Stupak Thinks HC Doesn’t Have the Votes in House

Bart Stupak, who has been waging a courageous battle against his own party leadership, as of last night believed that nancy Pelosi doesn’t have enough votes to ram the Senate bill through the House. A few years ago, Stupak’s son was taking a drug that caused depression and committed suicide. Perhaps this has helped to shape his pro-life views.

Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Mich.) said Monday he thinks House Democratic leaders are not close to having the votes to pass health reform.

In an interview with Fox News’ Greta Van Susteren, the anti-abortion rights lawmaker said, “I’d be surprised if they have 200 votes.”

House Democratic leaders need 216 to pass the bill.

Stupak noted that he is not counting votes with Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and her lieutenants, calling his figure “a guesstimate.”

Democratic leaders have a very different vote count, claiming they have, or are very close, to having the votes to pass a bill.

Stupak and other anti-abortion rights Democrats who voted for the House bill last year are vowing to vote no unless the abortion language is changed in the final measure. The Michigan lawmaker said there is a lot of “arm-twisting” to attract votes, adding that leadership officials are asking members what they want in the yet-to-be-released reconciliation package to secure their votes.

    I pray he’s right

I suspect they are within 4 or 5 votes now, and will get the rest by assorted payoffs, kickbacks and bribes

I put nothing at all past these gangsters

Al Capone/Chicago thuggery in all of its glory…

Does anyone here remember a time like this HC Bill, where there has been so much uncertainty, political finagling, so much behind-the-scenes deals, lies, threats, hype, major arm-twisting — all for the “good” of the people, who don’t want this “good” descending on them???

I don’t remember anything like the “Louisiana Purchase” or the “Cornhusker Kickback” in the past.

janzam, I cannot. Even Johnson’s “Great Society” BS didn’t sink to this.

The reason is clear: THIS represents the Federal Government ascending to a position of power it was NEVER meant to have. If the State of Rhode Island, for example, wanted to impose this crap on their citizens then people there could MOVE if they didn’t like it. But when the FEDERAL gummint does this there is NO WHERE to go.

IF the Dems succeed they will be literally handing the Federal Government the power of life & death. They assume they will always be in power, of course…but they won’t be. And I don’t want EITHER side to have this power!

This may be THE most critical moment in the history of the U.S. If we allow the Federal government this power, they will NEVER let it go.

This usurpation of authority is a two edged sword, that can come back to haunt these ditch carp, when the repubs take over. Those who live by subterfuge, can be hosed by subterfuge.

Is it not correct that even if this upcoming vote fails, there is still the fact that the original house/senate bills that have already passed can still be “reconciled”?

I just don’t know where to start, these days, in dealing with the lies that Obama regularly uses in order to get his “message” out there!!!

Is it the whopper he dropped yesterday, about how small business could possibly experience a 3000% drop in expenses, under Obamacare, money that could be used towards employees “raises!” What is this man smoking? Is it the stuff he used as he talked about our 57 states when campaigning for the job he is now mishandling!

Or, what about his anecdotal use of Natoma Canfield, the poor cancer patient he has been trotting out in his speeches to sell Obamacare to the people, who are just too dumb to appreciate how wonderful it really would be to have it as our master health care plan.

Under the current fatally flawed, cruel, heartless, unforgiving, greedy system, Ms. Canfield is getting some of the best care available for her condition, and while the hospital would like to recoup at least some of the money they’re spending on her, they’re going to do all they can to do so in as kind a way as possible: helping her get state aid, qualifying her for charity care, or other avenues of payment — but have already ruled out taking her home.

The oncologists are not running a credit check on her before her chemotherapy. The nurses are not treating her pain medications as COD. There is no running meter on her hospital bed. And no one at the hospital is chastising her for remaining essentially unemployed for 12 years.

Under ObamaCare, though, as Jim Hoft noted, her prior bout with cancer might not have been detected as quickly as it was — the screenings that caught it would have been deferred until she was older, as she wasn’t in a statistically significant risk group.

Oh pleeese…no, you mean Ms. Canfield was treated decently under our old evil health care system!!!!

Read more about this shameless hoax perpetrated by the Obama Administration onto a people who should be factchecking every statement this guy and his minions make!

I believe Drudge is also carrying a story about this hapless victim, of our demcratically maligned HC system, as well!

Obama is at -18 (45/54)in the daily Ras. His overalls have been rather steady recently. The greater fluctuations occur in the strongly approve/strongly disapprove.

Went to get some routine tests yesterday, found out my cholesterol etc was fine, I asked the Nurse Practitioner what she thought of the health care legislation, she hesitated, I said, “Tell me what you honestly think.”

She said “They’re going to kill the old people”

Said it matter of factly, this is someone with 30 years of experience

I’ve spoken to ten or twelve people in the medical field recently and every one of them, without exception, is VEHEMENTLY opposed to this, red in the face furious over it

excellent article in the WSJ…read and pass on:

and yes…this WILL kill old people. I firmly believe this is part of the plan, as it reduces the Social Security shortfall as well. I am NOT kidding p.s. the Dems yesterday were defending having abortions paid for by saying: “it will help keep the population down”

To add to your anecdotal story (something the dems are good at), I heard an interview with a doctor recently. He was attending a HC seminar. At the end the audience, of approximately 100 physicians, were asked how many would remain in practice should this HC garbage (my wording) pass. Guess how many hands were raised???

    ONE!!!

Another question….does anyone know the size of the crowd. Most of the CNN shots were close-ups, which usually means a small crowd.

Never mind — found an answer to my own question.

Navigate: POLITICO Ben Smith DNC mocks tea party numbers Tea Partiers planned to “flood the halls of Congress” to protest health care legislation, a plan that prompted Democratic leaders to instruct their members to respond with politeness and Twinkies.

The 10 a.m. Washignton, D.C. rally, though, wasn’t quite on the scale of some earlier events. The communications director for the Democratic National Committee, Brad Woodhouse, emails that his count is 300 attendees.

“I’ve been to birthday parties that drew more people,” he emails. “More people attended my wedding than went to the tea party kill the bill rally on the hill.

An organizer, Jennifer Hulsey, pegged the number at closer to 2,000, though some had come late, and said the group considered the morning rally a success. There are other rallies on the same theme around the country and at members’ offices.

The more important test will come in visits to the offices of key members of Congress. If you’re there, send me a picture.
