New Switzerland
Noted in passing —
“Germany cannot keep paying for bail-outs without going bankrupt itself,” said Professor Wilhelm Hankel, of Frankfurt University. “This is frightening people. You cannot find a bank safe deposit box in Germany because every single one has already been taken and stuffed with gold and silver. It is like an underground Switzerland within our borders. People have terrible memories of 1948 and 1923 when they lost their savings.”
If Germans are that freaked we ought to take note. If a run on the dollar started up, much of Euroland, let alone us would be a econ wasteland. Then to top it all off, this won’t help Euro econ stability one bit —
From this day forth our energies will be directed to furthering the cause of those who believe Britain is Better Off Out.
The famous and symbolic Crusader who adorns our masthead will become the figurehead of the struggle to repatriate British sovereignty from a political project that has comprehensively failed.
After far too many years as the victims of Brussels larceny, bullying, over-regulation and all-round interference, the time has come for the British people to win back their country and restore legitimacy and accountability to their political process.
That happens to be the lead editorial from Britian’s largest newspaper, The Express.
We have Britian ready to split, France pricked by raising the retirement age, Ireland a shambles, Germans and Austrians hoarding gold. What possibly could go wrong?

Gold and silver are only good after wards when you are rebuilding. But you need (survive) to get there first.

And Europe is what Democrats and even some RINOs want as our future.

drdog – a very good read on the EU.

It is going to be bad and that is if it works out well.

Excellent read. If I had any quibble with Mr. Lira’s piece it is I wish he would have expanded on his bad scenarios. Only reason I say that is because that is where all the PIIGS are headed.
Here’s my logic. With exception of Ireland and Italy, all the PIIGS are essentially resort economies. (Unless you think a half billion in olive exports is significant.) In order to maintain their access to the Germans/Swedes/Norwegian clients they favor a stay in the EMU. Yet that is the same vehicle that prevents them from devaluing their currencies to work through their problems. So they are damned if they do and damned if they don’t. Not a pretty picture.
What our politicians have yet to comprehend is that eventually we are next. The Euros are blinking at bailing out Spain? Well the US economy is 14x times that of Spain. There is not enough money in the rest of the world to come ‘rescue’ us.

drdog – pretty much what I was thinking. What I thought was pretty good was what he said in regards to Spain and California. You bailout Spain, then you must bailout California. And if you bailout California, how many other states must you bailout. It just multiplies on you if you do one.

Agreed.

Wish the Senate had the same kind of new folks….

I agree! But, as everyone is noting 2012 will be the year of harvesting new “faces” for the Senate…if we don’t blow it between now and then!
However, the House, has the purse strings. So, maybe, at this point in time, it is a good place to have new strength and convictions in place, if one had a strategical choice between the House and Senate.

Seems to me they need a Declaration of Independence.

12—how could they have been so monumentally stupid to basically give up their sovereignty? I love the land of my ancestors, but they almost deserve what they get, except for the fact it was the elites who put them in this position in the first place.

The video…HOME RUN!!!!
Just WOW…this guy was the hammer in pounding the “building one Europe and bulldozing over national sovereignty nonsense” nail.
At least one person over there “gets it” and is willing to call a spade a spade.
