Ras: Race Relations Deteriorating Under Obama

2010 October 6
by bc3b

Perceptions about the state of black-white relations in America have fallen dramatically since the summer of 2009. But voters are still more optimistic about that relationship than they are about relations between whites and Hispanics and between blacks and Hispanics.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that just 36% of voters now say relations between blacks and whites are getting better. That’s down from 62% in July of last year at the height of the controversy involving a black Harvard professor and a white policeman.  That number had fallen only slightly to 55% in April of this year.

Twenty-seven percent (27%) now say black-white relations are getting worse, up 10 points from July 2009, while 33% think they’re staying about the same. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

African-Americans are much more pessimistic than whites. Thirty-nine percent (39%) of whites think black-white race relations are getting better, but just 13% of blacks agree.

Confidence in the nation’s course among African-Americans soared after Barack Obama’s election. But then several prominent Democrats, perhaps most notably former President Jimmy Carter, suggested that opposition to the president’s health care plan was motivated in part by racism. Only 12% of all voters agreed in September of last year, but among blacks, 27% felt that way and 48% were undecided.

I have not heard it expressed, so either the black community is blissfully unaware, or I am just nuts. But it will be a cold day in February before we see another black presidential candidate this century. I am afraid Obama has so poisoned the water than even qualified black candidates of the future will not be considered. That’s sad.

I suspect you are right, but it’s not hard to imagine a second wave of white guilt hitting in another 15 to 20 years from now.

Obama also poisoned the water for unqualified, arrogant, done-nothing, know-nothing hyped-up and worthless dickwads.

    But that part ISN’T sad.

I’m not sure I agree that the water has been poisoned for blacks. But I do think it will be a cold day in hell before we ever again elect an unproven, media created, sound-byte, hip and trendy “look how evolved and post-racial we are”, United Colors of Benetton candidate.

For decades, we heard that blacks were incapable of racism because racism is projected from positions of power, and blacks had no power.

Well, now we have a black President, the most powerful man in the world, and a black Attorney General, the chief law enforcement officer in the country.

That old argument seems to be turned on its ear.

Why, then, do we hear obamacare was opposed because of racism? Why do we see instances of white voter intimidation go without prosecution?

    Who are the true racists?

    JR, MPT,

But would a slightly younger Alan West, having gained some experience in a Governor’s chair, have a shot at being president? My gut says not for a long, long time.

Whites will still remember Obama’s saga. Blacks will be throwing the uncle tom label at such a person. Latinos will just be suspicious because. I just don’t see how it could be possible to bring a coalition together that a black can win now.

ip #9 – yeah, I know. By “we”, I obviously don’t mean BJGers. I mean that we as a nation voted for his clown. Break that down to the individual and many citizens didn’t vote for him…but more did vote for him. And if we as individuals took part in the electoral process, then “we” in the collective sense voted this guy in.

BTW. RCP has Republicans with no tossups at Repubs 50-Dimwits 50. That is the first time we have reached that threshold. I believe we will be 54-46, because RCP puts every poll, no matter how wild it is in their average. As I have said before, there is no way the polls can measure turn out, but the enthusiasm gap is R 2 to 1 dems.

This is completely off topic, but the media are complete morons. Journolism schools are apparently so busy teaching them how to think from a liberal prospective that they can’t find time to teach them how to actually write a story. Read this, and no, there is no “snip”, nothing missing, this is exactly how it appears:

A 68-year-old tourist died after he who was pulled from a water feature at SeaWorld Orlando’s Aquatica, officials said.

Orange County Fire Rescue said the man was unresponsive at 11:12 a.m. but his condition improved when he was transported to nearby Dr. Phillips Hospital.

The Orange County Sheriff’s office said the man was pronounced dead at the hospital just before noon.

Dr. He is considered a dead duck by the RCP averages I mentioned before. Boxer is going down, Patty Murray is toast. Those still are projected dims in the RCP average. That brings the total for R’s to 52. The other two are going to big surprises to The Media, but not to the people on this board.

RP, I’ll settle for taking the House…and getting the Senate close to 50-50.

That said, I am praying for true tsunami that takes back the Senate and swamps the House!! AND I am counting on taking key Governor races (Florida, Texas, Pennsylvania and Ohio) that will be key in re-districting!!

I am going to purchase a bottle of really good Scotch for November 2nd…I’ll need it one way or the other!

#2 — I felt that in 2008 and argued Obama would set back acceptance of other black candidates…certainly the non-socialists in the electorate who bought into Obama as an agent of moderate/centrist change are not going to easily believe the next candidate who claims to be a moderate/centrist …however, there are several conservative black candidates running this year…I hope they all are elected although less than 50% stand a chance of winning. I will examine closely the voting record of all.

and they wonder where the TEA Party sprung from???

    let’s see…
    – the “National Endowment for the Arts” pays to have an “artist” depict Jesus in urine, and the virgin Mary covered in feces
    – the “Stimulus” pays a million dollars to build a TURTLE TUNNEL

and now we fork over nearly a million dollars to fund an alGore MUSICAL?????????
