Hatch: GOP Won’t Filibuster Kagan

Senator Orrin Hatch, who epitomizes the “old guard” of the GOP in the Senate says the Republicans are unlikely to “Bork” Elana Kagan. The Democrats are willing to play hardball, but the “old guard” of the GOP wants to “play nice.”

What’s there to be concerned about? After all, Supreme Court appointments are for life and Kagan is 50, so if she lasts as long as Stevens, she’ll only be on the Supreme Court for 42 years.

Apparently, the fate Hatch’s good friend Bob Bennett has been totally lost on the aging senator from Utah. 2012, when Hatch is up for reelection, can’t come soon enough.

Republicans are unlikely to look to filibuster Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan, a senior member of the Senate Judiciary Committee said Monday.

Sen. Orrin Hatch (Utah), the second-ranking Republican on the committee who has at times served as its chairman, downplayed the likelihood of Republicans looking to block Kagan’s nomination as the Judiciary panel begins hearings on her this morning.

“I don’t think anyone’s going to do that,” Hatch said during an appearance on MSNBC when asked if a filibuster was in order. “After all, there’s 59 Democrats, and I suspect there’ll be a few Republicans who will vote for her regardless.”

While Hatch had miscounted — he didn’t take into account the death of Sen. Robert Byrd (D-W.Va.) early Monday morning — Democrats still remain firmly in control of the Senate with 58 seats. West Virginia Gov. Joe Manchin III, a Democrat, could also appoint an interim senator in time to vote on Kagan’s nomination before the whole floor.

She is diabetic, so there is no way she will make it to 92. Not wishing ill will on anyone, just saying.

Mullet, they don’t have a can, or a clue on how to get won, or are too stupid enough to open it if they did have one.

Why filibuster? to hold this nomination until Anwar is pumping oil.

Dems did that for 8 years. We must wipe the slate clean in the Senate.

#7 You will, just make sure you eat right at all times (none of the “this one bite won’t hurt”) and listen to your doctor. Stay in shape, etc.

#16 I know…..and it isn’t a mean thing to say, it is just the way it is typically. One of my girlfriends has type 1, and she was always in such great shape because she knew she had to be. She was told not to expect to live an extremely long life though. It sucks.

The answer is very clear. Hatch probably intends to retire when his term up. So he has no fear of being trounced.
