Thomas Donahue – the Ugly American (POS)

Big business has changed dramatically in the past 75 years. During World War II major corporations were headed by patriotic Americans like Henry Ford and Philip Knight Wrigley.

Ford stopped building cars to produce army trucks, tanks and military aircraft. Wrigley, the chewing gum king, owned the Chicago Cubs. The team was going to install lights for the 1941 season and had already acquired the steel to construct light towers at Wrigley Field. Phil Wrigley decided the country was more important than night baseball. He donated the steel for the light towers to the war effort. Night baseball didn’t arrive at Wrigley Field until 1988.

Compare Ford and Wrigley to today’s crony capitalist big business leaders. Most view themselves as citizens of the world. They couldn’t care less about the United States, its people or their future. All they care about is greed and having the US taxpayers provide billions in corporate welfare.

In the 1940 the US Chamber of Commerce was a patriotic organization. Today, the Chamber and its members only care about one thing with their country – bleeding it dry to increase their profits and personal income. The Chamber supports open borders and unlimited immigration. It also is fighting to keep NAFTA in place – increased profitability “trumps” American jobs.

The Chamber of Commerce couldn’t have a more likely leader than Thomas Donahue. Donahue is a despicable, greedy old man who personifies all the wrong things that today’s US Chamber of Commerce is all about – greed, corporate welfare, crony capitalism and America last.

He opposed the Trump agenda and is fighting to keep putting the screws to American citizens.

U.S. Chamber of Commerce President Tom Donohue is now engaged in a direct fight with U.S. President Donald Trump. As would be expected, and as we specifically predicted, Tom Donohue is now specifically aligning himself with Canada and Mexico against the interests of the United States economy.

Tom Donohue gives hundreds of millions to Mitch McConnell and the crony UniParty capitalist ilk that infect Washington DC. Donohue owns the vast majority of U.S. politicians. This battle is the epicenter of lobbying usurpation, and how multinational corporations own U.S. politicians. This battle will be epic.

MEXICO CITY/WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The most powerful U.S. business lobby accused the Trump administration on Tuesday of making “poison pill proposals” to sabotage talks aimed at modernizing NAFTA, as negotiators began gathering in Washington for fresh trade talks.

[…] Speaking in Mexico City, Thomas Donohue, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s president and chief executive, listed several U.S. proposals that he said would undermine $1 trillion in annual trilateral trade, including a “sunset clause” to force regular negotiations.

His comments marked the second broadside the chamber has launched against the Trump administration’s stance on renegotiating NAFTA in less than a week. It has argued repeatedly that the trade pact is critical to U.S. industries such as agriculture and manufacturing.

“There are several poison pill proposals still on the table that could doom the entire deal,” Donohue said at an event hosted by the American Chamber of Commerce of Mexico, where he said the “existential threat” to NAFTA threatened regional security.

U.S. officials have suggested incorporating a sunset clause in NAFTA that would kill it unless it was renegotiated every five years. The officials have also suggested eliminating a key dispute resolution mechanism, much to the dismay of Canada.

Donohue singled out plans to make automakers source more parts in North America, as well as proposed changes to the dispute resolution mechanism as obstacles to NAFTA’s renewal. He also cited plans to limit Canadian and Mexican access to U.S. government procurement rules.

Speaking of the auto industry, thanks to NAFTA, Mexico has become the #1 exporter of vehicles into the US and it keeps getting worse. The 2016 Jeep Compass was built in Belvedere, IL. The 2018 Compass is assembled in Toluca, Mexico.

Today’s US Chamber of Commerce is the #1 enemy of working class Americans

They want unlimited immigration – let the taxpayers pick up the cost of supporting illegal aliens. Increased crime by illegal aliens? Not a problem where Thomas Donahue lives. Jobs moving from Belvedere to Mexico – as long as Fiat Chrysler makes more profit per unit, that’s cool.

By its very charter the Chamber of Commerce was never for the working stiff. That connection depended on the good graces of the top men running the Corps as your lede points out. It amazes me that there are still local CoC chapters. The small operator is getting raped and the CoC really does not help.

The local Chamber of Commerce chapters, unlike the national, are about doing good for the local community rather than crony capitalism. As you imply, the Clawson Chamber of Commerce would be better off becoming the Clawson Friendly Business Association and contributing 10 more park benches with the money they currently send to the state and national CoC organizations.

    Eph –

Speaking of Harveywood, is there any woman in the entertainment industry (other than the crew at The View because even a pig like Weinstein has standards) that Harvey didn’t try to grope or rape?

I am sure there will be some porn flicks about Harvey Weinstein (renamed Harry Weinstock). Maybe Ron Jeremy is still around.

General unemployment is the lowest its been in 43 years. I believe it, the libs at BLS would not want the numbers higher so its probably as low as they could get away with.
