesterday’s news”
Today, EVERY news media covered the Tea Party…and they ALL ran her speech in total…LIVE.
12 months. So much for “conventional wisdom”
[61]
I liked the part of her speech where she advised people not to pay attention to the “lame” stream media. She conversed directly with American people, not through the media’s filter.
Very Reaganesque.
[62]
This isn’t a movement, it’s a tsunami.
[63]
TLS
That was an excellent point you made on jobs, regarding flaws in Palin’s speech. She did talk about the unemployment numbers but did not tie in the topic of jobs to that number very well.
As far as being “Reaganesque,” I think Palin tried hard to be just that, bringing in Reagan’s name and quotes from him frequently in her speech.
For those of you who think she is going to drive RINOs out of the party, I wouldn’t be too sure of that. She seems to have her own definition of who she thinks is a RINO or not, and it may not agree with many of yours’. Palin is a free-thinking woman, not really bound by conventional political rhetoric. There are times she will inspire this crowd because of her outspoken words, and other times you will denounce her for making a departure from what is deemed Conservatism.
[64]
Jan, I didn’t mean to imply that Sarah or her speech was Reaganesque, but that she made a point of going over or around the media and letting everybody know she was doing it–much like Reagan did.
And there are small, seemingly insignficant stuff she says that makes me wonder why she says them. She spoke about going nuclear so we wouldn’t have such a large carbon footprint and most of the crowd stared blankley at her. Lowering our carbon footprint may be necessary at some point in time, but only when new technologies are developed have taken root.
I hope she picks up on the vibes.

“Posted by Michael F. Cannon
“Father of the Individual Mandate” Mitt Romney
The former nickname came from National Journal or The Wall Street Journal, I’m not sure which. The latter nickname comes from Institute for Health Freedom president Sue Blevins.
See here for details on an upcoming event in Dallas where Goodman’s National Center for Policy Analysis will play host to Romney.
It should be an interesting event. With all 40 Republican members of the U.S. Senate, including moderates like Sen. Olympia Snowe (R-ME), voting to declare an individual mandate unconstitutional…with 35 states moving legislation to block an individual mandate…with the Heritage Foundation rebuking an individual mandate…and with Virginia’s Democratically controlled Senate approving legislation to block an individual mandate…well, Romney may have a tough road to hoe with the conservatives who typically attend NPCA events.”
Compulsary Health Insurance IS GOVERNMENT RUN HC!
Romney is unrepentenat about his bad deal with the leftist/democrats – it has lead to the State government running HC because the state now dictates what insurance everyone MUST have, how much it will cost, what it will cover, and now has thousand of new medical welfare dependednts via subsides….
Taxes and insurance premiums are soaring at doubel the national average….
The number of Medicare welfare case in MA has doubled….
Their is NO reduction in costs for “free riders” since people evade the insurance mandate by paying the small fine….
And the state of MA is now rationing care paid for by both the state and private insurance (since they specifiy what is covered for insurance)…..
Governement MUST absoulutely stay out of Medical Care and health insurance – period, no exceptions!
Romney recently claimed on the L. Ingram show that his sucker deal with the Democrats was “conservative” and encouraged “personal responsibility”……
What a crock of crap!
Their is nothing “conservative” about letting the government takeover and run medical care and health insruance!
Nor is their anything remotely close to real “personal responsibility” when you take away everyone choice/freedom/liberty and use government FORCE to impose your personal bais on everyone!
Kudos to the Patriots in the state of VA who will likely soon BAN COMPULSARY INSURANCE!
Freedom and Liberty MUST reign in medical care and health insurance!
