RIP — The Twinkie

Yep, wear the union label — while you can. Hostess is laying off 18000 people as they are just going to shutdown and sell themselves off —

“We deeply regret the necessity of today’s decision, but we do not have the financial resources to weather an extended nationwide strike,” said Gregory F. Rayburn, chief executive officer. “Hostess Brands will move promptly to lay off most of its 18,500-member workforce and focus on selling its assets to the highest bidders.”

Smart move union. So goes the union dues.

Last memory of my childhood terminated. My mom used to pack one in my Lone Ranger lunch box for school every day. Having a twinkie in your lunch was like having a carton of cigarettes in prison. Highly tradeable. 🙂

on a more somber note…companies have exactly THREE options:
    (1) adapt to survive: lower hours per employee below the triggers, cut work force, and try to hunker down (e.g. Olive Garden. Denny’s)
    (2) go out of business (e.g. Hostess)
    (3) prostitute themselves to Obama to get a handout (e.g. GM)

The Age of Obama is gonna resemble the Hunger Games real soon. We are, I believe, one more scare away from STAMPEDE!!! time on Wall Street. Then when unemployment (even the phony version) hits 9+% again, the Chicago Machine will enact a variety of “Emergency Measures”. And then…(switching metaphors) AVALANCHE!!

JM, from the article you linked is this “gem”:

A representative of the liberal Pension Rights Center, Rebecca Davis, testified that the government needs to get involved because 401k plans and IRAs are unfair to poor people. She demanded the Obama administration set up a “government-sponsored program administered by the PBGC (the governments’ Pension Benefit Guarantee Corporation).” She proclaimed that even “private annuities are problematic.”

Never liked Twinkees. My favorite Hostess product was the orange product with the cream filling.

The major bakery in the U.S. is Bimbo ( a Mexican-owned company, not the cheerleaders you will see Sunday, Paula Broadwell or Jill Kelley). Bimbo owns everything from Entenmann’s to Sarah Lee to Thomas to Brownberry. My guess is they are mostly non-union:

Just like in the auto industry, the foreign-owned companies have an advantage being non-union.

I’ll make it even scarier for you — Darden already have Obamacare exemptions and yet they are still going to push to get their employees to 27hrs/wk. The CEO of Darden is BLACK and the Obama minions are still screaming racism.

All of this makes me so mad. We have put 10% in our 401k account since it was opened. What could we have done with that money? Obama already lost us about 70k of it 2 years ago, and now we could lose every penny. I know folks think this will be the spark that lights the whole thing ablaze, but something tells me that people will roll over and take it.

It might be prudent to stop all contributions to your 401 k at this time, until this blows over or is inacted. If it looks like it would pass, you will see a run on people cashing in the 401’s and paying the penalty.

“WASHINGTON — The U.S. Postal Service reported a record annual loss Thursday and warned that, without congressional action, it could face a cash shortfall next fall.

The mail service said it lost $15.9 billion in the fiscal year that ended Sept. 30. That is more than triple its $5.1 billion loss last year.”

Speaking of which it took me 35minutes in line yesterday afternoon just to pickup a certified letter. Should it really take that long? There were only 7 people ahead of me in line and two counters open. each of the 7 in front of me had nothing complicated going on. If I had a couple of mil I would do it in a heartbeat. There would be changes tho —

    * I would move the bakery ops to Mexico to obstinately avoid Obamacare.
    * Distribution would be by direct ship/internet sales and on Amazon.

Have you thought about getting a second or perhaps third job? After all, you have responsibilities. You don’t only have your family to support, but someone else’s too. Pay your taxes. 10% Penalty from Early Distributions from a Retirement Plan
If you withdraw money from a qualified retirement plan, you may be subject to an additional tax of 10%. This is penalty for taking an early distribution from an individual retirement account (IRA), 401(k), 403(b), or other qualified retirement plan before reaching age 59 1/2. There are exceptions to this 10% penalty. A little known fact is this penalty may apply to Roth IRAs, even if it has been at least five years since you first opened up your Roth account. For Roth IRA account holders, it will be crucially important to review the exceptions to the 10% penalty, as otherwise the Roth distribution could become subject to both tax and the 10% penalty.

Maybe it is our investment company making that rule then. “Update II: Like I said, I haven’t paid much attention to this fight, so I don’t have a lot of insight into whether labor or management has been more unreasonable. However, the Teamsters’ web site seems to lay the blame on the Bakery, Confectionary, Tobacco and Grain Millers International Union (BCTGM) for refusing to go along with the Teamsters to accept the last offer from Hostess:”

Also only about 5-6k of the 18k are union jobs, so as is usually the case a small group helped ruin it for everyone.

I am still sick everyday after the American public showed their collective stupidity.

A friend sent me this to cheer me up, thought I would pass on.

Over five thousand years ago, Moses said to the children of Israel

“Pick up your shovels, mount your asses and camels, and I will lead you to the Promised Land.”

Nearly 75 years ago, (when Welfare was introduced) Roosevelt said,

“Lay down your shovels, sit on your asses, and light up a Camel, this is the Promised Land.”

Today, Congress has stolen your shovel, taxed your asses, raised the price of Camels and mortgaged the Promised Land!

I was so depressed last night thinking about Health Care Plans, the economy, the wars, lost jobs, savings, Social Security, retirement funds, etc …. I called a Suicide Hotline.

I had to press 1 for English.

I was connected to a call center in Pakistan .. I told them I was suicidal.

Susan Rice has a lot more going against her than some stupid Sunday shows where she, as a loyal tool, lied to the American people.

As the United Nations ambassador, she was absent without leave on most issues of any consequence during the last four years. If the senate confirmation hearings are conducted as they should be, she will be squirming in her seat hoping that obama will come save her.

Her diplomatic failures include the ignoring of the Syrian uprising for months, and her eventual timid response. Her resolution was vetoed three times by Russia and China. She skipped important security council meetings when our ally Israel needed support, and others when the Muslim uprising was ongoing. Overall, a pathetic record.

I think I’m gonna like this guy.

Cruz is correct. Romney’s advisors wanted him to play it safe and not rock the boat by attacking Barack Obama. Unfortunately many members of Team Romney played major roles in the defeat of other Republicans. Their advice is always the same: move to the mushy middle and be more like Democrats.

Bubba and Earl were drinking beers and driving. “Oh no!” says Earl. “There’s a po-leece roadblock up ahead!” “Don’t worry, Earl, I know just what to do,” says Bubba. “We’ll just pull over here and finish drinkin’ these beers, and when we’re done, we’ll peel off the labels, hide the bottles, and stick the beer labels on our foreheads.” “Huh?” says Earl. “Don’t worry, Earl, just let me do all the talkin,’” said Bubba. They finished their beers, threw the empty bottles under the seat and slapped the beer labels on their foreheads. When they reached the roadblock, the sheriff looked at them and said, “Have you boys been drinking?” “No sir,” said Bubba. “We’re on the patch!”

There is another challenge in the courts based on the idea that the billl wasn’t legally passed,
because spending bills must originate in the house. The final bill that passed through budget recon was in fact the senate bill, wrapped in the shell of an earlier house bill.

Unikely that scotus will even take the case however,
as they have already sullied themselves on the original ruling.
Maybe roberts would like a chance to redeem himself.
