The Disingenuous Left

2012 November 18
by justrand

I have been in “discussions” with a couple of my Leftist friends.  Both spouted the exact same Dem talking points: “Life was good and we were prosperous when the top income tax rate was 90%, or even 70%”

Okey Dokey…in 1980 (when the GREAT Jimmah Carter was President) the rates in effect are those shown in column 3, for the income ranges in columns 1 & 2.  THEN, I have used the Consumer Price Index multiplier from the BLS to indicate equivalent income ranges today (column 4 & 5).  Finally, way out in column 6 are the rates in effect now…thanks to the EVIL George W. Bush.

Simply find your income range in columns 4 & 5, and then note the column 3 tax rate, versus the column 6 tax rate.  The 2012 ranges are slightly different…so they don’t match up perfectly…but close enough.

Thus, for example, if you’re income range TODAY is $61,500 to $74,750, you are paying a %15 tax rate.  But if we go back to the good old days of Jimmah Carter…you get to pay 32%.  Over double.  Good news, eh?  (remember, Joe Biden says “Taxes are patriotic!”)

But disingenuous Left wants to leave all the rates as they are…except one rate: those over $250,000.  Most of them now pay between 33% and 35%…and would (per the Left wet-dream) pay 59% to 70%.

Reality, of course, is that raising just ONE set of rates will raise $87 billion a year against an annual deficit of $1.4 TRILLION…yet raising just ONE rate is all the Left proposes.    So ya gotta raise ‘em all…sorry folks.

“Callista and I” bashes Romney for saying Obama “bought the election” with gifts for minorities and the young:

And, to think that in the mid-1990s I actually liked this scumbag.

    College football coach firings begin:

    – Derrick Dooley at Tennessee
    – Bill Cubit at Western Michigan

Pretty soon the NFL coach firings will begin. Norvm Turner (San Diego) should be at the top of the list along with Rex Ryan and Romeo Crenell.

If the Steelers were prisoners of war, they couldn’t be forced to wear those uniforms.

JR, Those tax table are not the whole story. Back in Jimmyah’s day we also had the following to moderate rates —

    * 3 yr income averaging. This was a particularly nice thing for those folks that worked a commission sales job or the small business owner who have a couple of previous bad years to sop up a really profitable year.
    * The expense line on deductibles was 100%. Many a middle incomer was a country clubbers thanks to that. The manna of the three martini lunch. Oh and if your employees total expense lines were less than $25k no need to itemize!
    * Two dep schedules — straight line and DDB.
    * 100% of your credit cards interest was deductible.
    * Half of your medical ins prem. up to $1500 cap was deductible. You could also deduct all out of pocket med expenses up to the difference between you qualified AGI and the expense no cap.
    * Personal property taxes were deductible.

The point is you could be straight line gross in the 70% bracket and thanks to expense deductions and offsets could get your effective tax rate down in the 30% range.

    * any interest was deductable – not juet credit cards but auto loans, home remodeling loans, etc.
    * state sales taxes earned tax credits. They had a table for the states.

An ESPN SportsNation poll last month found 65% of respondents hated the retro uniforms while only 14% liked them.

Subsequent research found that the 14% were habitual glue sniffers.

I think the Steelers retro uniforms give them an advantage. It’s harder for their opponents to pick up their numbers. The same was true when my kids played soccer and their opponents had red jerseys with black numbers.

Tell me ONE thing that’s wrong with the Buccaneers cheerleaders’ retro uniforms above. Cleavage, exposed midsections, show plenty of leg. What’s wrong with them?

2 – At least he was fairly effective in his job *at that time* – I can not say the same for most that have followed.

I really don’t understand the need for all the rino’s to be tripping over themselves to comment on Romney’s comments. If I were them I’d be thinking…who gives a sh1t..
