Millennials Making Their Move

Liberals have for at least a decade hung their hope of a urban revival on the Millennial Generation. For a while there it looked to be true. But once the Rug Rats appear its that ole siren song of the suburbs yet again …

To see which cities have reached “peak millennial” — a term Myers coined —we analyzed a decade of Census data through 2016. We found that while tech hubs like San Francisco and Seattle are still drawing young people, large East Coast cities, like New York and D.C., are fast approaching peak millennial, with plateauing populations of those born between 1980 and 1996. And then there are cities like Boston, which already appear to have reached their peak. Boston lost roughly 7,000 millennials in 2016, after a record high of 259,000 the previous year.

“They’re doing what every generation does — they get married, start a family and think about having a backyard and looking at school systems,” says Jim Rooney, president of the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce. “I think that’s a pattern that we expect to experience, and to some to degrees are beginning to experience.”

In a survey earlier this year, Rooney found millennials are hopeful about Boston’s economic future, but less hopeful about their ability to participate in it. Why? “The cost of housing — they didn’t think they would be able to deal with buying a home,” he says. Zillow estimates the median home in Boston costs $561,000, and home prices are growing at more than double the rate of hourly wages.

I have had a particular interest in the small farm movement and have noticed an uptick of late in articles and videos on that topic. What characterizes those that adopt that ‘lifestyle’?

* Married couple
* Late 20’s to mid-30’s
* Young kids usually less than 10yo
* Sold previous residence to move out to the exurbs
* Majority are white

Good thing. The average age of the typical farmer is 63! By the way, rainbow swiss chard this time of year goes for ~$8/lb. That’s more than strip steak at the market.

Back on topic. This shift back to the ‘burbs dooms most of the major metro areas. There will be no revival or it will stillborn before it can gain traction. Couple that with the DinDuNuffins encroaching with drugs in the gentrified sections and the flight will increase.

Bottom line — More urban areas will start looking like Chicago.

    Small farms were supposed to be dying or a thing of the past. Here is an example of why they are not any longer — https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=adW3GCQGHug

    if I was a younger man I would indeed start a small farm/ranch. We live in the mountains, with a growing “season” measured in weeks, but just down the road (about 2000 feet lower) is some good grazing and farming land.

    p.s. I found out what the MOST expensive liquid sold at Costco is the other day. My wife bought a bottle of VANILLA!!! 16 ounces cost $27. That’s more than single-malt Scotch!!! Where can ya grow vanilla beans??

    We have a challenge in reaching millennials because the left has controlled the “three megaphones” (education, the media and Hollywood) for more than 50 years.

    A pretty good article on what a new Civil War might entail.

    The author leaves out a huge issue, IMHO: our enemies (though he thinks our nuclear arsenal would remain a deterrent…which I do not)

    Yep. I was thinking of making real vanilla extract for the troops at work. That ended when I found out that 4 beans per bottle would be nearly $14 + vodka!

    For about half of them the marketplace is teaching them a rough lesson. Many, if you believe the article, are bailing because they can’t support the high cost of living in the urban cores.

    Assuming a hot civil war did break out the option I have always considered is who controls the Mississippi River? Whomever does controls 2/3rds of the land mass as least as far as resources go.

    #3 – Why do you think the left is so hellbent on free college for all? Basically, it allows them to complete the indoctrination and lock it in during the formative years of 18 to 22 when young adults are beginning to form their political ideology. And the kicker is they want taxpayers to cover the cost!

    Anyone else find it odd that there are only 3 photos on the internet of one of the most talked about people over the past 60 days, one Peter Strzok?

    And take a close look at those 3 pictures (links below). Am I the only one who thinks that while dudes #2 and #3 are the same person, dude #1 is a completely different dude? Am I going crazy here?

    Speaking of stupid, Rosie O’Donnell offered $2mm cash to both Susan Collins and Jeff Flake to change their votes on tax reform. That’s bad enough, but she did it on Twitter for the entire world to see. And then as many other tweeters pointed out to her that she had just committed a felony, she has boldly refused to remove the tweet. She even followed up with an “I’m not joking.” tweet, which took away her ability to use “I was joking.” as a defense. Brilliant move there tubby.

    KH – There are two distinct schools of thought on Jeff Sessions, and good conservatives can disagree.

    You and many others see Sessions as weak, and you are justifiably frustrated and discouraged by what appears to be feckless inaction.

    Others, myself included, have a very high degree of confidence in Sessions, and believe that he’s actively working diligently with Trump behind the scenes to take down the deep state.

    One theory getting increasing traction is that Team Trump has uncovered massive and unprecedented levels of corruption that could reach as many as 70% of our elected officials and cuts across both parties. They are tackling the lowest level offenders and minor players by either offering them deals to just walk away, or in some cases they are facilitating the release of damaging info of a sexual nature. They are getting flippers in the intel community right and left as the net tightens and their layers of protection are ripped away. Bigger fish are coming, but that takes time. These folks were talking about Franken going down in flames a full 2 weeks before the first revelations hit. That’s when they got my attention. These same people are saying that Chuck Schumer will be the next domino to fall, and soon. If that happens (and please GOD, let it happen), then it’s all legit as far as I’m concerned.

    I know the Mueller thing looks grim on the surface, but maybe it’s supposed to look that way. Personally, I think Trump is outsmarting them all, and he’s loving every minute of it. Does he look even remotely concerned to you? I keep seeing the Cheshire Cat grin.

    Winning!!!!

    https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2017/dec/20/donald-trump-threat-cut-aid-un-jerusalem-vote

    See this in the American press? Almost as good as the Tax Reformed just passed.

    Donald Trump has threatened to withhold “billions” of dollars of US aid from countries which vote in favour of a United Nations resolution rejecting the US president’s recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

    His comments came after the US ambassador to the UN, Nikki Haley, wrote to about 180 of 193 member states warning that she will be “taking names” of countries that vote for a general assembly resolution on Thursday critical of the announcement which overturned decades of US foreign policy.

    Speaking at a cabinet meeting on Wednesday, Trump amplified Haley’s threat.

    “Let them vote against us,” he said.

    “We’ll save a lot. We don’t care. But this isn’t like it used to be where they could vote against you and then you pay them hundreds of millions of dollars,” he said. “We’re not going to be taken advantage of any longer.”

    28 – Jboz if I see Chucky get taken out (such that he has to resign) in the next couple months I re-consider, but short of that thus far I see plenty of prior and still active corruption go unpunished, and in most cases continue to be rewarded.
    The way chuck runs his mouth lately doesn’t indicate he’s remotely worried about anything – but then again neither was say Franken in October.

    It’s not even big fish that bother me as much turds like low level federal prosecutors and FBI middle management and the like go untouched – it breeds more of them up and down the chains. What I see is Sessions not getting his own house doj\fbi in order, and while that takes time, I’ve seen precious little evidence to suggest it’s begun. Little stuff… like why are State, and DOJ still fighting Judicial Watch so hard on fioa’s related to Obama era shit if part of the plan is to expose as much corruption as possible to aid in firings and retirements or otherwise flushing turds from the system? Makes little sense to me.
    Take McCabe as another example, there was ample evidence prior to the election for this guy to be fired for cause, there was no need to wait, in fact there will be more fan fair around it now than there would have been then. The counter argument might be they wanted him to remain federal emp. for awhile so he has to testify… ok so whyTF are you making that person of all people acting fbi director while wray (who seems to be bushyesque comey clone) sits in the nomination queue. That just seems absurd to me (and I said it at the time), and counter to most of the 12d like theories, should want this idiot cut-off from support\access\decision making, not elevated to acting director for awhile to aid him in his ability to cover-up or have others lie for him. These people are not going to ever truly flip, they’ll clam up, they know they’re not really going to be prosecuted for anything they’ve done, and even if they are they know the jury pool around DC is 9:1 in their favor, with 20 job offers from lefty outlets soon as they beat the wrap.

    This is one of things where I’d love to be wrong, but thus far I’m not buying most of this xDimentional stuff (ie the master plan from even before jan 20th), it’s too much wishful thinking, and lots of moves from last spring that appear counter requires some pretty convoluted explanations (imo).

    Yeah maybe I’m just to much a cynical bastard, but I don’t trust anyone.

    As the question.
    Yes he seems concerned\annoyed about Mueller\rururu to me, particularly in that it’s been stealing headlines (and endless msm focuses) from him for over a year now, this what seems to bother him the most – which isn’t a surprise.

    I will say something about the last year though, and it’s not really gleeful cause I’d rather have wasted far more breath this year talking about nuts and bolts policy and seen more action, but… it’s been a really really entertaining fucking year in politics, so many exposed (GOPe\D\uni\MSM\list goes on), so many “he’ll never really…oh shit he just did”, so many ‘he broke me’s’, so much living rent free in Hilda’s head, …so much winning (even though plenty of Yuge things are outstanding and so much didn’t get done due to #NT cunts one of whom hopefully dies over the holidays).

    30 – damn that ended up longer than intended. lol

    29 – Actually I did see that, and it made me think 2 things. First was “duh! “, and second was “Hopefully these ‘threats’ are finally backed up with actually doing it – not the first time the US has said this about some UN vote only to not really follow through”.

    The updraft effect on the economy will be impossible to ignore…even for the MSM.

    In even a crazy partisan world it should have already been impossible to ignore. lol
    Course we’re well past the crazy phase.

    Here’s the thing, no matter if they continue to ignore it as much as possible or not reality is hitting voters, when my sister in CT is telling me basically “he’s not been as bad as I expected, least the economy is doing well like he said, now if he can just stop the hostile tweeting”, you know the MSM messaging isn’t being successful as they hoped. I tink you all know the basic story with my sis so no need to repeat.

    In the broad points I think your analysis is close to the mark. On the minor point above. Least at corporate the desire of the HR/Legal is

    * Sever their current functions. That prevents further meddling and if anything is in play that requires constant stroking it surfaces like a turd in the bowl.
    * Make them report to HR or security 9-5 till you have pumped them for everything you can.
    * If they quit so much the better.

    Question being, does that play in Govt? If it does, then the fact that Stzyak (sic) was demoted and not fired might be a tell.
