CNN Wants to Revoke Your 1st Amendment Rights

2017 November 28
by bc3b

The First Amendment is short and to the point:

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”

Freedom of speech is granted to all Americans, not just elitists and the media. While “freedom of the press” is spelled out specifically, there were few local newspapers and no national media at the time the Bill of Rights was authored (1791). Anyone who had access to a printing press was considered the “press.”

While James Madison, author of the Bill of Rights, could never have imagined the Internet, freedom of the press applied to anyone with access to a press. The “press” in the day of Madison consisted primarily of people publishing pamphlets and leaflets. They were highly partisan and often ruthless in what they published. Nevertheless Madison recognized their right to express their beliefs even though their rhetoric was often hateful and he knew some would attack him and his party.

Please observe that there is nothing in the First Amendment banning obnoxious or even hateful speech.

Fast forward to the 21st Century. Internet bloggers have replaced pamphleteers of the late 18th Century. The main stream media is highly concentrated with a handful of corporate giants and powerful individuals controlling 90% of the media.

The media is reeling. It has come under increasing attack and for the first time there is a Republican President and press secretary who are willing to fight back.

Gallup conducts an annual survey in public trust in the media and every year since 2007 over 50% of Americans have said they have very little or no trust in the media.

The media is trying to fight back with CNN and Brian”Missing Link” Stelter, CNN’s self-proclaimed media expert, leading the way.

CNN just published an op-ed suggesting that the term “fake news” should be banned. Censorship anyone? The first bizarre thing about the op-ed is that it was authored by a Muslim who spent years in an Iranian prison as a dissident. The second bizarre thing is that the term “fake news” was originally used by CNN, the Democrats and the rest of the main stream media in an attempt to discredit its critics on the right, especially bloggers. President Trump and conservatives co-opted the term and turned it against the media.

The media attempts to claim the First Amendment gives it special rights that ordinary Americans don’t have.

During the 2016 election, Chris “Fredo” Cuomo stated, “Also interesting is, remember, it’s illegal to possess these stolen documents. It’s different for the media. So everything you learn about this, you’re learning from us.”

Somehow I missed that reading the First Amendment. It’s only one sentence long, but it’s a complex sentence so it probably threw him . Pay attention Fredo.

Eugene Volokh wrote in the Washington Post (of all places) about Fredo’s stupid statement:

Ah, isn’t it lovely to be so special, so specially immune from the law? Except it’s not at all different for the media. The First Amendment offers the same protection to the media as to the rest of us, including when it comes to possessing or distributing illegally obtained material (so long as you weren’t involved in the original illegal hack or interception or leak). Indeed, in the 2001 Bartnicki v. Vopper decision, the Supreme Court rejected even civil liability for distributing illegally intercepted cellphone calls, and expressly refused to distinguish the media from others:

Volokh teaches free speech law, religious freedom law, church-state relations law, and a First Amendment Amicus Brief Clinic at the UCLA School of Law.

This is hardly the first time Fredo has said stupid things about the First Amendment.

Cuomo almost broke the Internet with this epic piece of stupid.

“hate speech is excluded from protection. dont just say you love the constitution…read it”

Yes, I have read the Constitution, Fredo. Why don’t you find someone who can read it to you?

In many ways, Cuomo represents so many children of privilege — so many born on home plate who know nothing of struggle, or life in the real world, or an achievement that comes from something other than a last name.

Then we have Mika Brzezinski, Joe Scarborough’s ditsy bleached blonde bed mate, who last week advised against even having a drink with a co-worker of the opposite sex.

Brzezinski then appeared to argue that the media’s job is to control what people think, adding that the president is interfering with it.

“And it could be that while unemployment and the economy worsens, he determined the messaging so much that he can actually control exactly what people think. And that, that is our job,” she said.

Hopefully, for Joe’s sake, Mika is better on her back than she is on her feet.

The public – at least those who are paying attention – have good reason to distrust the media and view CNN as “fake news.” They see White House correspondent Jim Acosta acting like a three year old who has had too much sugar and is throwing a tantrum. There are constant attacks on President Trump and any conservative. They see Stelter and others with stacked panels with four Democrats and a never-Trumper like SE Cupp supposedly representing conservatives. There are stooge guests like Jennifer Rubin or Ana Navarro representing Republicans/Conservatives. Navarro can speak with authority about about Hispanic women and every “all you can eat” buffet in the Beltway, but little else.

The public has started to learn that – ever since Watergate – the media sees its role as controlling the flow of information to the public rather than informing it.

While the media tries to deny it, bloggers like Conservative Treehouse, Gateway Pundit, SpartaReport, NewsBusters and even BJG have the same rights as the “Missing Link,” Fredo and “Babbling Brooke” Baldwin.

JR, Jim Hoft and the boys at SpartaReport are the new Thomas Paines. Learn to live with it Fredo!

Hat tips: Breitbart, Washington Free Beacon, CNN, Business Insider.

Think what Thomas Paine could have done with the Internet.

“Freedom of speech is granted to all Americans, not just elitists and the media.”

Nothing is granted to American free speech, they/we already have it. The First is a prohibition against the government. We have gotten so used to saying ‘mother may I’ that we tend to forget that certain Inalienable Rights are only granted by the Almighty.

Charlie Rose and now Matt Lauer…I love it. My Christmas wish is that Keith Olbermann is next (amid swirling speculation that allegations are about to break and he saw it coming), followed by Scott Pelley, John Harwood, Jon Stewart, Chris Matthews, Bill Maher, and a several others.

And I have a strong hunch that David Letterman was operating near the Harvey Weinstein level, but left the biz before the shitstorm, thus might have sidestepped it.

Watch the video of Matt Lauer interviewing Corey Feldman. He’s very aggressive, very combative, and comes across as highly defensive. Watch his body language…like he’s covering for someone. Barbara Walters did the same thing to Feldman. Basically slapping him down.

In case the Ministry of Truth is around.

I am confused and need enlightenment. During the glorious days of the Chosen one, Obama, the numbers were always revised down.
Now as we near the end of civilization in the Trump age of deplorables the numbers are always revised upward.
Does this still mean down is up and up is down? Are we still at war with Eurasia?
    Please help.

    Yours truly,

    How conservatism won out:

Liberal Charge: You are a Raaaaccist!
Conservative: [shrugs shoulder] I hire best irrespective of skin color.
    Feminist Charge: You fondled me!
Liberal: Oh hell, you and the 8 other women must be right. I tender my resignation.
Conservative: Don’t mind if I do. That job looks pretty cushy from what I am now.

Liberals rinse and repeat, raising the ante each cycle till just breathing hard is considered sexual battery. They end up running Starbucks all across the country. They sire no children for fear of sexual retribution. Political, academic and economic opportunities drift to conservatives as the only man/woman standing.

    “I have a dream….” Its a good one too.
