Happy Thanksgiving!

[note: this post was our first Thanksgiving post on this site…dating from 2008.  I have edited only slightly]

As Americans we truly have so much to be thankful for…balanced by a duty to protect, defend and pass on those very same things.

Yet, like all God’s creatures we only protect and defend those things which we hold dear, and therein lies my disquietude on this Thanksgiving.  I fear that far too many in America today value their comfort above their liberty, and their free THINGS over their Freedom.  Freedom is taken for granted by too many, and the price or even the NEED of preserving it is beyond the comprehension of many of the younger and even older generation.   Not all, to be sure…but far too many.

What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly: it is dearness only that gives every thing its value. Heaven knows how to put a proper price upon its goods; and it would be strange indeed if so celestial an article as FREEDOM should not be highly rated.” [‘The American Crisis’ – Thomas Paine, December 23, 1776.]

I am so thankful to be an American, with rights and liberties unheard of until 1776.  I know the value of those rights and liberties, and the price paid by so many to secure and protect them.  I believe in the years ahead America will be handed, yet again, a bill for those rights and liberties. America has paid that same bill over and over, and sadly, there is no way to EVER stamp that bill “Paid in Full“.  The “bill collector” is shuffling towards our door even now, and I pray we still have enough of the Spirit of 1776, and 1812, and 1863, and 1917, and 1945, and 2001 to pay the price!

Give abundant thanks this Thanksgiving…hold in your hearts all those things you hold most dear, and make sure Freedom is one of them!  For the “rent” on our Freedom is just about due…

from “Galt’s Gulch”…God Bless America

    Consider this, my dear friends…
    The 3,000+ page Bill that is ObamaCare has a section devoted to “Transparency”…here is the opening to that section. Lest you think I cherry-picked, know that the entire 3,000+ page Bill is written in this manner. You would have thought, if only to avoid IRONY, that the “Transparency” section would have been, well, transparent! Here is just the opening of that section (it “transparently” continues on for a hundred pages in this manner):

    Subtitle A—Physician Ownership and Other Transparency
    (a) IN GENERAL.—Section 1877 of the Social Security Act (42 U.S.C.1395nn) is amended—
    (1) in subsection (d)(2)—
    (A) in subparagraph (A), by striking‘and’ at the end;
    (B) in subparagraph (B), by striking the period at the end and inserting ‘‘; and’’; and
    (C) by adding at the end the following new subparagraph:
    ‘(C) in the case where the entity is a hospital, the hospital meets the requirements of paragraph (3)(D).’’;
    (2) in subsection (d)(3)—
    (A) in subparagraph (B), by striking ‘‘and’’ at the end;
    (B) in subparagraph (C), by striking the period at the end and inserting ‘‘; and’’; and
    (C) by adding at the end the following new subparagraph:
    (D) the hospital meets the requirements described in subsection (i)(1) not later than 18 months after the date of the enactment of this subparagraph.’’; and…

    Now why would you write an entire 3,000+ page document using arcane language…and constantly referring to amendments in OTHER documents? Note that in some places in the Bill a single paragraph will reference 5 or more OTHER documents…that will then themselves reference OTHER documents. Get the picture…it’s an Easter Egg Hunt…and you are never intended to find the Easter Eggs!

    Consider my comment above on the monstrous Bill known as ObamaCare, and now consider this…

    In the history of mankind there have been a series of recurring issues regarding the rights of a nation’s citizens…or, in most cases, the lack of them. These issues were at the core of countless rebellions, migrations, and millenia of misery. These issues were:
    Religion…should people be allowed to worship according to their conscience (answer nearly always: “NO!“)
    Expression…should people be allowed to express their opinions freely…without fear or limitations (answer nearly always: “NO!“)
    Assembly…should people be allowed to assemble, peaceably, for whatever purpose THEY chose (answer nearly always: “NO!“)
    Petition…should people be allowed to petition their Rulers when they felt aggrieved (answer nearly always: “NO!“)

    It took 3,000+ pages of legalese BS for our Federal government to shackle us with ObamaCare…and new “nuggets” emerge from that foulness every week. It took ONE PARAGRAPH for our Founders to settle the age-old issues I listed above:

    Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

    I give Thanks for our Founders…and the amazing system of government they crafted. I CURSE those who seek to “Fundamentally transform” it…for they seek not to do so through the mechanisms of transformation built within it (Amendments)…but through subversion.

    IP…agreed. Boehner has no intention of fighting ObamaCare. But it’s time to placate Republicans by pretending to fight.

    IP, for over TEN YEARS we have heard a relentless screeching from the Left: “Bush Tax Cuts BAD!!!” Never ONCE did the Left say: “Some of them were ok…” (because that would have given Bush some credit…and we can’t have THAT!)

    so for ten years the Left has blamed every aspect of our economic decline on BUSH…and those evil tax cuts!!! Tax cuts that ONLY benefitted the RICH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Except now the media/Dems/Left (same people) are screeching: “We cannot allow the Bush tax rates to expire!! …except for “the wealthy”

    yup…the EVIL tax rates that supposedly benefitted ONLY the wealthy…well, they really benefitted EVERYONE! And expiring ONLY those for the high-end will generate the only barest drop in the bucket against the massive deficit!

    Seems like the national debt just hit $16 trillion and we’re already a quarter of the way to $17 trillion:

    Let’s see them squirm out of it now, when the middle class takes a hit.
    Must not have been just a tax cut for the rich after all. The GOP needs to
    hammer them on this, and remind them of their past demagoguery.

    Happy Thanksgiving. May God Bless you all with Love and Peace. Know that God is large and in charge.

    Romans 8: 28 – 39.

    28 And we know that to them that love God all things work together for good, even to them that are called according to his purpose.

    29 For whom he foreknew, he also foreordained to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren:

    30 and whom he foreordained, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.

    31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us?

    32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not also with him freely give us all things?

    33 Who shall lay anything to the charge of God’s elect? It is God that justifieth;

    34 who is he that condemneth? It is Christ Jesus that died, yea rather, that was raised from the dead, who is at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.

    35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or anguish, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?

    36 Even as it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; We were accounted as sheep for the slaughter.

    37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.

    38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers,

    39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
