Fighting Off The Balrog Bill Of The Demon Pass!

2010 March 17
by INC

In case you’ve forgotten your Tolkien, the Balrog is a demon of the deep.

Falling Into The Abyss:

The Fog of War Has Enveloped The Speaker:

The Dem Leaders and White House will not acknowledge the political damage they are inflicting on their friends and colleagues. The White House and Speaker are destructively arrogant and irrational — the Joker — writ large.

They do not care, are not cognizant and really are blind to the poison they are spreading to Dems, while they insist their friends and colleagues eat it….

CBO crumbles under health workload:

CBO Director Douglas Elmendorf told House Appropriations Legislative subcommittee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.) that his staff has been working “100-hour weeks” and cannot keep up with the budgetary and economic impact queries lawmakers have about health care.

“Analysis of competing health care proposals absorbed a huge share of the agency’s resources, and CBO analysts in that area have worked flat out for more than a year,” Elmendorf said today. “…Considerable congressional interest in analysis of health care issues is likely to persist and …the almost round-the-clock schedule maintained this past year by CBO’s current staff cannot be maintained much longer.”

No CBO tonight… clock won’t start ticking until it comes out.

A Congressional Budget Office estimate on the cost of certain proposed House changes to the Senate bill is late. Sources tell me that the original scoring of the bill tripped the psychological barrier of $1 trillion in costs for the program’s first years, forcing a last-minute scramble for even more tax increases to pay for it. One option — accelerating imposition of a tax on high-cost “Cadillac” health care plans — will anger labor unions whose members often enjoy such plans.

Is the Union Carveout Falling Apart?

…it turns out that to get the bill through reconciliation, Democrats may have to walk back promises to Big Labor…

Meanwhile, the Senate Democrats’ process guru Kent Conrad (N.D.) says some of the items in the House reconciliation measure may be “Byrd-able”…

Idaho passes law promising legal challenge to individual mandate in ObamaCare

Virginia AG: ‘Should you employ the deem and pass tactic, you expose any act which may pass to yet another constitutional challenge.’:

This is an improper purpose under the bicameralism requirements of Article I, Section 7 of the U.S. Constitution, one of the purposes of which is to make our representatives fully accountable for their votes.

Landmark Legal Foundation to File Suit to Stop President’s Health Plan if ‘Slaughter Rule’ is Used:

Mark R. Levin, president of Landmark Legal Foundation, today issued a warning to the leadership of the U.S. House of Representatives about the possible use of the so-called “deem and pass,” “self-executing,” or “Slaughter Rule” to enact H.R. 3590, the legislative version of President Obama’s healthcare proposal that has been previously approved by the Senate. If this tactic is employed, Landmark will immediately sue the President, Attorney General Eric Holder and other relevant cabinet members to prevent them from instituting this unconstitutional contrivance.

Dead Congress Walking:

…This is beginning to look like The Godfather crossed with a Marx Brothers movie…

    Great imagery!

We could use some heroes about now…Congressoinal heroes. And at this point we must look for them admidst the Democrat Party…for only THEY can stop this! The Republicans are indeed standing firm, but there aren’t enough of them!

btw, someone may have mentioned this on the other thread, but Mark Levin is indeed preparing a lawsuit if the Dems use the “Slaughter Rule”

We bandied the concept around the other day…Mark’s got it set to go!

As counter intuitive as it may seem, it might be beneficial if the “slaughter rule” was used, as that would have a better chance of being overturned by SCOTUS.If it passes outright without slaughter, we have less to challenge, except perhaps the individual mandate.

As for the imagery–well, it’s better than using the wheels coming off the bus, and since “deem it pass” has rapidly become demon pass I thought it worked!

IP/#4, you have a valid point.

With Bret Baier Obama blew off such small stuff as using Constitutional procedures. I don’t think he realizes that didn’t go off very well.

I truly do not think it is any longer a matter of whether Queen Piglosi can muster the votes…I believe she can.

I think the final horse-trading is amongst the 18 “Un-Decideds”.

And I think the only indecision left is which ones draw the “short straws” and vote “Yes”…effectively ending their political careers. But from that group will, I believe, come the final votes. Those who do not draw the “short straws” will lustily proclaim:
I remained a true Bue Dog!
Bullshit. If you’re still “un-decided” at this point it is because you either haven’t been bought yet…or the “straws” haven’t yet been drawn.

The war doesn’t end if/when they pass this abortion…but a big battle will have been lost.

I WILL keep calling though. Miracles DO happen!

Again this is something you don’t see in the MSM.

Moody’s fears social unrest as AAA states implement austerity plans.

“Growth alone will not resolve an increasingly complicated debt equation. Preserving debt affordability at levels consistent with AAA ratings will invariably require fiscal adjustments of a magnitude that, in some cases, will test social cohesion,” said Pierre Cailleteau, the chief author.

“We are not talking about revolution, but the severity of the crisis will force governments to make painful choices that expose weaknesses in society,” he said.

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/economics/7450468/Moodys-fears-social-unrest-as-AAA-states-implement-austerity-plans.html

You can 1) tax more, 2) reduce benefits to those on the entitlement train or 3) tax more and reduce benefits. A fine line Washington is unable to walk. Add in Health Care and over she goes.

As I have said before, “this is not going to end well”.

“We are not talking about revolution, but the severity of the crisis will force governments to make painful choices that expose weaknesses in society,” he said. To quote that great line from Princess Bride by Inigo Montoya: “You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means. “

Gregg just admitted on Greta the GOP is going to laydown for Recon in the senate… said they will offer up some amendments but not play vota-aroma games.

First of all that’s some BS right there WTF???? Second of all if that is even the case why the Fugg would you put that message out to house members right now? fugging idiot.

When it all collapses, I suspect it will be swift. We are a little under 50% of our debt being foreign owned. But pitch the foreign investors away for a moment. Look at internal –

1st — Federal Reserve to the tune of $4.8Tn
2nd — Mutual Funds to the tune of $679.1Bn
5th — States and Munis to the tune of $522.7Bn
6th — US Pension funds to the tune of $456.4Bn
11th — US Insurance companies to the tune of $126.4Bn
14th — US Banks to the tune of $107.3Bn

You see the cascade effect that will have on the economy? If just the bottom 3 on the list had their holdings zeroed to worthless on their portfolios its lights out for the economy. None of these industry segments could afford the hit on their balance sheets.

    Walgreens “Opts out”

Effective April 16, Walgreens drugstores across the state won’t take any new Medicaid patients, saying that filling their prescriptions is a money-losing proposition — the latest development in an ongoing dispute over Medicaid reimbursement.

KH, my point is, if the Dims from the get go think the R’s are going to fight is out amendment by amendment they may look for ways to procedurally block that. Whereas if you wait till you are on the floor then flood the zone with amendments, then it is too late to look for a solution. Its rope and dope.

I’m one of the “eff’ed Kalifornians”, Mr. President. bc3b assures us we will first be shipped to the “Detroit Area Re-education Kamp” (DARK), where he has reserved us Hut 1369…for its excellent view of the latrine area. Assuming we can escape from there, will we need special “code words” or hand signals for entry into the Republic of New Hampshire?

It’s much as advertised. Thanks to its spending provisions mainly starting in 2014, the reconciliation bill combined with the Senate version has a total cost of $940 billion, with deficit savings of around $138 billion:
