Poll: 1 in 5 Americans Trust the Federal Government

2015 November 24
by bc3b

Trust the Russians more than the US government? There was a time when you would have said no way. But today, it’s a different story. Today we have a federal government that denies that ISIS is Islamic … withholds “inconvenient” facts from the American public … and often is caught up in other lies. Worst of all, rather than exposing the government’s lies, a lapdog media does its best to hide the truth from the people. Is today’s New York Times any more believable than Pravda was during the days of the Soviet Union?

Americans aren’t the brightest people in the world as you may have noticed when they re-elected Barack Obama in 2012, but even they are starting to catch on. Recent Gallup polls indicate that more people than ever do not trust the US media. Now a Pew poll shows that just one in five Americans believe the federal government,

A shocking new poll out on Americans’ growing cynicism about their federal government.

It’s not really surprising that after seven years of an administration of serial liars, empty promises and failed plans, an overwhelming percentage of the public does not trust elected officials, their politics or the government they’re supposed to be running.

What’s really shocking is that 19% of Americans still do.

Nearly one-in-five say they can always or most always trust that Washington crowd. Seriously? Who are these people? Cubs fans? Newly-arrived Martians? Rachel Maddowers?

Do you know five people who swallow everything they hear from the upside-down capital of our nation? How about two? ObamaCare is working really well? ISIS is on the run? The FBI is seriously probing Hillary Clinton’s email scam?

Nineteen percent trusting is actually among the lowest in almost six decades. People even had more trust in Jimmy Carter’s presidency. People had the most trust during the first year of Lyndon Johnson’s sudden presidency. But then came Vietnam and Richard Nixon.

The newest poll from the Pew Research Center is based on 6,000 interviews this fall. It confirms suspicions that most people have felt for some time. Trust in those institutions began sagging during the second term of George W. Bush. But has absolutely cratered during these past 2,499 days of Barack Obama’s hope and change.

It’s gotten so bad that a convincing majority of Americans (55%) now believes that “ordinary Americans” could do a better job of addressing our nation’s problems.

Oh, look! That helps explain the enduring popularity this cycle of outside non-politicians in polls among Republican primary voters. Even supporting a fast-talking real estate agent.

We’ll see how long that lasts because the same poll shows that while most Americans don’t like or trust the federal government, they also overwhelmingly have a long list of tasks they still want those agencies to do. And, by the way, that’s a bipartisan honeydew list too.

A majority supports government protecting citizens on everything from terrorism and unsafe foods down to fighting poverty and ensuring adequate income for seniors. See, Americans really hate hypocrisy — unless it’s theirs.

Only 47% support government advancing space exploration.

Another area of bipartisan agreement now is a lack of confidence in fellow voters. Only one-in-three (34%) have great or good confidence in the American public’s collective wisdom, while 63% have little or none.

That finding is striking because it’s almost the reverse of the confidence levels in January of 2007. Gee, were there any presidential elections between 2007 and 2015 whose outcomes could explain that serious collapse in confidence in fellow voters?

So, I guess if 5 people are in a room, 1 of them is an utter moron…sounds like a fun game to play this thanksgiving in a house filled with extended family.

JM, it means that 1 in 5 people work for the Federal government.

The current Federal government is an utter abomination…and so far from what it was INTENDED to be that there is no way it can go back, ON ITS OWN, to its original size & purpose.

We the People…call it CWII or ARII…will have to do it if it is to be done.

I had dinner tonight with my 29 year old nephew. In high school, he started the Republican club. In his 20’s, he jumped on the Obama bandwagon like most of his generation. Interesting guy, smart but somewhat impressionable so I have come to see his political attitudes are largely reflective of his generation. In high school, he started the Republican club. In his 20’s, he jumped on the bandwagon like most of his generation. So he serves as my barometer for what the millennials are really thinking politically.

