Day 70: Obama Accepts Foreign Help

It took 70 days, but Barack Obama finally accepted foreign assistance in cleaning up the Gulf oil spill.

Many of these countries offered assistance during the first days after the spill, but Obama declined their help. Apparently placating his union supporters outweighed the damage that was being done to the environment. Yet, there has been relatively little criticism from the media or environmental groups.

June 29 (Reuters) – The United States will accept offers from a dozen countries and international agencies to help contain and clean up the BP Plc (BP.L) (BP.N) oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, the State Department said on Tuesday.

“The United States will accept 22 offers of assistance from 12 countries and international bodies, including two high-speed skimmers and fire containment boom from Japan,” the U.S. State Department said in a statement.

The United States has already accepted offers of assistance from the Netherlands and Norway, among others. It is also considering offers from countries as diverse as China, Kenya and Vietnam.

Overall, 27 countries have offered assistance ranging from vessels and dispersant, to fire boom and technical personnel. In most cases reimbursement would be required.

To be clear, the acceptance of international assistance we announced today did not mean to imply that international help was arriving only now,” State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley said in an e-mail.”In fact, before today, there were 24 foreign vessels operating in the region and nine countries had provided boom, skimmers and other assistance. As early as May 11th boom arrived from Mexico, Norway and Brazil.”

Here’s a video that recaps Obama’s inaction with criticism from the left.

Kenya could offer to take him back.
    That would be helpful.

and yet the EPA is still refusing to allow the Dutch skimmer ships to operate. Reason? They return processed water to the sea that is “only 99% pure“.

The EPA standard for water discharge is 99.98% pure.

And THAT is your government at work!!

99% pure. That’s better than the discharge requirements from sewage plants. The paper pushers have taken over the asylum.

How ‘pure’ is the ocean anyway??? I mean seriously? It’s not like Lake Erie bad, but how pure can it be under ordinary circumstances?

But it’s okay to continue to let the spill take over the Gulf…for a microscopic percentage point.

Dear God. Is this the definition of insanity?

I find it difficult to dwell on this oil spill because it makes me so mad thinking how Obama has mishandled it. When I saw that on day 70 Obama is now accepting some international help.

What is wrong with that man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This piece goes through just one state’s interaction with Obama’s bureaucracy — Alabama’s efforts to curb the oil spill were thwarted at every turn in the road!

Now the greatest crisis of all looms on the horizon as hurricanes sweep into the Gulf. Should one hit offshore, it will destroy all the booms that have been placed to stop the oil from reaching shore. And there are no more booms anywhere in the world, according to Alabama disaster relief officials. “There is no more inventory of booms anywhere on earth,” one told me in despair.

The political impact of this incompetence has only just begun to be felt. While administration operatives are flying high after a week in which the president’s ratings rebounded to 49 percent, per Rasmussen, after his firing of Gen. Stanley McChrystal, the oil is still gushing and the situation is about to worsen.

The obvious fact is that Obama has no executive experience, nor do any of his top advisers. Without a clear mandate from the top, needed efforts to salvage the situation are repeatedly stymied by well-meaning bureaucrats strictly following the letter of their agency policy and federal law. The result, ironically, of their determined efforts to protect the environment has been the greatest environmental disaster in history. But some turtles are OK!

The first black president is also the first communist president, and the first Chicago thug president, and the first totally incompetent president.

    Lots of firsts there.

Also, the first president with elephant ears who cannot hear the people.

I know, I know, Justrand…I am just so frustrated with this man. As my husband said this morning “He is the worst president in our history!!”

This oil spill has been a tutorial or what not to do. And, yet the media lap dogs just muse over all Obama’s unforgivable mistakes!

    Disgusting………….

The Dollar Tree assistant store manager wouldn’t comment on camera, but said the flag is sold as a “patriotic banner” — not as an American flag.

    Oh, well ok then….

I am trying to think of how they came up with that number, but I get nothing, unless they think we have 60 states and they are trying to be ahead of the game with Puerto Rico.
