… with arrest warrants! The blast from Bell, CA reaches its nadir. The Mayor and seven council members were arrested —

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – The mayor, former city manager and most of the city council in a Los Angeles suburb were arrested on Tuesday and charged with misappropriating $5.5 million in public funds in what a prosecutor said amounted to treating the city’s coffers like “their own piggy bank.”

Eight current and former Bell officials were arrested, including former City Manager Robert Rizzo, 56, whose nearly $800,000 salary ignited a furor over public pay and pensions across California.

Rizzo who was cast by law enforcement as the “unofficial czar” of a city government gone bad.

The salary revelations by a newspaper in July sparked investigations up and down the state, and have made government accountability into an issue in the governor’s race for financially foundering California.

Bell Mayor Oscar Hernandez, City Council members George Mirabal, Teresa Jacobo and Luis Artiga, former City Council members George Cole and Victor Bello and former Assistant City Manager Angela Spaccia all were arrested.

The charged City Council members were being paid nearly $100,000 a year for their part-time jobs overseeing the affairs of the blue-collar city with a population of roughly 40,000.

This action needs to be spread far and wide to spread fear in the minds of public officials. Arrests need to be issued in every municipality where funds have been misappropriated under the guise of civil government.

    Jan,

Saw that. So much for high brow econometric modeling as a political statement.

If the last two years were a test tube for Larry Summers’ economics theories, I think they blew up in his face.

    Jan,

Fully expect to see quite a few exits. More likely to find more Rahm type personnel. Obama has to find a way to blunt the Tea Party movement or the Dims are on the way to exodus in the political wilderness. (As will many RINOs)

I just don’t know which one had the worst ideas.

    Quite the collaboration, I say.

I remember Steven Moore surprised by some of Christine Romer’s positions. He felt they were contrary to what she had believed and taught. Her leaving did not surprise me, I always felt she was not comfortable in the Obama administration.

What some people will do to have power or be near power.

Who else gets thrown under the Obama bus when the voters make a change and are blamed for doing what the one has requested.

If you ever had doubts about the bias that is inherent in Wikipedia’s business model, take a look at the early life and education of Christine O’Donnell’s wiki entry.

    It reads in part…….

“O’Donnell attended Fairleigh Dickinson University where she initially aspired to a career in the theater[10] and did course work toward a B.A..[11][12] She came to a turning point during college when she found herself drinking excessively and having sexual relationships with men with whom she lacked a strong emotional connection.[10]”

Mullet that is a sore spot with me about Wikipedia. They need a policy that living persons are the only ones that may enter biographies or least have override permissions/ lock setting on the entry.

Can she not overwrite that and get rid of the reference?

Oh, keep in mind it may not be a business model thing. Anybody can go in there and update Christine’s wiki entry. Fact it was just modified again —

Sounds like it was written by a Coons staffer.
