The Dept of Education needs to be disbanded —

Today Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) sent letters to the Director of Enforcement for the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and U.S. Department of Education Secretary Arne Duncan to share records CREW obtained through its Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit against Education. These documents show high-level Education officials colluded with Wall Street short-sellers, improperly leaking the contents of highly controversial gainful employment regulations in advance of their publication. Click here to read the letters.

“These new documents, combined with others previously uncovered by CREW raise troubling questions about the actions of high-level Education officials, the fairness of the agency’s regulatory process, and investors’ efforts to manipulate Education regulations for their own personal gain,” said CREW Executive Director Melanie Sloan. “It is incumbent on the SEC to fully investigate this matter.”

The newly released documents include an email from noted short-seller Steven Eisman sent days before controversial regulations governing the for-profit education industry were to be released. Mr. Eisman advised Education officials that stocks in the for-profit sector “are running because people are hearing DOE is backing down on gainful employment,” and also noted “I know you cannot respond.”

Two days later Education officials put together a plan to give advance notice of the regulations to a select group, which included individuals and entities in contact with Mr. Eisman as well as others acting on his behalf. This would have allayed Mr. Eisman’s concerns that Education might be backing away from aggressively regulating the for-profit education industry.

So here we have the Wall Street crowd attempting to game the system yet again.

Hey I am a capitalist dog. But this kind of crony capitalism has to stop. There is even a suggestion that the Washington Post is being pressured by the Administration by these regulations as WaPo owns Kaplan a for profit educational institution. Kaplan just happens to be their most profitable holding.

Transparency Died, Obama Lied.

Wow nice catch, this is exactly the kinda of crap we feared is going on. Imagine what investigations in other agencies could turn up.

The more important reason for disbanding the Department of Education is that it is destroying our children’s chances at a good education. The U.S. spends more per capita on education than any country in the world except Switzerland, yet students from countries like Ireland and Poland (which spend mush less) score better on standardized tests (particularly in the areas of math and science).

“Yesterday, Michael Moore said that the money of wealthy Americans “isn’t theres, it’s ours,” and is a “national resource.””

Yeah of course no word yet on when he’ll be offering up his own national resources for appropriation by others. What a jackass.

The DOE needs to be disbanded for THIS reason alone:

“Give me four years to teach the children and the seed I have sown will never be uprooted.

“The reports show that assets of the various labor unions run into the hundreds of millions of dollars, and payrolls rival midsize companies. Among the Top 10 unions, dozens of top officials have salary-and-benefit packages that rank them among the top percentage of income-earners in the country.

“What’s very clear to union leaders is the huge threat this poses for the organizations they have built,” said John C. McAdams, political science professor at Marquette University in Wisconsin.”

KH, ya…gotta love the fact that a Muslim shouts “Allah Akbar” as he murders people, then proclaims afterwards he “did it all for Allah”…and leads the Germans to “suspect” that religion MAY have been involved, and thus launch an “investigation”.

At least they’re “investigating” the possibility! 🙂

19 Muslims scream “Allah Akbar” as they murder 3,000 Americans and Rosie O’Donnell (and van Jones, et al) blame GEORGE BUSH!!

Texas Mulls Arizona-Style Illegal Immigration Law
“Unlike Arizona’s new immigration law, parts of which are being challenged in court, the legislation known as House Bill 12 does not require police officers to inquire about immigration status or enforce federal laws when people are detained. But the bill would not allow any law enforcement agency from adopting policies that prohibit them from doing so. Solomons said his proposal would establish a “uniform consistent policy” across the state.”

Star must identify anonymous posters to website, judge rules
A Marion County judge has ruled, for the first time in Indiana, that news media outlets can be ordered by the court to reveal identifying information about posters to their online forums.

In rulings this week and last week, Marion Superior Court Judge S.K. Reid became the first judge in Indiana to rule on whether the state journalism shield law protects media outlets from being forced to disclose names of anonymous posters on their websites or other identifying information about those posters, said Kevin Betz, an attorney for Jeffrey Miller, former chief executive of Junior Achievement of Central Indiana.

The rulings came in a defamation lawsuit Miller filed last year. He is seeking to broaden the list of defendants in his case to include people who criticized him anonymously last year on websites run by The Indianapolis Star, Indianapolis Business Journal and WRTV (Channel 6).

Remember Fred Grandy (Gopher from Love Boat)? After the series was canceled he returned to his home in Iowa and was elected to congress. He served a number of terms as a conservative Republican and now has (or perhaps I should say had) a radio show in DC.

It appears that CAIR didn’t like his expose of Islam and got the show canceled.

Why are we firing bean bags at foreign invaders who are refusing to drop weapons?

“”You go up against a bandit crew that is carrying AKs, and you walk out there with guns loaded with beanbags – I don’t get it,” Terry said in a phone interview from Michigan. “It’s like going to the Iraqi war with one knife. It boggles my mind. … These guys (Border Patrol agents) are professionals; they should be able to use their judgment call on their own.”
