BJG NFL Football – Week 3

Today let’s talk about talk about something other than cheerleaders … for a little while at least.

There have been a number of articles written by conservatives in recent days saying that we must defend the NFL because it represents capitalism and everything that has made America great. But, is it?

Perhaps in the 1930s or even as late as the 1950s that statement may have been more true. Today’s NFL is in reality a cartel. It has no competition. The commissioner is the son of a (less than) one term RINO senator who was appointed by Nelson Rockefeller. The NFL itself is tax exempt, although its teams are not. Rather than being capitalism at its best, in actuality, it is crony capitalism at its worst.

Under Roger Goodall’s leadership, the NFL has become the epitome of political correctness. When Rush Limbaugh expressed an interest in purchasing the St. Louis Rams, he was re-buffed because he was a conservative. The owner leading opposition to Limbaugh’s ownership was Jim Irsay, of the Indianapolis Colts. Irsay was arrested earlier this year for DWI and drug possession. Irsay was suspended for six games and fined $500,000 by the league. Irsay has made political contributions to John Edwards and Harry Reid.

Most teams force municipalities to build stadiums and and, if the city or state balks, the owner threatens to relocate the franchise to Los Angeles. It is not because the stadiums are falling apart, but rather because they don’t have enough luxury boxes or amenities for season ticket holders to satisfy owners and increase team revenues.

What are your thoughts?

And now back to our regularly scheduled programming. Here are this week’s picks:

Whatever team the gal in photo #1 supports…I SUPPORT! It’s only fair since she’s all alone and doesn’t even own a jersey! 🙂

still on the NFL, yesterday our “beloved” Sec. Defense, Chuck “Muskrat” Hagel, declared he is FOCUSED on the NFL, because, you know…”WAR ON WOMEN, or something.

Yup. The freaking WORLD is falling apart, and the man theoretically assigned to help defend us, is focused on how extensive the NFL ties to the military are!

Like EVERY other person in the Obama Regime, Hagel is only there to “gratify” his highness…on demand..and nothing more.

TLS, I loved the Pan Am homage…but it’d be just my luck the person sitting next to me would want to talk the whole time!

Ok, ok…the person would probably be my wife! 🙂

    JR,

If you have my luck, I end up with a 9yo kid kicking in the back of my seat during my whole `flight`. 🙂

Had a small tornado pass through our subdivision at 3 AM. Just got our electricity back.

Half of the top of a tree in front of my house is gone. It looks pathetic. We’re going to have to have it taken down. It wasn’t a very nice tree any way.

There is a park a block away and 70% of the trees (evergreens) were uprooted. One house bordering the park has a small portion of its roof missing (not just the shingles or even plywood, but the framing too).

Fortunately it wasn’t worse. Apparently no one was hurt (although someone was sleeping in the bedroom under the roof that was torn off).

#1 is a Cardinals cheerleader. Are you going to support the Cardinals against your beloved 49ers this afternoon?

She has an advantage as her bikini is even skimpier than the cheerleaders outfits.

Sports columnists and reporters (especially ESPN) are showing their liberalism more frequently in recent years.

The reason behind my rant it that the NFL represents crony capitalism at its worst. I wouldn’t mind if the NFL was replaced by professional lacrosse … long as the lacrosse teams had cheerleaders (and many professional lacrosse teams do).

My son and his buddies, who played both football and lacrosse in high school, all agreed that lacrosse is far more violent but there are fewer serious injuries as few lacrosse players weigh more than 225 pounds.

I don’t find the Broncos cheerleader with the short hair to be particularly attractive, but apparently the SI photographers do. She gets a lot of coverage.

    TLS #2 –

I am so old I can remember when flying was NOT like riding in a boxcar to Auschwitz.

    * Eastern stewardesses could wear miniskirts provided they received approval from a senior stewardess (e.g. they had good legs).
    * Continental (the bird with the golden tail) served edible meals and came through with hot towels on Chicago – LA flights
    * Braniff had obnoxious pilots that were always trying to hit on stewardesses
    * United sucked. Some things never changed.

    BC,

Glad to hear you survived the twister.

Living in Florida early in life, Eastern was the dominate carrier. Yes I do remember the hot stews. That was back in the days when you walked on the tarmac up a ladder truck to get on the plane. If it rained they provided, gasp, umbrellas, to keep you dry. Good times.

Two blocks east of me really got hit. I tried to drive down that street, but the sheriff’s department has it blocked off. I could see lots of emergency/utility vehicles down the street. Channel 7 Action News had its truck there too.

It appears that JR’s girlfriend inspired the Cardinals to beat the 49ers. You do realize that she isn’t a real blonde? Somehow I don’t think her hair is what JR is focused on.

They call it a “cockpit” for a reason. Actually an old nautical term, but it works for pilots.

    Now, about that “joystick”………..
