Captain Obama hopes you’re enjoying your cruise!
If you missed ’60 Minutes’, (and I did) then you “missed” Resident Barack Obama being interviewed by Steve Kroft, and repeatedly blaming:
- Bush (though he has stopped using the name “Bush” when doing it, this remains his prevalent theme)
- Republicans -he claimed it was just “elected” Republicans he was blaming, not all Republicans. When told he only has a 7% approval with Republicans he responded: “I think that they like the ideas that we put forward“. No, really…that’s what he said.
- “Conditions” during his Residency
The conditions during his Residency part came with an analogy of a cruise-ship Captain having to assure his passengers that he, the Captain, wasn’t responsible for the weather. It began when Steve Kroft laid out the conditions that exist in America today (“…the unemployment rate at 8.6 percent, you’ve still got soft consumer demand. You’ve got no business investment. There’s still a fairly steady downturn in housing prices.”). Obama re-blamed Bush for a bit, but then came up with this:
You know, sometimes when I’m talkin’ to my team, I describe us as, you know, I’m the captain and they’re the crew on a ship, goin’ through really bad storms. And no matter how well we’re steerin’ the ship, if the boat’s rockin’ back and forth and people are gettin’ sick and, you know, they’re bein’ buffeted by the winds and the rain and you know, at a certain point if you’re askin’, ‘Are you enjoying the ride right now?’ Folks are gonna say, ‘No.’ And are they gonna say, ‘Do you think the captain’s doing a good job?’ People are gonna say, ‘You know what? A good captain would have had us in some smooth waters and sunny skies, at this point.’ And I don’t control the weather. What I can control are the policies we’re putting in place to make a difference in people’s lives.
He then went on to use the “3 million jobs created or saved” canard for umpteenth time to justify his “steering of the ship”, and explaining how much worse it COULD have been!
Had the Captain of the Titanic not died when the ship went down, and if he were a disciple of the “Obama Church of Blame Deflection”, the world might have had this interview foisted upon them:
Reporter: “Captain Smith, over 1,500 people died when the Titanic sank…why shouldn’t the public hold you responsible?”
Captain Smith: “First of all, I don’t make icebergs…cold weather makes ice, and the ice calves into the ocean creating icebergs.”
Reporter: “But…but…you steered the ship INTO an iceberg.”
Captain Smith: “Well, technically, the incompetent fool with his hands on the wheel did that. But have you considered how many lives I saved by hitting that iceberg??”
Captain Smith: “When the Titanic hit that iceberg the HMS Carpathia was only a couple hours away, and thus able to come and help save over 700 people. Had we hit an iceberg further on in our voyage when ships like the Carpathia weren’t so close, we might have lost ALL souls on board…including my own. I believe we saved 700 people by hitting that iceberg at that time.”
Captain Obama hopes you’re enjoying your cruise…but if you’re not, then it’s just not his fault!!!