I asked him about Hillary, and he laughed and said that nobody likes her and most of his peers think she’s full of crap. I assumed that he was drifting back to his conservative roots, so I asked him which Republican candidate he liked. Well, he hates them all…and for different reasons. I asked about his generation…bottom line is that millennials hate Trump because of his stance on immigration. They don’t care much for Cruz because they think he’s too preachy. They kind of like Carson, but it’s not a strong conviction…might be because he’s black. Who knows. So, I went on to ask him if nobody likes Hillary and nobody likes any of the GOP candidates, who were they going to vote for. His answer…NOBODY. He said that he never hears anyone talking about the election, and he feels that they just don’t care any more. They all feel that the system is rigged, that all these people are totally in politics for the wrong reason…thus, they are just checking out of the whole thing.

This is anecdotal, but I really feel like this guy has his finger on the pulse. Millennials staying home en masse on election day…not a great scenario for the Hildabeast.

Michigan State Police announced the discovery of an arms cache of 200 semi-automatic rifles, along with 250,000 rounds of ammunition, 10 anti-tank missiles, 4 grenade launchers,
two tons of heroin, $12 million in cash, and a ring of 14 prostitutes, all in a housing project behind the Detroit Public Library.

Detroit folks were stunned. A community organizer said, “We is shocked.” “We never knew we had a library.”

    JBoz –

bottom line is that millennials hate Trump because of his stance on immigration.

Millenials are having trouble getting decent jobs because of immigration (mostly H1B visa workers), whether it’s in technology, employment at universities, and now accounting. They are going to be paying entitlements for immigrants until they die. Immigrants – legal and illegal – are suppressing wages.

H1B are adversely affecting educated millenials and illegal aliens are adversely affecting poorly educated millenials (especially blacks).

    Millenials are really brain dead.

“Where did your nephew go to college?”

    Here’s one for DrDog…he’s a Texas A&M grad.

Footnote, he also said they (Millenials) are all very turned off by the “anti-Syrian refugee” sentiment. Then he invoked WWJD on me. I just said “You might understand when you have kids of your own.” and left it at that. Sigh, fortunately I had a pretty good bottle of wine open.

And Texas A&M is one of the less liberal (I won’t say more conservative) major universities.

It appears that your nephew’s decisions are driven by emotions rather than logic.

If your nephew is typical of melinneals, and I have no reason to believe he isn’t, in the words of the immortal ip727: WBF,

Just my 2 cents about millenials from my daughters perspective (she is 30). She went to a very very liberal arts college here in Ohio.

She knows kool aid drinking Obama lovers who are split on Syrians and immigration in general. Some believe we should let them in and others on the left view it as a threat to national security. Those on the right are generally opposed to what is going on generally speaking. They just don’t like what is going on.

Most of her friends on the left hate Trump. As she said to me, the left tells you who they view as a threat by who they hate. Look at how they hate Trump vs Jeb Bush. Do you hear them say anything negative about Bush – nope.

She will tell you that most millenials don’t care for the GOP and will vote for the Dem regardless (Brain washed and all – her words). BUT they are not as on fire where they will take someone to the polls. She said that the Baby Boomers and Generation Next are more on fire for the LEFT than the Millenials (of those that support them).

Her words, the Democrats are screwed and the Republicans are screwed, we are all screwed. The millenials are very apathetic (believe the lie on Socialism) and can not see it happening.

“While 97 percent of scientists may agree mankind is driving global warming, 97 percent of Americans don’t seem to care about the issue when stacked up against other concerns such as terrorism or the economy, according to a recent Fox News poll.”

But you know, a climate summit will show those isis bastards! /s

““It’s just going to take a little time for people to take a step back and look at his track record, see who he is and how he’s changed his positions and how unprepared he is to be president of the United States,” VanderSloot said.

That view is shared by Andrew Sabin, a longtime New York donor supporting Bush.

“I’m not worried,” Sabin said. “The voters are not going to think out their candidate until a week or two before they go into the voting booth.”

That may be, though I recall thinking the same about some crazy liberal freshman senator named Barack something or other. I’ll tell you who needs to stop running ads though, it’s Jeb Bush, this guy has had the same two ads running 3x an hour since late August here in the ATL market by some pac and it’s annoying as all fk, and they apparently haven’t moved his numbers anywhere but downward during this time, give it a rest Jeb it ain’t working.
