Teas Own Utah GOP?

It appears that may actually be the case –

In a surprising development that sets the stage for a dramatic political showdown, tea party and grass-roots conservatives tell Newsmax they have seized control of Utah’s GOP delegate system, and are now in a position to select which candidates will represent the party in the midterm elections.

“Our feeling is that the majority of the Republican Party delegates are now tea party people,” Brian Halladay, one of the founders of the grass-roots Utah Rising organization, tells Newsmax.

Utah GOP leaders say they can’t be sure, but concede the activists’ assessment may be accurate.

I have suggested several times that the Teas in the State were gearing up to pack the GOP caucuses. It appears they have succeeded in that effort.

Utah has a unique system. Local caucus representatives elected to their position, elect state chapter representatives who then go to the convention to cast their votes. If a candidate gets 60% of the caucus votes they are the winner. Otherwise there is a primary runoff between the two highest scored candidates.

If the Newsmax assessment is accurate then Bennett the incumbent, who is running a distant third in this race is at a tactical disadvantage. Bennett has voted 180 degrees to the Teas stated positions.

If it comes to pass that the Teas do indeed control the GOP in Utah it should send a cold shiver through Pols in several other Western states like NV and CO.

Cold Warrior in Arizona has a blog http://theprecinctproject.wordpress.com/ at which he has been pushing for people to become Neighborhood Precinct Committeeman for the purpose of taking over state GOPs.

He has numerous links including this post at Eagle Forum (Phyllis Schlafly’s organzation) that is about the Precinct Committeeman.

The Most Powerful Office In The World
Is NOT The President of the United States!

I hope we are seeing the beginning of a huge grassroots change.

Oh noes! Stalinist purges of conservatives to the left of me, teabagging racists having violent demonstrations to the right of me.

Here I am stuck in the middle with you.

INC, thanks for the links. I will have to check them out.

Nevada is going to be interesting to watch. Filing dates passed a month ago so both parties are stuck with who that have as possibles. Fact March 23rd was the last day to withdraw candidacy. So even if Harry withdraws now, his name will still be on the ballot come the primary in June. The Dims hitched their wagon to a plug.

aureliusx, as I mentioned on the other thread, I would love to see bumper stickers with your slogan:

Good for Utah. The only question that remains is will they vote the tea party agenda or will they vote religion, like everything else in that state. That is one issue that sets them apart.
